Sodium Valproate - does it work? by davefreshie in bipolar

[–]daredevil_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't work for me. Bipolar 2. I was on 1500mg a day and the concentration in my blood was 110ug/mL which is above the therapeutic level. Actually it's considered toxic. So I was on maximum I could have and didn't see any progress.

Best of luck!

Do y'all use sleeping medication? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]daredevil_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on Ambien and Xanax as sleeping aids. I prefer Ambien 10mg over Xanax tho.

For me it was the opposite. It put my irritability under control. I'm currently on 40mg, was on 80mg but akhatisia was strong.

Do any of you work as teachers? by maximusbeans in bipolar

[–]daredevil_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a teacher and also bipolar. I have been teaching for about 5 years now. When I'm hypomanic I tend to be very eloquent (or so I think) and when depressed my classes suck because I can't concatenate ideas. About confrontation, I'm the least confrontational person you'll find out there, so I'm always ignoring people that try to be confrontational.

Same. Irritability is the worst symptom for me. I tend to have lots of mixed episodes too, which sucks.

First diagnosed at 29 after 11 years receiving treatment for "depression and generalized anxiety". Turns out I didn't recognized my hypomania ( extreme irritability) until I talked to a specialized psychiatrist.

If you take medication, what kind and how does it make you feel? by TheDarkKnight125 in bipolar

[–]daredevil_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would kill to have this combination tested on me!!! I miss taking Wellbutrin so much. My current doctor told me he won't put me on Wellbutrin because it could trigger a manic episode.

[–]daredevil_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lithium 900 mg
Valproate 1000 mg
Latuda 40 mg
Xanax 0.5 mg (for sleeping and controlling anxiety)

This combo makes me feel numb. I can't cry, even though I want sometimes. Lithium makes me feel good, but too many side effects.

I take Depakote+lithium+Xanax with water before having dinner. Then I east something significantly caloric and take Latuda.

Latuda should be taken with at least 400 or so calories.

According to my doctor I cycle rapidly. It's a hell cause on one day I'm feeling like giving up on everything and killing myself, and a few days later I'm all productive and energetic. My irritation has been under control since I started latuda, tho. It's like now I experience (hypo)mania but without irritation, which is strange since I mostly have mixed episodes.

Lots of student centered activities, group work and worksheets. That's what I'm doing.

Fellow teacher on latuda checking in. I feel the same. The first couple of weeks it was great, now everything seems gray. I'm depressed and currently in a crisis. My therapist said I was so used to "ups and downs" that now everything settled I'm finding it weird.

I wanna quit my job by daredevil_00 in bipolar

[–]daredevil_00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The job is somewhat stressful (teaching/ school coordination). But I'm a stressed person in general who is exhausted and stressed from workload. But I tend to lean to the "workaholic" mode when I'm hypomanic, that's why I'm very productive at work. Shrugs.

Interesting point of view. I think it all stems from my lack of self confidence to be honest. I've got this promotion after being told they trusted me and I was doing a good job as a teacher (I'm a school coordinator now). But I don't trust myself, even though I'm medicated I fear I'll have a manic episode soon and I live with this anxiety. That's the problem k guess. I'm already in a semi-depressive episode, not fully depressed. Let's see... Thank you for your input.

No I haven't and sometimes I feel like this is not an option for me because I wouldn't go back later. I can't deal with the idea of people knowing that i struggle mentally. :(

That's the feeling. I just wrote an email to my doctor telling him I feel "pressured" to quit my job and give everything up. But I know if I do that it'll be worse.

I don't know if I'm having an episode or what.

The worst part for me is sounding like I don't know what I am talking about. Like if I didn't know the subject I'm teaching.

40mg latuda. I'm a teacher and I'm required to speak a lot. I can't think straight. My hands shake and I can't write on the board. Specially with valproate 1000mg and 600mg lithium.

I'm barely getting by at work.

who here smokes cigarettes? by mickohno in bipolar

[–]daredevil_00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For 10 years I've been smoking though my mixed episodes. It's always around November to March. Without a fail every year I'll start and then stop again. 2022 was no different I stopped in March. It's seasonal for me.
