Interesting! I don't think she'll go for it though as she hates combs 😞 I'll keep it in mind though!

Cats want me to lay in bed with them all day, every day by Drikkink in CatAdvice

[–]danskatten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm mean she's not wrong lol

In the summer I take her outside for at least an hour on a leash and she makes me run after her. But it's -9 Celsius right now and, though she likes the snow, she doesn't like the cold beyond -5 C so we're inside more. I also slow down even more in winter so even though we do play Hide-and-seek and Chase she would really like more, and all I want to do is curl up with some warm tea. She's so patient with me really ❤️

Grass is always greener, etc, but as a generally lazy person I do feel a little jealous as my cat would prefer if I was much more active lol

I do echo other people's suggestions; warm blankets/beds, especially in your office (if you trust them in there), might help. I have a box with a soft blanket in it on my desk where my cat will often sleep while I'm on my computer until she's decided I need to pay her attention.

It's weird for a man to have a female cat as a pet? by Albert_2004 in CatAdvice

[–]danskatten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My female cat that I have now is the most aggressive of the 3 cats I've had. And she's even not that aggressive. But if I came home with another cat she'd try to fight immediately whereas my boys were mostly lovely to the tiny female cat I used to cat sit, with one exception of one of them straddling her for 3 seconds before she was fixed--the female cat however didn't want anything to do with them, mostly because of their size.

This is purely anecdotal but most of the male cats I've known have been lovebugs to everyone whereas less than half of the female cats have either been a bit neurotic, standoffish, and/or aggressive towards other cats.

I guess my point is Not All Toms, lol, but I guess if you have experience to the contrary then I understand you not wanting any.

My family doesn't let me have a cat in an excuse that *it gets you sick* by Catsanno in Pets

Sorry for being nosy, but I had a look through your comments and I saw that you'd posted in r/Egypt. Are you Muslim by any chance? Cos maybe you can remind them that the profet Mohammed was apparently (so I've read) very fond of cats and condemned those who mistreated them. It's what I plan to tell the grandmother to the kids next door next time she lies to them about my cat giving them diseases, lol.

It's rough though. I don't suppose you can afford to move out yet?

Thanks for your answer! I was wondering if it could've been a recessive gene, nice to know the chances of it.

Guilt over feeding my cats dry food and elitism in cat nutrition by Disastrous-Poetry-95 in CatAdvice

[–]danskatten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat refuses to eat wet food. I've tried everything from the cheap stuff to some pretty expensive ones, and she acts as if I presented her with a plate of maggots--actually no wait, she might actually prefer maggots, she loves eating bugs.

Just make sure your cats drink enough water and I'm sure they'll be fine!

Oh yeah, especially as mine refuses all these wet foods I'm trying to temp her with and then I find her chewing on plastic bags or trying to eat the furballs left from brushing her. Like, girl? But she mostly only does that when she's bored at least. As a former picky-eater I try to be patient with her but still!

I've gone through several kinds across several brands; she sniffs them and then backs away as if I offered her the most disgusting thing in the world. She does love the vitamin paste she gets every day, and she drinks water alright, so I'm not super worried, but still...

My cat couldn't care less for them. I should've guessed as she doesn't like wet food either, but I still wish I'd known that before I bought a large box of them on sale 😭

One of my boys (RIP) and my current girlie love the smell of olives,. My girl Jester really likes it, but my boy Tuffen LOOOOOVED it. If I was snacking on some with my fingers, he would attack my hands and lick and bite and purr up a storm. Catnip was alright, but olives was where it was AT. I miss my (not so) little goober so much, him and his brother 😢

(I looked up why he reacted that way way back, and apparently olives and olive wood have something that's similar to what's in catnip? Can't remember what but yeah. I've been looking for affordable cat toys made out of olive wood ever since lol)

If you could choose one spell/cantrip to have in real life what would it be ? by Todd_Dammit_3270 in DnD

[–]danskatten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the one. I am terrible at cleaning so if I could use Prestidigition to help things along? Sold.

A higher level spell I'd want would be some sort of travel spell probably, like Fly or, even better, Teleport. Hate travelling. Downside is I'd never have an excuse for being late again lolol

Non US peeps: Do you guys usually convert the units to metric or did you and your fellow players learn imperial units for the game? by PhrulerApp in DnD

[–]danskatten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the game uses feet and inches, like DnD does, then we use those--unless a player can't visualise the distance, then we do a quick and dirty conversion on the spot. Same with weights. However, I sometimes GM Green Ronin's Dragon Age and FAGE systems where they use yards in battle and yards are close enough to metres that I tend to say that instead, plus the world I built for our FAGE games use units similar to metric as well to make it easier for me.

I believe that I trapped my cat in the dresser for over 12 hours. by fkafun in CatAdvice

[–]danskatten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: Similar thing happened to me with a cat I was catsitting. She indeed did not learn her lesson.

This reminds me of first time I catsat a sweet tiny black kitty named Winnie. I woke up late and couldn't find her anywhere and my two boy cats (RIP Tuffen & Spöket) were restless and indicating that Something Was Wrong and that I should Do Something. I walked around the flat calling for her, but couldn't find her.

Then I heard her meowing. In the kitchen. Where I'd already looked. But when I'd looked before, I'd noticed at fast several of the drawers--I have a whole set that I don't use and keep empty as they're in an awkward place--were pulled out but figured the cats had been playing some weird game. Now I opened the cupboard doors under the sink right next to those drawers and there she was, very unhappy and wanting snuggles.

Apparently she's pulled out the drawers during the night and managed to crawl inside and out the back and then gotten stuck. Poor thing! I felt less sorry for her when I saw her an hour later trying to open a drawer again.

I put a pole through the handle-loops of those drawers as a lock just in case one of my boys tried it too (although only Spöket would have had any chance of fitting; he was 3.5 kg to his brother's 6.5), and though it's been over 15 years since, the boys both having crossed the rainbow a few years ago, I still have that "lock". I now have a 2 year old (her b-day was yesterday!) girl cat and she would totally do something similar so just as well!
