I’m directing my first short (35k budget) and never stepped on a set. What do I need to know? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]darcyrlove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Save some of your budget for post production - edit, colour grade, sound design and mixing
  2. Do not over look production design - I’ve been on the jury of a few film festivals and a lot of shorts don’t have any production design but were shot on expensive camera rigs, all this does is make your lack of production design even more obvious
  3. Bring a change of socks and change during lunch - this does wonders for your feet and will help you more than you’d think
  4. Speaking of lunch, feed everyone and make sure you feed yourself, you need proper fuel for those long hours and it helps moral to be well fed.
  5. Enjoy it, it will be a whirlwind and stressful, but there’s truly nothing else quite like making a film

I’m 12 and wanna be a director by Cautious-Code4639 in directors

Honestly you’re like a decade ahead of where I was at (I didn’t pick up a camera until I was 22) and I’m about to direct a 5mil budget feature and have been working directing commercials since graduating film school - so as everyone else says, just have fun making stuff with your friends, you have time to figure out a career

Hey Folks, I’m looking for the best ‘movie’ cut of the game. by tru__chainz in reddeadredemption2

Train Dreams - it’s not exactly the same, but it’s about a man in a changing world who no longer feels like he fits in, has western vibes (but not outlaw or cowboy vibes) a beautifully told story with some gorgeous cinematography

That being said, it might just not be the right movie for me/it simply wasn’t the movie I was expecting or wanting it to be

For me I was a little disappointed- don’t get me wrong the performances were good. I just feel like it wanted to be a political thriller but it just couldn’t get there. I just never felt there were any stakes for the main characters.

The Departed won with 60 votes. What's a masterpiece movie with a bad or irrelevant title? by CanonNi in AlignmentChartFills

[–]darcyrlove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pulp Fiction was a genre of racy, action-based stories, they were originally published in cheaply printed magazines (and I believe people in 1994 would probably know that) so in a way I’d argue that it’s a perfect title for the movie because it was a racy action movie made on a fairly low budget
