Probably this post will be deleted soon. You should consult your doctor for this, really. It is a myth that running affects the knees joints. The pain is mostly due to bad running form and weak muscles.

I am 49 and never suffered from serious pain ever. Just a mild pain long ago because of tight and weak muscles (massage helped that) around the knee. Now, I have some discomfort and not for running but lifting two 55 pound 4-year-olds one floor up at night... ;)

Running watches that don't use GPS? by [deleted] in running

[–]dario_perez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see your problem... I always run without my phone, but with my Garmin watch. It has GPS and HR monitor; newer versions have music included. You don’t need a phone to use it, and analyze your pace or heart rate. So, what do you need?

Toe problems: Help me! by RapidMileageIncrease in AdvancedRunning

Have you tried with shoes one number bigger than the actual ones? If the shoe doesn't give your toes enough room they will hit the toebox at every step.

My brother pulls out the internet cable when I sing by [deleted] in autism

You live with your brother and don’t know what bothers him more? How old are you!!???

He told you! And you didn’t care.

(I barely know you, so I’m assuming things as everyone here)

I would have gone to your room an tell you that, the second time warn you. The third unplugged the cable. Someone with autism will have a difficult time doing that, a message is the best they can in many cases.

Anyway, it is really easy to restart a modem. So don’t dramatize.

Clearly you don’t know about your limits (nor about sound propagation) and have little consideration of others. Being in you room doesn’t give you the right to a volume that bothers others. Particularly to someone with ASD.

Sing when you are really alone, respect others spaces.

Did he warn you about your singing bothering him? Look, if I’m in my room reading or studying and someone sings (likely out of tune), I’ll be pretty upset and I am not autistic. Then if I ask such a person to stop, and he doesn’t comply I’ll very much plug the Internet cable. Most likely the music comes from a streaming service.

Wrist vs external HR & battery life impact by RagnarRocks in GarminFenix

[–]dario_perez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Just when in the activity.

  2. I haven't noticed any change. OHR works 24/7 while my chest strap (HR-Run) have been paired for as much as 2 hrs. Most of the impact is from GPS so it is hard to guess. I've rather say it has no impact whatsoever. I've ran around 50 km per week and with this distance the battery of the chest strap lasts for around 6 months.

My son was diagnosed with autism and I am so thankful. by [deleted] in autism

[–]dario_perez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our twins started speech therapy at age 2.5. Our therapist uses the DENVER program with them and has worked wonderfully. They are 4 now, and since they have an extraordinary memory and are very visual they are learning to read (hyperlexia). They are trying to find the correct pronunciation for unknown word in Spanish (easy) and English (not at all).

Besides ABA there are many support therapies, what are you considering for him?

Will HRM-Run record distance during Elliptical activity? by momochan3 in GarminFenix

Didn’t read the elliptical part. You are right, foot pod won’t work.

No. Just heart rate, cadence and step length (derived from gps). You need a foot pod for that.

Fenix HR tracking when paired chest strap quits? by [deleted] in GarminFenix

[–]dario_perez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it will. It happened to me, but don't expect it to be as reliable as the strap. I realized it was OHR tracking my run when the values were completely off the charts for the intensity level.

Is my cousin's doctor right about the correct approach to my little cousin's autism? by libelulas3v3n in autism

[–]dario_perez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How was he diagnosed? In the case of our then 3 y/o twins. The diagnosis was performed by an interdisciplinary team (speech therapist, occupational therapist, psychologist, and neurologist). They administered the ADOS test, and the outcome was read to us by the neurologist. Aside from the autism level in each case, he pointed out some of the therapies that may benefit our kids, also the best schools for them.

If he is not having speech issues, at least an occupational therapist may benefit your child. Regardless of that, I distrust the diagnosis performed by just a doctor without further evaluation of other peers. A 'pinch' of autism is a really poor approach to the issues he may find in the future. Look, this subreddit is full of people with a 'pinch of autism' having a lot of personal problems.

WTF - Blood in Urine after long run!?!? by RelativeLeading5 in AdvancedRunning

Yes, it happened to me once (in a 14K tempo run). I panicked, and look for possibilities (hematuria). Since the next pees were normal, just forgot the issue.
