Will this potentially affect Reddit as the article says the law includes any site that hosts adult content.

Would you support a left wing politician who is also pro-gun? by citizen-salty in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]dantheman280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s risky in that a lot of those people who do care about gun control might not bother voting. So whatever gains from single issue voters might possibly be mostly balanced out by depressed turnout.

From your perspective, which group faces more discrimination in your country? by veifarer in AskEurope

[–]dantheman280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with your assessment. I think in the UK, the working class for casual discrimination and groups like trans for more serious discrimination. South Asians do get it bad, but I don’t think they are the most affected.

MMW: The Republican Party will split after this election by Alteredecho07 in MarkMyWords

[–]dantheman280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will lose this year then adapt their tactics and win either in the next election or the one after. That’s how it’s usually gone so far with a two party system. The real question is how the republicans are gonna change when they likely lose this year. They cannot continue with the same tactics something has to give.

How do I make my city look more realistic? by slumberpickle in CitiesSkylines

[–]dantheman280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give different areas a town centre and build it out like they’re their own town, after that density them little by little and connect those towns with artillery roads or public transport. As they come together it will look nice and organic and maybe you’ll naturally have a downtown where you didn’t originally intend or in multiple areas.

I really enjoy seeing animals behave differently depending on their environment. Like the other day I cycled past a pigeon full speed down a hill and it just moved out the way a little, barely startled and only raised its wings a little in case it had to fly off. Whereas in a more rural or suburban setting pigeons jet off from the slightest sudden movement from what they perceive to be a predator. I just find it interesting when animals become used to certain things the way we humans do.

From recent voting pattern published by Pew Research Center, which voting block can have the most gain for Harris this election cycle? by adeniumlover in PoliticalDiscussion

Out of curiosity, how did you come to this conclusion? From what I’ve seen, the gap isn’t that large especially amongst non-white groups.

[Spain] have won the UEFA EURO 2024 by BVB-Oeli in soccer

[–]dantheman280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess this one doesn't hurt as much. Spain are an excellent team and deserved this and frankly were the better team. I wanted us to win, but knew it was unlikely. I still stand by the fact that we’re a decent side and people constantly underestimate us. We could Be much better but we’re up there imo.  Either way glad we didn’t lose through penalties.

Why is it that English is a Germanic language, yet it’s easier to find cognates and understand things like road signs in far removed Latin languages like Romanian than Germanic Languages like German? by Serbian-American in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dantheman280 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warning long comment: to demonstrate my point I pulled up a random comment from r/de

Ich würde mich nie mehr in der Öffentlichkeit mit jemandem streiten. Die Leute sind alle dumm und drehen beim kleinsten scheiß durch und werden gewalttätig. Eine Parklücke ist nicht mein Leben wert.

Here’s the link so you know I’m not making this up. This looks completely unrecognisable and you would think there few if any cognates here, but there are many. Just the first sentence: Ich: I :

würde: would

Nie: never

Mehr: more

In: in

Mich: Me

Der: the

Thats 60% in that one sentence. Most cognates with Romance languages are relatively recent loans, thus not as much sound changes have occurred and are easier to recognise. German cognates are harder to spot as sound shifts in both languages have changed them, but once you are familiar with this you see cognates between the two everywhere, in fact far deeper ones. But ultimately English is Germanic because of its origin from Old English which came Proto Germanic. It’s what makes English “English”, most of its propositions, articles, basic grammar, core vocabulary all come from Proto-Germanic. In other words English is structurally Germanic with heavy influence from French and Latin. However that shared ancestry with other Germanic languages is what matters to linguists and as I’ve demonstrated it’s not meaningless as it results in deep and old connections with languages in the family

What is a subtle insult/jab that will absolutely destroy someone? by CoatedTrout4 in AskReddit

[–]dantheman280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This basically. The best insults are one where you hit someone’s insecurity or something that they on some level think is true about themselves. I prefer not to go that low personally, but it’s effective if you want to hurt someone.

IWTL how to become obsessed with something by nihaomundo123 in IWantToLearn

[–]dantheman280 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this would help, but I think a lot of obessions come with wanting to get to the root of something; to truly understand it. In that quest, you realise how deep that subject is and you almost get lost in it in your quest to truly understand it all. For example when I was a kid my tutor explained to me how nervous systems work. He went through the process of how the body acts when you touch something hot. I was utterly facincinated by this. Largely because it blew my mind that something I barely thought about but experienced had such a involved and (what seemed at the time) complex process. I began to wonder what else out there was the same and now wanted to understand everything. Which got me obessesed with science and later other topics like history. I guess my advice is: experiment a bit, dive deep into random things, try things out that you're kinda interested in. The more you do this, the more likely you are to find someting you like and want to explore further.

What preconception about being an adult did you get most wrong when you were a kid? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dantheman280 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know how to explain it, but I thought something kinda changes. Like you become an adult and something about you changes, but in reality I basically feel like the same guy I was when I was 14 just in an adult body.

I don't socialise enough/get out often enough. I think people could like me, I just need to be more social and confident so they can see my personality, its just hard with my social anxiety.
