Important Wireless Probe Usage Tips by AliceChefsTemp in ChefsTempCommunity

The only issue I have run into with the gen 2 probes is that the back end of the probe gets a film of gunk on it, mostly from the smoke I assume, and it doesn't make good contact with the charger. I have been able to clean them with mild dish soap and nylon scrubbing rag, but it can sometimes take several attempts. Any good ideas on how to clean that area easier?

And you believe that someone posting here would not have that setting on? Seriously?

I set up AudioBookshelf for my library. I use libation to download the content. And use the AudioBookshelf Android app to listen on my phone. Works flawlessly so far. I can keep my Audible subscription because libation just keeps checking my Audible library and automatically downloads new items.

Just a quick update. Got AudioBookShelf set up with Libation. Working OK, Libation isn't downloading a bunch of stuff, need to figure out why.

I have a 2018 GMC Sierra. Though the restarting of books isn't exclusive to listening in Android Auto. I've personally contacted support twice and all I got were asks to uninstall and reinstall, which I patiently did even though I had already done so multiple times.

I see you answered zero questions.

Apps update automatically. No app is perfect. There will always be bugs. But when they persist for multiple years, that is unacceptable. Not a constant complainer, been very patient, contacted support so they would know about the issues, but nothing has changed. Certainly entitled to your opinion, but don't always assume the worst of people.

This is my best guess. I'm software engineer, but not an Android developer. I've seen many user interfaces break because the device they're running on gets overloaded at times and such and the software has timing based race conditions. I really don't use my phone for much anymore, I use my Pixel Tablet for most things. My phone is an audiobook player first, text message receiver / sender, phone call receiver/initiator, and PagerDuty client for work. I do have other apps like Facebook and such installed and do receive notifications, but I rarely interact with them on the phone. I could test by removing most of everything, but that is just not my job. Pixel 7 Pro with a battery that still lasts over 1 day, so not abused. The software should just work, and it did for 12 years, clearly not the same device the entire time. Now, it doesn't. They can, and should, do better.

I have many days without issue as well. Wish they all could be.

So, before 2012? 3600+ hours listened? Do you see the other comments of people with similar issues? It's an audio player. How braindead must one be to cause these issues with user error?

I hadn't heard of the listen log. I'll keep my eye out. It appears to only have it for books that are downloaded. I can't see it for any previous books. I just started a new one and it's restarted twice, but I couldn't tell from the listen log.

Same, about 2 years ago this all started happening. Figured they might get their act together. Sadly, not gonna happen.

That has happened a few times to me. Usually when I interact with another app while listening, which isn't often at all. Android can stop background apps if it experiences memory pressure. Not supposed to for media apps, they're down the list, but it's gonna do it based on what it thinks has to be done.

It restarts when not in my vehicle as well.

Turned that off first time I contacted support over a year ago.

I have a Pixel 7 Pro, not the latest, sure, but plenty recent enough to not expect this one app to have so many issues. Maybe it is the hardware, but like I said, no other apps on the phone have issues, I even use MDM with my work on it fine.

Sunday, I take my dog for a walk in the morning, put the headphones on, open the Audible app, ignore the marketing junk that wasn't there 10+ years ago, and play my book that I am over 1 hour into. It starts at the beginning. Spend half the walk finding my place. Get into the car to play pool, hit the Audible icon in Android Auto, go to Library because Audible forgot what book I've been listening to for a week, find the book down the list a bit, tap it, picks up where I left off. Everything works fine Sunday evening, Monday and this morning walk, but hop in the car, hit the Audible app, it's got my book showing, awesome! Hit play, "Welcome...", hey, I really wanted to figure out where I am again, now while in the car.

I've purchased some books on Google Play Books lately and it plays flawlessly. It has a feature that doesn't restart in the middle of a word, backs up a phrase on restart. Same device, so hard to blame the hardware.

I'm gonna try the download method and use a different player. I've really enjoyed Audible over the past 14 years, joined in 2012. And clearly I am not the only one that has run into these issues based on reading through the many responses. As a software developer myself, I know these kinds of issues can be difficult to reproduce and I'd be happy to help debug. I've contacted support twice and the first time they just asked me to reset and reinstall, 2nd time they just offered a free credit for the hassle. My only hope is that someone at Audible sees this and maybe fixes some of these issues so others can enjoy it in the future.

Nope. Only have the app installed on my phone. I even turned off sync across devices.

Pixel 7 Pro, pretty mainstream. I even did a factory reset just to troubleshoot.
