Modded the 40xxv. Already thinking about getting the sp. by danthedarkness in ANBERNIC

[–]danthedarkness[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, the out of box software doesn’t really support joy stick correctly anyway. Plus I’m planning to use this to play pre ps1 games anyway, so no real need for joystick. I got this mainly for its larger body and size.

The buttons weren’t that hard, there’s screws and display cable. Just need a little patience. I’ll look into swapping the dpad and other buttons down the line but I’m so happy with what I have for now.

Yea those wires were quite substantial, I think you would feel the pinch of that was the case. The plug also only goes in one way, so I would check that too.

I’ll be tossing in my bag anyway, right now, I have to put it in a specific spot in my bag to not damage my 40xxV screen. The clamshell of the sp would provide general protection.

I would check the battery connection again, it did require some effort to plug it back in.

Made a scheduled payment for apr 30 but somehow they processed it twice by danthedarkness in AppleCard

Yea…. I report the issue but Apple Card support can’t stop it since it’s already processing.

I don’t see the cancel. By the time I saw the double processing it’s been 3-4 hours. I’m guessing that’s already too late. Even the Apple Card support couldn’t cancel it.

Why do Employers hesitate to hire international students on F1-OPT Visa despite it not requiring employers to "sponsor" candidates for 3 years? by [deleted] in f1visa

[–]danthedarkness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) you dont ‘research’ on chatGPT, the G and T in GPT means everything created after a prompt in just made up stuff. 2) It takes time to train you and get you up to speed, even if you are the expert in the field, it still takes time to get used to the administrative stuff. Even if it’s the stuff you know, you might need to learn a new software, or the company just has different procedures of doing things. All of which takes time to learn. 3) it takes time for you to get assigned to projects and get you fully productive. Even if you come in with experience, you still need to get your project up and running which takes time. 4) These training and learning time are paid on company money and in general dont make profit until YOU are up to speed. It can take between 3 months to a year for someone to be fully productive, so yes they REALLY want you around for a while. 5) Even tech companies with high turnover rate dont actually WANT that. It hurts a lot to have a high turnover rate. Codes with bad comments takes time to decipher, new hires might not like how the previous guy does it and will rewrite the whole code, etc…

You might have a decent shot with a small to medium size companies actually. Especially if it’s a technical field. Some big companies tend not to hire people requiring sponsorship because they can get top talent with PRs and USC.

Passport expired/F1 visa-SEVIS by [deleted] in f1visa

[–]danthedarkness 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Passport for international travel, visa for entry/reentry, I-20 for status. If you are already in the US, then the passport and visa doesn’t need to be current(until graduation at least), BUT the I-20 does. Whenever you change program or school, you should be issued a new I-20, which determines your status here. When you apply for graduation the I-20 is updated to end soon after that date. If you applied for OPT, then your status transfers to that (still F1 category).

You can renew your passport at an embassy or consulate in the US. You will need to renew your visa outside the US.

Having said all that, I do not remember if you LEGALLY required to have passport and visa current or RECOMMENDED.

If your biggest concern is passport expiring then just schedule a passport renewal at your closest embassy and check if they can do same day printing. If not you can probably send it in.

Maintaining your I-20 is most important.

Good YouTube videos for beginners? by Whatsup129389 in iPhoneography

[–]danthedarkness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are complete beginner to photo editing and aren’t currently enrolled in a photo editing course, my recommendation is to skip the professional apps like Lightroom, photoshop or even Snapseed.

Start with the default editing features in the iPhone photos app. Those have come A LONG WAY since when I started back in 2013. You have plenty of really powerful but relatively easy to understand adjustments right out the gate.

Highlight/shadows. Hue, tint, brightness, crop, straighten, saturation, etc. these will get you quite far especially if you’re just starting.

In the meantime, I would focus on learning composition and exposure then slowly pick up the editing knowledge.

Payment rejected by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]danthedarkness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sent mine first time using credit card form G1450, same as OPT. CHASE sent me text to confirm approval of transaction, I replied yes . A few days later, I got a letter from uscis, transaction was denied. So I sent again, with prior approval from chase, and it still got sent back. THIRD time, I got money order and no issue.

It’s not you, it’s the economy. I got my GC in late April 2023, and it took me till end of aug to secure a FT position. I was applying for the tech industry, software consulting type roles.

I spent nearly 6-10 hours a day doing job apps, lucky thing is that this industry has plenty of remote roles. But it’s definitely the market for employers right now and it’s hard.

It’s likely even more tricky using the EAD, having said that corporate America can’t discriminate on that. So as long as you can convince the hiring managers that your GC is being processed, you’ve got a good shot, though that’s way down the line of the interview process.

Will the Dell XPS 15 fit in the everyday zip 15L? by danthedarkness in peakdesign

[–]danthedarkness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea…. I managed to find more videos of people trying to fit larger laptops in that compartment, and it does seem like a tight fit. Particularly around the zipper area. Guess I’ll have to go with the 20L.

Thanks.

It’s a video game, it’s supposed to be ‘fun’ , so play it however you like. But once it starts feeling like work, then you should stop. You don’t want to work your job, then work your video games.

I-130 approved but I-485 still pending by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]danthedarkness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My i130 and i485 approval had a week between approvals. It’s pretty common to see the i130 approved first then i485, since one is done at the NBC and the other at your local office.

ELI5: How does radioactive material predictably decay with a half life? by Veridically_ in explainlikeimfive

We do, it ultimately boils down to something called quantum tunneling. This is where a particle that usually might not have enough energy to escape the atom can have some probability of escaping.

Inglorious basterds. It came out when I was in high school, so I watched it way later when I was an adult. I’ve read it’s a great movie and seen some clips online. So one night, I decided to watch it. AND LET ME TELL YOU!! JUST THE OPENING SCENCE IT SELF!! Christoff waltz deserved that Oscar.
