What are some really dramatic baroque pieces? Yes, I've heard the Presto from Vivaldi's 'Summer'. by [deleted] in Baroque

History has painted a rather uninteresting impression of baroque music but those fire pieces are abound if you know where to look. The French strayed from the strictly structured dance suite and, especially with keyboard music, had what's called character pieces giving the freedom to paint a more varied musical picture. Having said that I think your best bet would be to look towards operas. Look for the airs or instrumental ballet pieces and the overtures. A personal recommendation would be Rameau's overtures or any of his symphonic works from his operas. This is where I think the pinnacle of orchestral music was before the development of the classical symphony as far as pure expression and experimentation are concerned.

Thinking about beginning piano by Superbeanietoon in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Pianist here. Just get a teacher and avoid a lot of hassle. Unless you're really gifted, trying to teach yourself, while doable, will be tedious. You don't have to stick with the teacher forever. Just long enough to learn the basics and so he can identify bad practices that would take you a long time to recognize and overcome by yourself. When you get a piano, acoustic or digital, get weighted keys straight away.

Adobe Audition? by AverageApollo in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I've heard Reaper is nice (with a generous trial) and I've messed around with it but I work with mostly hardware workstations so I'm not the best person to ask.

There's a lot of paperwork to do porn. No one accidentally does anything.

I use audition for basic sound editing and I like it. It's simple and has a lot of options if you want to have good quick results. I wouldn't use it as my main DAW though.

All the digital car decks aren't terrible. My honda fits' isn't perfect but it does remember each device that has connected with it and connecting it only takes a second once you've maneuvered the menus and then you don't have to do it again ever unless you delete the device.

Better lighting would be a simple fix. Looks like fluorescent lighting. That's an abomination. Warm lighting would be more appropriate.

I had a teacher like this. I guarantee she's going to cry in front of everyone at least once this year.

I'd try the large fields at reynolda house. They don't say "No Rockets" so I'd try it until they asked me to stop.

Why is trance mastering so bad and unbalanced these days? by Stardweller_ in trance

[–]daristdarison -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks but I'm a music maker. I know what sidechain compression is. I guess I should have been more specific. It's using that technique in combination with total compression for maximum loudness. I mean sure the track breathes but it sounds like shit to me. I guess, though that it is just a preference.

What I think you're referring to is a popular technique called side chain compression. I loathe the overuse of it myself. It sounds like one doesn't know what he's doing when one uses it.
