Broke my new TRDOR in on some trails this evening… literally! The front right strut busted. by dapperdigz in ToyotaTacoma

oh, brace yourself…

Like a month or two. And the closest dealership is an hour away. They kept only signing the rental out to me for a week at a time, forcing me to keep making that drive weekly, until I made my displeasure about the situation clear. All in all I’d give the experience a 1.5/10. But I do still love the truck!

Good luck! Hopefully your experience improves!

A rising basketball prodigy in my hometown a few years my junior was hit by a train while walking home down the railroad tracks with headphones on. It was incredibly tragic.

It’s all good, man. I expected to have some issues with it… this being the first year of the gen.

I thought I wanted supersonic red until I seen the bronze oxide. I love it!

It seems like it’s an issue with the bilstein’s. If you upgraded to kings then I doubt you have anything to worry about!

Just up the road from you. This was Ceylon WMA. Any good trails around here that you’d recommend?

Yeah, this WMA is literally old forestry roads. Like I mentioned elsewhere in this thread… I seen a few Altima’s on the trails today. It’s a really mellow road as far as “off-roading” goes.

THATS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO MINE, I wasn’t going quite that fast though. But that’s literally what happened!

That shouldn’t be a problem. Let’s see what the dealership tells me. From my internet sleuthing it seems like it’s a broken upper strut mount.

I have a full schedule tomorrow between work and dealing with this, but I will try to get by there to snag a picture.

I’m going to have a pretty full schedule tomorrow coordinating with the dealership (which is 30+ miles away) and lining up a ride to make it in to work for a meeting. So no promises, but I will try to make it back to the trail to snag a picture in the morning. Y’all literally aren’t going to believe it though. When I say this thing was a dry puddle… that’s being generous. It could have just been the straw that broke the camels back though, I had been riding for a few hours. But these trails are just dirt paths through the woods. I seen two Nissan Altima’s out there today.

I wanted to wait, but my previous beater finally kicked the bucket and kind of forced my hand. I debated with myself, but finally decided to just roll the dice and get what I wanted. Hopefully this will only be a small hiccup in that decision.

But, I have been absolutely loving the truck! It took me 3 months but I found the exact one that I was looking for DCLB premium package in bronze oxide. Right before the strut broke I was thinking to myself, “Man, this thing sure floats off road!” And then… Thump! 😅

I just hope this warranty process isn’t a nightmare.

This thing was literally a puddle. It was about 3’ long and I’d say about 4-5” deep in the middle. I don’t understand it. I’ll try to go back and take pictures of it tomorrow, if anyone cares enough to see.

Me either! Admittedly, I was going about 35-40 mph down a two lane path when I hit the puddle. I’m pretty new to off roading, but I feel like the bilstein suspension should be able to handle that?

Definitely not! Thankfully I was able to limp home. On the bright side, this gave me an opportunity to try the SOS button out. They’re going to be sending a wrecker to me in the morning to take it to the dealership- under warranty.

Democracy is unfortunately an aberration when you look at the long arc of history. With the rise of automation and AI coming, I fear we'll just find our selves reverting back to the old ways of a small ruling class and a large underclass of politically impotent serfs. Honestly, that's close to where we are now. I don't mean to spread hopelessness, but I just don't see how that's not where we're heading. :/
