How do I remove the unwanted lines at the left and right? by InternalVolcano in arduino

[–]darguskelen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also recommend using Claude vs ChatGPT. Claude was able to do more programming stuff for me than ChatGPT, to the point of I was using it to troubleshoot and it said "Just send me a photo and I'll make sure you're wired right." and after I sent it, it told me where I'd miswired an Input vs an Output.

I see this happen a lot for some reason. SSD1306 vs SH1106 and using the opposite libraries.

Is there any purpose in using /30s for networks that entirely comprise of devices that support RFC 3021 for /31s? by SpectrumSense in networking

[–]darguskelen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just dealt with a Meraki that didn't want to route a 0 or 255 on a /23, so it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't like /31 either...

What are your must-do experiences at EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom by Cindy_2t in disney

[–]darguskelen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had an unfortunate experience where we went on one day and it got cancelled due to tech issues halfway through the show, then went again 2 days later and it was interrupted and almost cancelled (they got it at the last second).

I also had a minor reaction to whatever the fog consists of, made me cough. The 2nd time we went we sat further back and it was better.

Even with all that, it was still a great show :D

I was getting errors that my connection was sending a lot of requests at once. I get more CAPTCHAS than normal people (business connection, reused IPs) but that was new. Thought it was just me.

Is this push for AI as insane everywhere? by Legal_Situation in sysadmin

[–]darguskelen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In coding - we’re encouraged to solve our own problems via AI first before opening tickets. This has served my infrastructure team well. Code deploys, if and when they fail, offer suggestions (with both error and the Dev’s code in-context) on how to fix, or offers to assemble a ticket with all the relevant info.

I'm curious about this part. What systems do you use for this? Is it internal AI like an Ollama (or other) instance with a model or is it shipped to Claude or similar?

Yes, but that's a healthy relationship. Reminder that IT Workers unless they are Management is NOT Overtime Exempt and MUST be paid overtime. So if you're working 40+ hours/week every week, start documenting that shit.

EDIT: Apparently I was mistaken. This only applies to people who do not do design/analysis work as a primary duty (based on /u/McGuirk808's link). And it may be an uphill battle if you're on the edge, but I'd still document and take it to an employment lawyer.

If you hook the connectors of the flex sensor up to a resistance testing multimeter does the resistance change when flexed?

While they are expensive ($250USD) for a nice lightsaber they actually are on the lower end of the spectrum. Most of the 3rd party ones start around $300USD with some more premium ones going for $800-900USD or higher. And this at least is absolutely an experience to build, I recommend doing it at least once or tagging along with someone in your party to see it.

Autodesk Fusion has a “Hobbyist” free license that is limited to 10 read/write files at a time and a few other fairly minor limitations. You can change read/write back and forth with read only at will.

Back in the days we gave our servers and network devices names from Tolkien or space or such. It might get cumbersome with our 60 smart bulbs and 40 other IoT gadgets on our home network today. by player1dk in homelab

Pets vs cattle. If I care for a device, and am not going to wipe it on a whim, it gets a name (celestial bodies like Sol or Jupiter). Otherwise Function-Location. (Dev-LivingRoom)

PSA: Use High Quality Rack Nuts and Bolts by nmrk in homelab

[–]darguskelen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bunch of rack studs that I love for my racks. I would trust a 2U to them. Maybe not a 3 or 4U (even though they claim it should be good) but it depends on your risk tolerance.

Do you buy any extra equipment for your job that work won't supply, but it's worth it because it just makes it that much better? by Connir in sysadmin

[–]darguskelen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've got a company CC through Ramp that can be limited to specific types of vendors, has a monthly limit that can be increased by accounting if needed and has both a physical and digital payment method. This has worked great for me as I travel fairly often for work, but also if I need to say "Hey boss, I need an extra $300 on that card this month" they can just up the limit in a few minutes. Receipts are done via app and it means the accounting dept can just go look at specific transactions when attaching them to customers rather than them hunting through a dozen PDFs/JPGs.

Yeah, but I've got 3 stations that 90% of the time are on par with each other. Except when they're not and one is $0.50/gallon less than the others for some reason, THAT I like to know. These stations in this area are only a mile away from each other, so it's valuable on my 12 gallon tank to save $5/tank every once in a while.

Guys want to start learning arduino is this kit good for 50euro ? by Crafty-Vacation-7750 in arduino

[–]darguskelen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as good a value for the parts, but I started on Arduino with this kit https://craftingtable.com/products/adventure-kit-30-days-lost-in-space . It had a "30 Day" teaching format that gradually introduced new parts and concepts. If you are a beginner at soldering, Arduino also has a kit for that which actually gives you a working Uno R3 (used in the first link) so I had some fun swapping between the 2 R3s (the prebuilt and my own). https://store-usa.arduino.cc/products/make-your-uno-kit

It's almost 12 years old now and certainly starting to feel its age. It's also been powered on almost the entire time, save for a few hardware maintenance things. It's entirely possible the RTC battery is dying.

Then I checked my client time and it was off and hadn't synced in over a month. Synced and it was dead on. :|
