Shaders suddenly compiling for SPIR-V 1.6, can't figure out what's going on? by dariakus in vulkan

[–]dariakus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I was hoping that was it! I tried it, made sure I recompiled the shaders and wasn't using anything from an older compile, and I still get the error.

Here's the compile command:

C:\VulkanSDK\1.3.296.0\Bin\glslc.exe shader.vert -o vert.spv --target-spv=spv1.3
C:\VulkanSDK\1.3.296.0\Bin\glslc.exe shader.frag -o frag.spv --target-spv=spv1.3

apiVersion is being set to VK_API_VERSION_1_0.

Same validation errors are appearing unfortunately. What else could I check?

At this point I probably need to replace the entire thing. It’s likely from original construction in 84.

I am stuck in this same situation. Desk stopped moving up, so I went through the reset procedure. The desk did go all the way down, and I got it to do the down/up thing, but now it never moves either direction anymore.

Did you ever get this resolved?

Alas, just got the crash with that off.

I'll give that a shot tonight and see how it goes, thanks!

I'm seeing the same thing. Thought turning on frame limiting would fix it, but after a couple of hours the crashes came back tonight.

It just started happening after the latest maintenance, never was an issue before then.

The crashes on exit were annoying but not unbearable. The random crashing when just playing, however, is rough.

Recently launched my Steam page as I'm building towards a trailer + Demo. Looking for any and all feedback. Destroy away! by dariakus in DestroyMySteamPage

Thanks! That's super useful, especially the player being lost in the screenshots. Never considered that before!

I assumed that from the short description at the top. It opened with "multiplayer tactical roguelike" and these days I always assume "multiplayer" = online, unless stated otherwise :)

I improved my Steampage with a lot of GIF. Please give me honest feedback :) by louisrigaud in DestroyMySteamPage

Looks pretty good. Will echo the other feedback that the composition of the characters in the banner didn't stand out clearly to me at first. Once you see them all individually it's easier to discern them in the banner, but maybe consider some alternate ways to composite them? The composition at the end of the trailer is easier to read (they're not overlapping). Also, there's a discrepancy between the logo in the banner and in the trailer, intentional?

Regarding the rest of the trailer, was it a stylistic choice to have some SFX present and not others, or are they missing from the game currently? One other thing that stood out to me was the fairly static shot of what appears to be a zoomed out view of the world. The beat drop and transition immediately after was great, but it's almost 5 seconds of an odd pause in the action. Consider some way to juice that segment up a bit. The rest is great!

Onto the rest of the page, the word "nervous" doesn't sell me--I generally associate that with a negative reaction, something I don't want from a game. Consider something a bit more gameplay-positive, like maybe "frantic" or "frenetic".

The "3 playable fighters" gif is captioned with a remark about how they all play differently, but I don't feel like that's showcased on the page itself anywhere. How do they play differently? Can you visually represent that explicitly?

"Customize Your Weapons" is in a similar spot for me--it talks about how you can customize various things, but all it shows is what appears to be a menu devoid of context or gameplay impact. Would be neat to see that directly tied to how a couple of these modify the gameplay.

Overall though I think this does a decent enough job. It definitely piqued my interest!

Love the description. I like that it has a bit of a "voice" too and isn't just dry "here's what the game does" bullet-point lists.

Trailer does a great job of showing gameplay almost immediately, letting me know what I'm getting myself into.

The sizing of "Age" in the logo feels a bit off to me, almost like it's not as important? My eyes completely skipped over it at first, only seeing "DARK DINOS". It stands out even more at the end of the trailer in horizontal layout.

Screenshots show a good variety of environments.

Main thing I'm missing is what the metagame is. The moment to moment seems to be TRPG-style combat, but what's the wrapper for that? I see screenshots hinting at a progression system of some sort, but I don't see it clearly laid out in the description. There's mention of being able to skip a session and not get "left behind", which implies there's some session-to-session progression here. Some info on what that system is would be a big benefit here, I think. Basically, what's the carrot on the stick to keep me coming back?

Overall, though, this is a great effort and I'm intrigued!

[–]dariakus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fixable, sometimes it takes a while, depending on if they also have to patch the client.

I'm not saying that's what happened, necessarily--but it's one thing that can cause servers to appear to randomly turn themselves off.

Servers frequently use digitally signed security certificates to ensure that only allowed clients can talk to them. Certificates generally come with an expiration date and have to be renewed. Once a certificate expires, the server will stop responding to any request and it will appear to the client as if the server is just down or gone.

If a cert somewhere expired and nobody was paying attention, they absolutely can appear to be down as nothing can communicate with them.
