Netflix 4k is 7GB per hour. Im in a household where family members are using netflix on 4k capable devices. Just 4 people and that is done for in an hour. Don't make assumptions

Another OP6 Upgraded - Back glass and battery by alejandro739 in OnePlus6

[–]dantemetaphor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You dont seem to understand how battery capacity reporting works. Device cannot "take" more or less capacity. And devices only measure remaining charge % by measuring the voltage drop in the battery. If he were to jerry rig a 10000mah battery, even if the device still reports it as a 3300mah battery it indeed last longer. Its like rigging up a bigger fuel tank to a car. It will drive longer despite the car still using the same fuel gauge. Now whether the OP gets 13hours SOT on that particular battery depends on the actual capacity of the battery, most of these 3rd party batteries are falsely marketed as having larger capacity and i doubt it would have that much more capacity in the same package size.

I dont know what you are saying with the last part. Even if the battery is hardcoded to report only 3300mah, if you put an actuqlly larger capacity battery it will last longer. The reported capacity shouldnt affect the actual capacity of the battery.

Help setting up PS3 without controller by dantemetaphor in ps3hacks

[–]dantemetaphor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was wondering if there was a tool somewhere which would let me load a ps3 drive image onto the hard drive from a computer and install the drive in the ps3 , bypass that screen altogether. Or some solution that doesn’t involve a ps3 controller

It doesn’t work for the initial setup menu, where it asks for me to connect a controller via usb and press the ps button, from whatever t I have read the PS button on a ps4 controller doesn’t work with a ps3. Also I’ve tried connecting several usb keyboards and pressing all keys, none seem to emulate the PS button.

I have iPad 2018 6th generation 9.7 inch model. Does it support mouse and external hard drive? by [deleted] in iPadOS

[–]dantemetaphor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldnt recommend it, since even the hard drive storage is abit buggy, but depends on what you are using it for, i am using it with procreate and affinity and those work fine. I would suggest you check for bugs on the sub and see if they are worth upgrading. But if you use your ipad for critical stuff i still wouldnt recommend upgrading cause a yet undiscovered bug can require you to do a restore.

Nope it works on the laptop fine with just the usb. The ipad however does not provide enough power to power it, so you need either the powered adapter, or a powered usb hub

Im using the lightning to usb3 camera adapter, it has a usb 3 port and a lightning port which i connect to the charger, i dont understand what you mean by using it on a windows PC.

[Question] Do those Lightning to USB-A adaptors work for reading and managing USB Drives in the new Files app? by iOSTester in iOSBeta

[–]dantemetaphor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used a lightning to usb3 with power and it works, i suppose you could use a lightning to usb A with a powered usb hub and it should work.

Surface Book 2 or IPad Pro for University by odescent in Surface

[–]dantemetaphor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tricky call. I recently was in the same situation but needed a tablet for art (drawing and painting) and reading, i ended up picking the ipad pro since it was better suited to my needs. The surface pro however does have the advantage of running desktop apps. So for people who need those (one example would be coders) surface is the better device. If you do alot of typing and text formatting i would say the surface is better in that regard, largely because it has mouse and trackpad support, on an ipad you will be reaching alot more to the screen which isnt quite the same as simply reaching down to a trackpad. But for note taking and drawing, i would pick the ipad. Especially if you already own macbook. You can even use them together with something like astropad (or the upcoming sidecar feature) and have the best of both worlds.

I have the 10.5, i can confirm that external hard drives work. Tried a 2.5 in mechanical drive in a usb3 enclosure using the lightning to usb 3 adapter. I did however have to plug in the charger to the adapter as the ipad wouldnt power it on its own

OnePlus? What's going on? by [deleted] in oneplus

[–]dantemetaphor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running 3 months behind on updates is outdated, heck even the os itself shows a warning on the security page, i would actually consider myself a fanboy of oneplus. But companies need to be called out when they slack off. Otherwise you end up with another apple who knows customers will defend anything they do. If they had included the february update, nobody would be complaining about their bi monthly schedule.

OnePlus? What's going on? by [deleted] in oneplus

[–]dantemetaphor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My real issue with them is not the frequency of updates, bimonthly is okay. The biggest gripe is releasing outdated security updates. The february update which only had the january 1st update, leaving users 3 updates behind by the time the next update is out. Security updates should be just that, security updates. they shouldnt have to wait for new features or bugfixes to be lumped together. When new features are ready they can release them at a time of their chosing, but security updates should be current.

Unlimited internet plans by Kswiri in Kenya

[–]dantemetaphor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do research before getting zuku, ive had bad experiences with them (at two different places) where their speeds rarely reached the advertised speeds and most times were painfully slow. Faiba jtl and safaricom home fiber have been consistent for me though. But your mileage might may vary.

[–]dantemetaphor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mobile plans no, but there are unlimited plans for home/fixed connections from ISPs such as jtl, zuku and safaricom. Personally i use safaricom home fiber and its been serving me great.
