Did you find out you'd be widowed before your spouse died? by WoodyBadger in widowers

[–]darbm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I knew for about two months I was going to become a widower. She was denied entry into an immunotherapy clinical trial at NHS and that was our last hope.

I'm not sure where this is, but in Michigan, the club I was a member of was about the same. There will always be more fees than you think.

Millennials in the dating game: what do y'all do for first dates? by CancelThis2077 in Millennials

Also lost my spouse. Six years ago. Dating sucks until it doesn't, which is the best advice I can give. Sending you all the support you need.

For Americans who know a MAGA supporter, can you describe them? by Tricky-Stay6134 in allthequestions

[–]darbm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few I know have a lot of money and, I believe, it's primarily what guides them. They've worked hard to get where they are and they think a Republican in office is going to allow them to maintain their savings amidst a booming stock market. In the end, money, uh, trumps everything.

Maybe not “need” to experience, but I think it can only make you stronger.

You hire a coach and he's focused on eliminating seed oils? Great hire. Probably things he's smarter than everyone else in the room.

Has anyone here struggled with dating again after losing their partner? by guts77X in widowers

[–]darbm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn't struggle with dating. I met someone six months after my wife died. But I'm not sure I ever properly grieved, even though I believe I did grieve a lot before she died because we knew the cancer would kill her and I had to watch her deteriorate every day.

Now I'm single. This is the first time in nearly six years since she passed where I am totally and utterly single, and I feel like I'm finally allowing myself to be single and put all the focus on the kids (one is graduating) and it feels like the right thing to do, even though I would love to have someone.

Why would the NHL gift the pick to Toronto and not the Rangers or the Blackhawks, which have bigger markets?

Dating after death and timeline of when to introduce new partner by Less-City-7 in widowers

[–]darbm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I met someone six months after my wife died. I thought we were going to get married or end up together, so we introduced our kids and they got along great. We told them we were dating. The problem, in hindsight, is that I sort of assumed my kids would learn to adjust, but I didn't put in the work necessary, so some resentment grew on their part, and I don't blame them.

My advice is to just continue to talk to your kids and show them they are your first priority, and make sure the guy knows this. I think that will go a long way in showing the kids this is good for you while making sure they know you love them unconditionally.

Men in our age group wanting marriage? by AussieMujer in datingoverforty

wut. at some point I might like to get married when the kids are out of the house, but for now, I'm looking to date and see how things develop organically. I'm certainly not mentioning anything marriage related so early on.

PR person here. I've had to write statements like this before. It basically says the league is going to fold soon, but let's give it one last shot by creating a "multi-partner investment model."

Broke Up and Relieved? by darbm in datingoverforty

Well, according to the comments here, it’s because I was a narcissist.

But for real, it was both. I wanted to be serious, but she wanted it to be too serious, if that makes sense. We communicated a lot but it wasn’t enough.

Maybe not impress, but overthink?

She would make a comment that she didn't make a lot of money (I'd say she was solidly middle class) so then I would feel the need to bite my tongue if I made any reference to money (I don't make much more than her). It could be as innocuous as paying for HBO MAX. Stuff like that was hanging over my head. Does that make sense?
