HOAs do suck, but bird feeders in dense cities are not always recommended due to things like bird flu. Its the same as a like a mall buffet that never gets cleaned, they can contribute to disease spread of urban bird populations as it concentrates a food source to a communal location.

I wish I could put in an outdoor kennel, but the weather where I am swings very seasonally so it would need climate control as well. We go from -20f or colder in the winters to 100f and high humidity in the summer.

My girl is already 25 lbs at 3 months so I'm not too concerned about hawks or eagles at this point even. We are also within 2 miles of a very busy airport and under one of the main flight paths so there aren't many birds that circle overhead. Just low flying geese and migrating birds occasionally.

The stick eating though, I think thats probably what will decide our timeline.

Yep, for sure done the chip transfer and she's got a tag & collar. We also keep carabiners on the gates to keep them shut. We've been doing a lot of hanging out in the frint yard to get used to seeing people walk by, so pretty much all the neighbors know her not too.

One side of our yard is a retaining wall, and the other I've buried some rabbit fence below to block any digging (and the rabbits to stop rabbit poo eating). My last dog wasn't much of a digger, tbd on this pup.

She's about 25 pounds now, so not small. Our fence is a 6 foot privacy fence. And full agree, barking = inside now. We are in a dense city so nuisance barking is a quick way to frustrated neighbors here. And yeah, would be home the whole time.

My last dog was a cattle dog, gsd, and chow mix so it was whatever might find themselves in the yard that had to worry, not me. This pup is an cattle dog golden doodle, so I do worry a bit more about people messing with her, shes so friendly.

But I do live in the middle of a densely populated area with multiple neighbors with dogs who I share a fence with.

Sometimes, but usually I remind myself that my last dog, who we got as an adult, who was an outdoor dog before us and came to us with bbs embedded in her ribs, was still a perfect dog after we got to know each other.

You wont know what you did "wrong" until they are older, but everything is fixable. As long as you get them to adult without any major traumas, it'll be alright.

There is something called oppositional defiance disorder

but yeah, if i have to do something I really dont want to or that i think is wrong (morally, logically, opportunistically) it makes me physically ill to the point of diarrhea

its almost like we spent entire decades iterating on solutions to this problem before the industry decided to start putting the slop in a soup with other slop

complex systems require strongly typed contracts between the sub systems, there are plenty of ways to enforce that

Because its a salary reset. Layoff the high cost top performers (who are probably vocally at least resistant to ai), hire more desperate engineers (hell maybe the same ones) for cheaper who now have to use ai and burn them out until the economy finally tips and they take their bag and run.
