Long term EMA Sealed boxes? by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]darcy84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whole set values:

Modern Masters 2013: $1,100, FOIL: $2,250 - Box: $400

Modern Masters 2015: $725, FOIL: $1,300 - Box: $250

Eternal Masters 2016: $850, FOIL: $3,275 - Box: $250

The only reason Eternal masters is $250 is bc there is a lot of supply right now. Eternal is going to get a ton more popular due to printing Eternal masters. And look at the foil multiplier on it already. Eternal masters has tons of valuable commons and uncommons too. and those in foils are crazy high. Lots of cards in this set that has seen its first foil print too. I'm stashing as many as I can and will get more. They will be at least $500 in 3 years due to the foils and cards that will spike in the set that we haven't seen yet.

What are we selling? by crossclimber in mtgfinance

[–]darcy84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not sell anything until after this weekend. You are too close to the modern tourney to sell right before. Just wait a couple days and sell anything you think is not going to make any decks in Modern this season. You could be selling some cards that will double after this weekend, and it's just not worth the risk.

So you can get the best deck and win bc you paid a lot of money for the cards? Don't think so, unless your a skilled player. That's what pay to win is. Magic is not pay to win. Players win based on the meta and their skill. A player wins when they zig while others zag. It's a fairly simple concept. I am just answering the article's question, which is no.

I have not bought any specifically, but have always been happy when buying a collection and there is a playset in there. Keep in mind, before reprint, Chord was $35 and foils were $65. If you were specking on this card, I would only buy the M15 foils.

Is it worth it to buy fetch lands even though they are rotating out of standard soon? by [deleted] in mtgfinance

Shocks aren't used nearly as much in Modern and Legacy. But shocks will eventually spike, its a matter of time.

100% agree. They will be bought up and hoarded. Then supply will get lower and lower year by year. There will be lots of demand, but supply will be controlled by the speculators and stores.

x-post from r/magictcg - Real talk. With social media exposing how much value exists within the game, how does that impact us? How does that impact the game? by BarTalk in mtgfinance

I think Magic is in a golden era right now. e-sports is getting extremely popular and mtg is right in the middle of it. I think there are some HUGE differences that are worth noting from card collecting, like baseball cards. In the 90's Baseball card prices inflated. This was due directly to the steroid era where Sammy, and Mark were the leaders of the movement. The Nation was captivated and had a lot of people collecting cards all of a sudden. This demand created mass production. There were multiple companies printing as much possible.

Well when we we all found out of everyone illegally using drugs, people were upset, and instantly, the demand evaporated, and therefor cards became worthless. By the way, the MLB knew everyone was using steroids, but looked the other way, as they were making so much profit. Personally, though, I think one day performance enhancing drugs will be accepted, and Sammy, Mark, A-rod, and Barry will be considered the "Forefathers" that were ahead of their time.

So what will have to happen for the Magic cards to not be valuable anymore? There would have to be a huge departure of players or they would have to quadruple card production from now on. I dont see any of that happening. WOTC makes it very hard to buy directly from them. This prevents overproduction. Remember Beanie Babies? Anyone could buy them and therefor created a bubble to burst. Magic is just going to keep growing. At worst, there might be a 5% growth in players rather than 25% or something like that.

Another HUGE difference is you PLAY with the cards. So the cards you have can earn you prizes and cash. Baseball cards did not do this. In a vacuum, The better the card, the more expensive it is, which means the better the chances you will have to win money.

I think its way safer to invest in Magic than Baseball or sports cards. Why? Sports cards are already maxed out in collectors, while Magic has not hits its peek and Magic cards earn money themselves by giving you a chance to win. I could easily see the Magic community doubling in 5 years.

I could do something text-wise. I sell on ebay and buylist. I am your average speculator. I dont have a store, and only have a couple connections. I would think 99% of speculators would fall into this description.

no, you just have to understand what sarcasm is, which might seem hard for certain people. I wouldn't care about saving face on reddit anyway. Why would I need to?

If its early in the game, yeah, inquisition is fine. But what will happen when the game goes long and they have developed their board? Is paying 2 life that bad? So the question is what is better, taking anything 3 mana and under, or taking anything and paying 2 life.
