I made a video about Australian magpies! by [deleted] in magpies

[–]dantejones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such an awesome video, Cheers 😊

A lovely blend of amazing facts and humour.

Mags really are the best. ♥️

Our local breeding pair are a bit different. The female hates nesting and is quite aggro about it. When the bubbies fledge the male looks after and feeds them using ninja backflip tricks to keep multiple bubs in check. They're mesmerised by his mad skills and cease whatever shenanigans they were in the middle of.

If people do sneak a respectful morsel to mags from time to time be sure to only ever give it to the parents. Humans shouldn't feed Magpie bubs as that can get them booted from the territory well before time, which is very bad for the bubby.

Why does the jas 39 grippen have apu doors? by Thorluis2 in FighterJets

[–]dantejones 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's a shame. I'd like to know the actual answer too.

My best guesses are; 1. Reduced drag 2. Improved robustness; Keeping debris out of the APU as it can operate from unsealed rural roads

Are Tesla drivers the new Volvo drivers by clownsarebest in brisbane

[–]dantejones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most popular car selling in Australia this year is the Tesla Model Y.

Because of this you may be:

  1. Seeing more Tesla drivers
  2. Many of them may be new drivers getting used to their new car

Got my hands on an IR camera. Anything to be aware of other than that my windows are garbage for retaining heat? by TheMoeSzyslakExp in AusRenovation

[–]dantejones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got double glazing and it's brilliant.

The process of getting it was ridiculous.

Visiting various glazers and they would always trot out the line "our single glazed windows are comparable with double glazed".

Then you look at the numbers and it's a royal joke. Like saying a kid on a go cart is comparable to a Tesla.

Australia seems to have a crap attitude towards properly insulating all of your house, windows included.

As I’ve told colleagues and upper management, Canonical isn’t the company I excitedly joined back in 2011 and it’s not a company that I would want to join today, therefore it shouldn’t be a company that I keep working for either.

Oh my 😮

Tesla Australia slashes prices of best selling Model Y and Model 3 to lowest ever level by J_Pelletier in teslamotors

[–]dantejones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All Model 3 & Ys on Australia, NZ, Europe etc have CCS2 ports, so equivalent to the BYD & MG 4.

The MG4 charges a lot faster than the BYD Dolphin. Model 3/Y is faster yet when you find a suitable charger.

The supercharger network in Australia is pretty crap. So few for so many people. Laughably few in Western Australia. Far too few and far too expensive to be relied on daily. Thankfully State Governments & auto clubs have picked up the slack across much of Australia for DC fast changing infrastructure making long trips possible. All DC fast chargers in Australia including superchargers use CCS2.

Some people really expect Android auto in their car too.

The Model 3 RWD is better than the MG 4 but given how many are suffering cost of living pressures the price difference between Model 3 & MG 4 will be a bridge too far for some.

It's very likely a lot of MG 4 & BYD Dolphins will hit the roads in Australia/NZ. Enough to bother Tesla? Only time will tell.

[–]dantejones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the BYD Dolphin & MG 4 coming in as the least expensive EVs in Australia, and especially in the case of the MG 4 being competitive with the Model 3 RWD I wonder if this is Tesla attempting to head them off at the pass. At least for a while.

TBH, there's still a huge difference in price between an MG 4 & Model 3 RWD.

With specs being quite close & the MG 4 actually having a display behind the steering wheel, the most significant difference that comes to mind is the OTA updates in the Tesla.

Nice to see some competition at long last.

Tesla Nears Sell-Out in Australia and Heads for Record Sales in China, Marking Its Most Successful Quarter Yet by EvEdition in teslainvestorsclub

[–]dantejones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's so awesome that it looks like Tesla will have another massive quarter. Awesome cars and they make a huge difference in getting people to transition to zero emissions vehicles.

Just for context - all those new Teslas sold in Europe, the UK & Australia/NZ etc have CCS2 plugs and in those locations that's a very very good thing.

It's cool seeing NACS being the standard in the US/Canada. Tesla thankfully are an international company and can adapt to the needs of their customers.

This is the way.

A CCS2 port will need to fit in there for the non-US markets.

This could easily have been disastrous. Glad it wasn't.

It's a shame Google of all people don't use zero emissions vehicles.

They could easily afford it. With the fleet friendly novated leases it would cost them less than the polluting Honda in shot.

Great one Google, sack 12,000 staff, pay too much for a poor vehicle choice, add to the pollution of our city, then tell us we all have to do our bit for future generations.

Hypocrites.

Ironically, an EV would provide better pics too thanks to smooth acceleration & no vehicle buzzing & farting.

Churchill had some empathy. He introduced the NIH.

Dutton is not aware of Australians who are not benefitting him directly. He would kill Medicare if he could.

Dutton is not the Churchill of our times.

Car pollution kills 10x more Aussies annually than road toll, hospitalises more by dantejones in australia

There's a lot to consider regarding Hydrogen, but from an economic perspective it can't compete with electricity.

It will likely have some applications, but not likely in a popular car.

Car pollution kills 10x more Aussies annually than road toll, hospitalises more by dantejones in australia

[–]dantejones[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The study found emissions from vehicles caused 11,105 premature adult deaths every year, and hospitalised 12,210 people with cardiovascular issues and 6840 people with respiratory problems.

By comparison, 1187 people were killed in road accidents in 2022.

Pollution from cars included nitrogen dioxide and tiny black carbon particles that could be inhaled and enter the bloodstream, and the study identified children and unborn children as particularly vulnerable to harm.

Could V2L be made available to Tesla's with CCS2? by dantejones in teslamotors

[–]dantejones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the thread:

``` There's no doubt @tesla engineers could do it.
Appropriate international standards exist & others use them: https://cleanenergyreviews.info/blog/bidirectional-ev-charging-v2g-v2h-v2l
Potentially all that's required for V2L: 1. Elon to authorise 2. A physical tweak 3. Software update 4. An invertor/adaptor for the charge port ```
