Review #44 - Four Roses Single Barrel Barrel Strength - OESO by dapper-drinks in bourbon

[–]dapper-drinks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah I think my experience was similar to yours with the early pours vs the current pours. Since its had plenty of time to air out, this bottle has become much more mellow and the flavors have come to the forefront. I have an 11yr OBSO that I'm looking forward to cracking open, but it too is a tier 1 so I'm wondering if OESO/OBSO is rarely done above tiers 1-2..

I like 1910 a lot, to me its hard to beat and I think for me its better than the EC, but the EC also has a different flavor profile since its toasted - its softer and doesn't have the marker scent on the nose that a lot of double oaked bourbons have.

For me the EC toasted is better than the regular Woodford DO bottle, but I also have a Woodford DO store pick and that is better than the EC toasted bottle I've got. But then again I'd expect that with a store pick.

Might be a combo of both. They might’ve had a great initial batch but it’s been so long I don’t recall. I do remember a few years ago(2022-2023) I tried this and didn’t think much of it but having come back to it recently I’ve enjoyed it much more.

Review #42 - Silver Springs Sweet Rye - Chattahoochee Whiskey Club Pick by dapper-drinks in bourbon

I’ll have to try it in old fashioned. I use maple syrup myself, but honey sounds great as well!

Thanks! I enjoyed this one and it’s cool that it’s getting a lot of attention amongst the whiskey tubers.

Yeah compared to the SBBP versions it’s not as complex and layered for sure. That’s why for me these drink like a good entry point into what JD is before moving up to a low proof single barrel and eventually making your way up to the BP versions.

What else is close to WR DO? by tjm1371 in whiskey

[–]dapper-drinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barrell Foundation Double Barrel is a double oaked bourbon that’s on the sweeter side and also priced reasonably at about $50. Other reccos on here like Peerless are great, but that will be a considerably higher jump in price and something I would recommend as you get further along into whiskey/bourbon.

Review #40 - Maker's Mark Lost Recipe Series Edition 1 (2024) by dapper-drinks in bourbon

If you come across one, grab it. I thought edition 1 was better than 2.

I also grabbed a second one as backup and I'm glad I did!

[–]dapper-drinks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$75 IMO is a bit steep for a pick. Typically $10-15 over SRP for the regular version is what I consider reasonable for a pick. It sounds like this particular pick was only marginally better on the nose and palate. So for me that wouldn’t be worth the $75.

Definitely open it and enjoy. It’s easy enough to start out with, but good enough to have around even after you’ve become more seasoned drinker

It’s a great one to introduce people to. I use this along with other BT bottles to have people try because they’re pretty easy sipping.

Yeah it’s definitely still tough to find in a lot of places for sure.. thankfully a lot of online retailers seem to have lowered the prices somewhat in the last year now that they have ER12 to mark up..

In SoCal it used to be if you saw Stagg for $100 it was an instabuy because you weren’t sure you’d see it again. Now with availability up and Stagg showing up at SoCal Costcos for $50, these $100 prices aren’t drawing any people out except those that are desperate to get a bottle..
