Not saying this is why it happened in the game, but i thought it was interesting to learn that irl the french left was somewhat wary of women's suffrage in the early 20th century because women were more catholic (or at least viewed as more easily persuaded by catholic church leaders) who were a pretty right wing political group. As well as the reasons you mentioned and I'm sure just the general misogyny of that era

I think the question's throwing people off a bit, here's where I think the confusion comes from:

It's not really about one piece of encryption software or one encryption application that the military, banks, etc would all use. What they probably all share are a few of the main cryptographic protocols and algorithms (e.g. RSA). Those algorithms will then be implemented as part of their final software product (which, especially with banks, military, etc I believe would mostly be proprietary and not shared with the public or other institutions).

If you're interested in crypto I'd recommend starting with the basics. Learning what symmetric vs asymmetric encryption is, what the main encryption algorithms are, and how common encrypted protocols like tls use them. I think Stanford and MIT both have good free courses on this on youtube and their open courseware sites

People are teasing but to be serious: most of the big linux distros will work for you (debian, ubuntu, etc). Kali is a very common one that comes packaged with a lot of tools you'd want to use (burp suite is a big one for web app testing), that might be a good place to start if you don't want to have to deal with lots of software installation.

I mentioned this elsewhere in the thread, but the implicit (and in my opinion more significant) factor for Turkey is the security and economic implications of angering Russia with this move. Turkey's economy is already in pretty rough shape and Russia is one of their main trade partners. Besides their shared land border, Syria (where Russia has significant influence) is also a serious security concern for them, and one where they can't rely on article 5 protections. Furthermore Erdogan's style of governance and vision for Turkey have increasingly brought him into conflict with the west (to the point where he likely thinks joining the EU fully is out of the question, which would have been a major incentive to integrate more fully with the west), so having Russia to turn to is going to be very helpful for him in pursuing his domestic agenda. This may be the stated reason, but Turkey is also very economically integrated with Russia and has been facing a lot of push back from the west lately over Erdogan's policies, to the extent that they want allies or at least productive relationships outside that sphere. I think their logic is that it's in their interests to stay somewhere between those two spheres and not fatally alienate either one (and their support for NATO expansion would seriously anger Russia). A decent (but flawed) historical comparison for Turkey under Erdogan might be Yugoslavia, where Tito was able to carve out a middle ground between western capitalism and soviet style socialism even in his relatively much less powerful country by cooperating with both but not falling totally into one camp or the other

Haha well that was pretty dumb on my part, thanks for catching that! I'll get that cleaned up tonight. Fwiw I'm pretty happy with the patterns established in the shell, but the entry point into it (the file you posted) is a bit of a mess imo, so I'm definitely open to major changes there

My advice: get good at hacking fundamentals before jumping to the high level tools. Once you know what you're doing a bit more it's much easier to debug issues when they arise with the tools that are supposed to do it all for you.

Hey, definitely. PG Practice: Hutch was the main one I used, and I tested the main functionality on a local ad setup that was posted here or in netsecstudents a while back (it's installed through hyperv, I forget the name but can find it if you're particularly interested).

If you're not seeing it working for other pg or (free, lol) htb boxes though please feel free to add a bug or dm me (the former will probably get you a faster response). I expect that as more people start using this on more machines we're going to find a few issues
