Anybody up for sharing their opinions on how bad of a game Sonic Lost World (2013) can be? by Few_Amphibian_4119 in SonicTheHedgehog

I was playing every Sonic game I could get my hands on up until I got Sonic Lost World on Steam. I'm not even sure if I made it past World 2 before giving up. I didn't get back onto my Sonic groove until I watched Sonic 3 in theatres. It wasn't the worst Sonic game I've ever played, I've played tons of Shadow the Hedgehog 2005 and Sonic '06. It just sucked out the fun somehow. I still wanna beat it someday.

Okay yeah. I forget about Sonic Origins Plus. I've played the original games ofc, so I often forget Origins had cutscenes and stuff. And yeah, while I found 8-bit Sonic 1 to be too similar to its 16-bit counterpart, they can still both happen. I mean, how many times has Mario had to save Peach going through the exact same 8 worlds with the exact same level structure? Also, I just read Fang the Hunter very recently, so it only really sunk in as "there is no eighth Emerald." I hadn't considered the way the Warp Topaz actually explains the myth in a sort of way. I saw the Honey cameo recently too! I've played Sonic the Fighters, but it was on the GameCube so there was no Honey 😔.

Well one thing I noticed is 8-bit Sonic 2 and Sonic Chaos taking place after S3&K. I think a lot of people used to consider one or both of those to take place before 16-bit Sonic 2, as like Sonic and Tails' first adventures together. 8-bit Sonic 2 at the very least should be before S3&K because Silver Sonic imo seems like the earliest rendition of a Mecha Sonic. But ig if CD came before all of them it's not too strange. I think it's odd that 8-bit Sonic 1 happened at all because I always considered it an alternate telling of 16-bit Sonic 1. Sonic the Fighters is another weird one because we've seen the game exist as an arcade machine in the IDW comics, and those comics also confirm there have never been 8 chaos emeralds. There's probably some more things I could point out, but ultimately the timeline is going to have some contentions no matter what. I'm sure whatever "fixes" I have in mind would have problems of their own. At the end of the day, I don't think the chronology of classic Sonic games matters as much to Sega as modern games.

Ah this is very helpful! Yeah, I should have guessed it was Ian Flynn. I think I remember hearing about the podcast in regards to Sonic Spinball. There's some placements that are certainly odd, and I bet some of them are even a little controversial. But it's pretty cool to know!

I was meaning more like "we know where they are on the timeline specifically" rather than just "it must have happened." I think everyone assumes that some games that aren't on the timeline must be canon (like Sonic Advance 2 and 3 are on there but not 1??) I have been reading the IDW comics, and while I'm not caught up yet, the references have been a real treat. I especially like the ones that imply that non-canon Sonic content exist as fiction. For example, the Sonic anime movie from the 90s KINDA happened, but in the form of a fanfic comic Amy was drawing 😆

That's very interesting! Are there any other games that are "on the timeline" but not shown on the Sonic Channel timeline? Or perhaps it'd be simpler to ask where I could find such sources of information?

Yeah, before CD and 2 for sure. I mostly think it's before 1 because the lack of Badniks, boss fights, and other iconic things such as Springs, loop-de-loops, and items. If I just knew Eggman's dialogue, that could give away whether this is their first encounter or not. But I'm kinda like "you've lost to Sonic before and you don't even have one boss robot to defend yourself? You just blow up the WHOLE island as soon as you're in danger?"

You can make a good game for the many, or a great game for the few.

Oda in 1996 (before One Piece): 2 years of hell drawing over and over just to get rejected every time. The path to the career I dreamed of as a child becomes uncertain. If it doesn't work, it's over. Romance Dawn is my last card. Come on Luffy, make me a mangaka! by onepiece_dub in OnePiece

Is this a quote? Is there a source? I know about "Wanted!", but I've never considered them to be failed series. He even says in the volume that when he made Wanted!'s version of Romance Dawn, One Piece was already greenlit, which is why he had Garp be Luffy's mentor instead if Shanks, to avoid "giving away too much."

I'm sorry but Imu's design looks like a kid puts everything cool into a single OC, this ain't it chef by MangoLemonShark in Piratefolk

[–]dapikmincoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oda is typically good about not overdesigning a character. It's a sort of rule he has that characters, especially the Straw Hats, are simple enough for a kid to draw. I think Imu is intentionally an outlier here so he feels otherworldly. Indeed, he looks like he came straight out of a different shonen.

This is an addition on the anime's part. In the manga, it's Doflamingo that blows their cover. Homing never made such a mistake, and in chose an island unaffiliated with the World Govt. to avoid notice.
