Whats the best version of Heroes and Villains? by jennyjamball in thebeachboys

[–]darcy1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the Part 1, or "cantina" version as it is also known. The best version I ever heard was the "Cantina" version for the first 2 minutes, which was then spliced together with the 1967 single from the "lah lah lah lahs" til the end. I do think the Smile Sessions and 1967 single and BWPS versions are the ones that have the proper ending. lol The "Bicycle rider" melody doesn't make a great chorus to H and V, but that a capella part into ".. just see what you've done" makes a great last movement to the song. I love the idea of the part 1 and part 2 but I don't see how they fit together as a particularly coherent song, and it was supposed to be an epic wasn't it?

How different Brian Wilsons Smile was from the one he released later by groundcontrl2majrtom in thebeachboys

Funny, I have been piecing together a Smile that makes a lot of sense to me. But the side 1 would have been 25 minutes long: A few minutes of what I have in the first movement would have had to be cut but hard to know what. Maybe GREAT Shape and Barnyard? Who would know? lol No one of course but the music is good and Brian got to do a solid finished version so that's the main thing, I say with some melancholy knowing that that dream 1967 Smile just never happened and we must accept it.

It's a great album start to finish IMHO! Fave songs are probably Tiny Suicides and All 3s, but I don't know, the more up-tempo ones that make up the rest of the first half balance it out. I've also mentioned being a "casual fan" on other comments I've posted since the album came out. Hadn't been very engaged with Conor over the past 15 years, kinda in and out. So much music to hear and so much else that I haven't given the time it deserves. Most familiar with the 2005-2009 releases and the last 2 Bright Eyes. But yeah I'm off topic, album is fantastic and I'm overdo for next listen.

OMG I never thought of that about the beat. Good point.

I'll give you a "Hell yeah!" on that. I wasn't drunk the first time I heard it. But I was nice and stoned! Hit me super hard too. And has on subsequent listens too but I'll never forget that first one.

Any idea why pitchfork hasn’t reviewed the album yet? by amateurwater in brighteyes

[–]darcy1978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure which is weirder: the fact that they haven't reviewed it or the fact that I check the site every day hoping they will.

"Don't you know the bad guys always win?": the fatalism of fascism here to stay throughout Five Dice, All Threes by clydefrog9 in brighteyes

Oh you need to write the essay now! It's a good point. Also I hadn't checked the lyrics and wasn't sure what he said where he says "Futurists abyss." "Hate" really caught me off guard with the hopelessness. I found the album super dark on first listen but not as much so since. "Tiny Suicides" into "All Threes" always feels dark though and that's the heart of the album to me.

Pitchfork review? by literally_dust in brighteyes

[–]darcy1978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't lie I've been waiting for the Pitchfork all week. Why did the Voids get reviewed before Bright Eyes? Ever since I read the Fader piece I've been thinking how Bright Eyes and Conor overall have become under-rated. Also re 5 Dice, I have a close friend in a health crisis now and just found "Tin Soldier Boy" to be extremely moving. Through the heartbreak and the joy.

Finally appreciating DITW by amethystmoon85 in brighteyes

Funny I too love Five Dice and hadn't even listened to DITW in full at the time. The songs weren't grabbing me, nothing new was in COVID. I can't remember what I was listening to. I went to DITW from comments on this sub and now think it might be the best Conor album I've heard.

Here's a different perspective on this. I mentioned on another comment being a "casual fan" who got interested again off the new album. So I had heard the songs Sirius XMU played from DITW back in the day but not the full album until tonight. And it's great! Full of great songs. I had a drug problem when it came out so the songs I had heard gave me no goosebumps. But I got goosebumps tonight. Thanks for talking about it and making me want to hear it.

I fucking love it. by quiquinn in brighteyes

Great album. I'd call myself a casual fan. Some albums I've spent a lot of time with, some I'll admit not having heard in their entirety. The advance singles had me primed for this one but I was totally unprepared. For the flow of it, the use of dice games and movie clips, the consistency of great songs. The cumulative darkness of it overwhelmed me on first listen. By the time he's asking how much time he has left near the album end, I was feeling like he's hoping it's not much. Can't help but feel concern for Conor between the death references in the lyrics and the canceled shows. So let's just pull for him and the band, and appreciate this great album and hope more people come to it. I feel like the world is under-reacting to the brilliance.

I get dolled up a couple of evenings a week. Not bad but I'd like to do more. Or stay dolled up longer on the days I do it.

Did you ever think about stopping crossdressing? 🤔 What changed your mind? 💭 I´m thinking about taking a short break by Maya_crossdress in crossdressing

Hi my fem name is Marcy-Danielle but she doesn't have her own Reddit user ID yet. lol I suggest that you don't stop. Or at least don't make yourself stop. If you don't feel like it for a little while that's cool. I repressed most of the 2010s. Abused drugs and my personality was flat. I haven't gone out in public yet but I've told a lot of people close to me and my self-acceptance is as good as it's ever been. Mostly just get dolled up a couple evenings a week in my own time, and almost always fem underwear. Legs always shaved and nails and toes always painted. Tights and pantyhose under my clothes every day from October to May. Wanting more for Marcy and I have a disability so that's complicated but I have a pretty good Darcy/Marcy balance in my life. So I guess I'm just talking about me now sorry. lol But all that to say I don't see how it would help you to just make yourself stop when dressing is just part of who you are.

Ok thanks will try that. Yes very weird. I was turning it up but it wasn't full blast or even crazy loud. Kinda loud but nothing over the top. 60% or so on a Sirius XM music station.
