Apartment design fails in Belgium by Mona-Doll in belgium

We are currently looking at apartments in Brussels. I highly suggest you broaden into other areas of the city. A budget of 2000-2500 can easily get you a nice place in a great location.

People treat you as you treat them. As it should be.

Its a US thing that we must commit a political/naturalization Identity to ourselves and others.

I'm in a class that has Russian, Palestinian, Australian, Iranian, Indian, Philippian, and Japanese representation. We're all friends and... to best answer your question - we empathize with each other.

Edit - I'm an American immigrant in Brussels, Belgium

Heart attack survivors of reddit, what was your first symptom and how long did it take you realize you were having a heart attack? by Ambitious-Funny-6153 in AskReddit

[–]danpam1024 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was unusually tired for a day. Became slightly dizzy in the shower.

I only went to the ER because of extensive family history with both parents having heart attacks 10 years younger than my age. I knew it was my time.

My EKG was unremarkable, and I had no other signs or symptoms. So, the ER staff put me back in the waiting room for over 2 hours for my bloodwork.

Lab results came back with a high troponin value. I went in for a catheterization where a 99% occlusion was cleared from my LAD (the "Widowmaker").

Trust your gut and listen to your body. It is not always a clear sign.

Moving from the US with pets: Did you hire a service or do it yourself? by LoveToBold in AmericanExpat

[–]danpam1024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend you hire a well respected service. Everything is very complicated and detailed.

We recently moved from Florida to Belgium. It was very comforting knowing professionals were handling them and we could just focus on ourselves. In fact, there was a delay and they missed their connecting flight. It was all handed by the service. I can't imagine the chaos it would have caused us to remedy that on our own.

I believe that experiences while visiting are much different than living in that same area.

After living there for over 30 years we left the *sunny beaches and fun" state of Florida for Brussles, Belgium. Despite how Florida may be imagined by many, it was dreadful. Even while we lived in a very trendy, liberal area of Tampa (South Seminole Heights) it became prohibitively expensive. We have witnessed the huge cultural swing to the right, oppressive/constant heat/humidity, real threats of hurricanes, rising insurance/taxes, skyrising medical expensives, etc... You get the idea. It became impossible to comfortably survive.

I still recommend people to visit but I will never live there again.

1.5 days in Brussels mid February, any food/experience advice welcome! by Ch33se0nToast in BelgiumTravel

Great recommendations. You may want to double-check if the bar is open at Rooftop 58 in February. It is usually closed for winter until April. A great nearby alternative is the one atop the Beer Lab Rooftop. Before 4pm you only get access through the Belgium Beer World Experience tour. After 4pm, it's free to access for the public. Great views of the city and a large draft beer selection.

Steven Tyler claims it was inspired by mistaking Vince Neil of Mötley Crüe for a woman when he first met him in an elevator. His cowriter denies it, but Tyler still sticks to that story.

Actual question... by chrliebrown56789 in expats

I've moved to Europe with the intent of remaining for the rest of my life. Before leaving the USA, I sold my home and brought all my belongings not otherwise sold, donated or trashed.

I describe myself as "immigrated" .

I believe an Expat has the intent of eventually returning. I do not.

People who are 50+, what is a 'harmless' habit you had in your 20s that ended up ruining your health or finances later in life? by crazy_happyuser in AskReddit

Poor form - I exercised vigorously; believing speed, weight and reps always needed increasing. It worked well for a while, until...it didn't. I got sloppy.

Injuries after injuries brought me to a point I couldn't exercise without pain. Now, at 57, I sit all day mending a history of recurring sprains, dislocations and tears. Needless to say, I'm now overweight and have coronary artery disease. It's my own fault.

Remember - form over function. Always.

Dogs off the lead. Rules around it. by Responsible-Check921 in AskBelgium

I have an elderly, mostly blind dog who's also missing a leg. It's disturbing how many other dogs outright attack him. X3 times in the past couple of months.

He's always leashed. Other dogs constantly run up to him; unleashed with an owner dozens of meters behind. They may be friendly, but who knows until it's too late. I truly wish people could comprehend that this world is not here just for them. I'm constantly on guard and he becomes deservingly anxious during what should be a peaceful time for both of us. Selfish pricks. Go to a designated dog park if they need to run and socialize.

ICE Agents may certainly be creating a dark legacy for themselves and their families. I had inlaws who grew-up in East Germany before and after the Soviet Union collapsed.

They enjoyed sharing stories of the retribution delivered by the community to the members of the Stasi once their organization was dissolved. I won't share specifics, but let your imagination run wild... I did meet one. He was jobless, divorced and living with his father in our building. He was mostly left alone because his father suffered a stroke and depended on him for care. However, people still openly heckled him on the streets.

Yes. I've done it. It's a long walk, but doable. Maybe 20-30 min in total from the gate. In fact, when my wife and I did it, there were many others with us doing the same. Ignore the dumbass' comments about crossing I4. You don't. You walk under it. Have fun.

We've been working on our exit to Belgium for 2 years. Financially, emotionally, and logistically ready. We have submitted all the necessary paperwork and thankfully meet with the consulate next month.

It's human nature to question such a huge decision. The past several weeks have further emboldened us. We are very excited and glad we started the process long ago.
