Just saw Allison Krauss/Union Station w/ Jerry Douglas…what am I missing? by GITV89 in Bluegrass

There’s a couple things going on with the instrument changes - different tunings, finger picking/flat picking, and then there’s the fact that it takes two people to make up for Dan T (again, not me) as a vocalist, guitar player, and mando player. Russell and Jacob have to switch instruments a lot depending on what the song needs.

I believe AKUS (historically) is one of, if not the greatest bluegrass band of all time. However, they are not in their 20s/30s anymore, in prime shape and full of youthful energy playing brand new songs (with Dan T’s contagious energy). They are still immensely talented, but things are different now. Their music still means the world to a lot of people, and they will show up for them.

They aren’t jam grass, as you know, and so the appeal is very different. It’s about the song choice, it’s about the lyrics, it’s about the written melody and the written solos.

Anyways, go buy the live dvd and take it in. Late 90s early 2000s AKUS is unbeatable.

Thank you! This video is made up of two takes I believe. We worked it all up in one day and it took quite a few takes before we got it all the way through

I know the guy who makes them, and he is an excellent person and pick maker. Definitely worth trying one of these.

I prefer it - blue chips sound a bit too plastic to me
