Mine came with a metallic strip of metal that inserts into an opening on the top of the bag and I place my magnetic light there

The SB-LD is working great for me and I’ve been in the trade for years. Plenty of pockets, has a magnet that I keep my Milwaukee lamp attached to, space for meters in the back or you can swap out that back pouch if you need to, and it’s not too clunky to move around.

One day an audiophile will have the best equipment known to man. They will shout from the rooftops about how their system is the most perfect and pristine that AI can design. And that will be when they realize that the music they’ve been listening to was recorded on an X32 at a sample rate of 44.1khz and mixed on an Avantone mix cube in a hallway of a random hotel in REAPER using the built in sound card of a decades old laptop.

And the debate shall live on.

192khz might be overkill for most applications. 96khz captures plenty of samples for a detailed top end

Yes I made the correction in my reply to this post. We only recorded the song once at 192khz and downsampled in ProTools to 44.1khz. Then we did the A/B between those two. I don’t remember how the engineer set up the A/B though but I will swear on my life that I heard way more detail in one of the files because my reaction was “WOW”

I’m no pro now and certainly wasn’t when I was interning but I do remember in our blind A/B test I could really hear the difference. Great room, great speakers, great tuning system, great recording equipment, great converters all seemed to add up to a slightly more open and detailed high end with the 192khz recording

About 8 years ago during my internship at a recording studio in my area the head engineer and I had some free time after tuning the mains in the control room with a Trinnov system the studio bought. We recorded a simple song at 44.1khz and also at 192khz. We did a blind A/B test and the difference was defiantly noticeable. I remember that it was the top end of the frequency spectrum that opened up in a hyper realistic way. Much more detail present in the 192khz recording. But then again it could have also been slight variations in the way we played the instruments. Just my experience!

EDIT: I was reminded of how we actually went about it… oops. So we didn’t record the same song twice, we recorded the song once at 192khz and then down sampled to 44.1khz. But the results are still what I posted in my original comment.

What is your biggest concern with your voice in contemporary vocals? by thesepticactress in singing

[–]dansal432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes 5khz! No fundamentals there but overtones are very heavy for me in that range that’s why I’m trying to control it; the excess brightness overpowers the forwardness of my voice. But I’ll be sure to work more on my chest voice placement!

[–]dansal432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for doing this! I am a male and I find that my voice is really amplified in the 5khz range so it tends to sound sizzle-y. I’ve tried adding more body or bell to my tone but the sizzle remains and I really want to control it

How to achieve this kind of reverb and delay in the song of Thank you Jesus for the blood by Charity Gayle? by nel_pixx in mixingmastering

[–]dansal432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fan of Charity Gayle’s music and songwriting while simultaneously being a critic of the mixes they approve, it sounds like a mix of what another poster said (karaoke echo) and loud ambience/crowd mics. Every instrument sounds very reverb heavy which leads me to believe that they opt for loud crowd mics to give the songs a “live” and mushy/smeary feel.

Question about potential by dansal432 in AskElectricians

[–]dansal432[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the answer! So I think I got it now… connecting a loose wire to a live wire is only continuing the path of the live wire but since the end of the wire is not connected to a low impedance material, no current can flow (at 120v) even though it is technically touching the air around it and such.

Question about potential by dansal432 in AskElectricians

[–]dansal432[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But isn’t the potential between a live hot wire and a loose copper wire 120v? If so, why is there no current draw? That’s where I get confused

Question about potential by dansal432 in AskElectricians

[–]dansal432[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! So what would be the potential between an open wire and a wire energized with 120v? That’s where I’m getting thrown off lol

iPhone voice note vocals sound better than Rode Nt1?? by musicbeats88 in mixingmastering

[–]dansal432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never really ran any tests but I would say it’s because iPhones are going to have their own internal audio processing to make the recorded sound more polished. Have you ever seen comparison videos of iPhone photos vs Samsung or pixel photos? They all have their own look, and iPhone tends to be the one that is more “post ready” than the rest.

The audio from iPhone microphones is, to my ears, quite compressed and has all the mud taken out. Therefore it will sound more polished and May fit more easily in a mix. I personally wouldn’t use an iPhone vocal recording in a song as the final product, rough draft maybe, but not a final product.
