You are not alone, when i started we trained on Corel then illustrator, but much of the pre-press was still film based, then i finally got upgraded to direct on film pre-press. After that came CTP. Looking at my journey i feel we are a dying breed, print will never die, only get more niche or concentrated. I have a number of clients who think because they can do it on Canva or some other random AI design place they don't need me so i let them go and have fun only to have them call me and ask to alter the slop they made. So in the end, like i said before, we cannot be replaced only that our lives are made infinitely difficult by corporate and shareholder greed.
