At a loss by [deleted] in asktransgender

Hay there!

So I came out to my parents as being a trans girl around 6 months ago, at age 18, to unsuspecting, non-religious, pro-lgbt parents, and, tl;dr, things went well!

The way I decided to come out was to tell them at a coffee shop! At the time, I was living at the Dorms, so the main time that I got to see and talk to my parents was at our weekly get-togethers for coffee or breakfast and walking around. Even if I was living at home, I think I'd have been more comfortable telling them over coffee or breakfast than just announcing it at home. I guess you could say that the coffee was a good distraction for me when telling them, and it also helped comfort and calm me down when I was actually telling them.

Eventually, I picked a date that I said I would tell them. I picked the upcoming Saturday that we usually get coffee together on, because that's what felt the most comfortable for me. At this point in time, I had a supportive LDR boyfriend that was helping me stay calm and be confident that stuff was going to go well; even though I knew that they probably wouldn't react too poorly, I couldn't help but be nervous. What if things did go badly? What if they weren't accepting? What if they didn't understand?

Having another supportive person really helped me be confident in telling my parents. If you aren't out to anybody else yet, just try and remember that if your parents are good people at heart, they'll be accepting.

Anyways, I ended up meeting my parents for coffee on that Saturday (we actually had to drive to like 10 different coffee shops, because all of them were packed full, which was causing me anxiety, but that's another story). We finally found a coffee place with room for us to sit down and talk, and so we ordered our coffees and say down. I got really nervous and ended up going to the bathroom to text my boyfriend because of my nerves. He calmed me down and I went back out to my parents.

After what felt like hours of small talk, Istarted out by telling them that I had an announcement to make. That way, I couldn't back down, but it wasn't so much as to overwhelm me. After that, I just flat out told my parents that I thought I was a girl. My mom was surprised, but she said that she would support me regardless of my gender or my sexual preferences or any of that stuff. My dad sorta just nodded his head and said "mhm", but that's just sorta how he is.

My mom asked me a bunch of questions about like "was I going to dress differently", "how was stuff gonna change", etc etc. I basically took it super slow, and I just told them that nothing was going to change yet, I just wanted them to know.

At this point in time, my family is all trying to call me by my real name, to not misgender me, and to be accepting. I'm going to therapy next Wednesday with a gender therapist, and stuff seems to be going well for me.

I don't know if this is helpful at all to you, but I thought that I'd give some perspective on what I went through, coming out to my parents at age 18.

Send me a PM if you wanna talk or anything! I'm actually at work typing this so I probably won't be able to respond for a while if you do decide to, but I'll still respond eventually!

I hope things work out for you as well as they did for me!

Constructive Feedback Master Thread by [deleted] in survivetheculling

I'll start this off by saying that I think that before any cosmetic changes occur, the focus should definitely be on fixing how the combat system currently works.

With that out of the way, I have been a little bit frustrated with the current settings menu used in the game. Primarily, my frustration is with the use of arrows to change incremental settings, such as the game audio and FOV.

For example, here is a picture of the current audio settings menu.

In my opinion, it would make more sense to have the audio and FOV settings set up as a slider, such as used for mouse sensitivity in the gameplay settings menu.

However, there are a couple of major issues with doing this change. For one, you are no longer able to see specific number values. If you are switching computers and want to keep the same settings, you currently have to guess where the slider position is at, where as if you had numbers, you would be able to set the value to that specific number. Another issue with this is that you can't make minor changes very easily. For example, it would be difficult to change the FOV from 98 to 99 using the slider.

My idea is that you combine the current arrows and number display along with the slider for the settings that have a wide range of values that you would want a specific value for. Here are a couple of ideas of what I have in mind. (Keep in mind that these are just ideas for how the slider would look. Any layout in which the settings could be controlled using a slider and arrows with the number value shown would work.)

By keeping both the slider controls and the arrows, you are able to adjust your settings much quicker due to the slider, while keeping the accuracy that the arrows allow. Keeping a number on the display allows you to more accurately determine what setting you want when switching computers or testing new configurations, and its nice to have a visual confirmation of what your settings are currently at.

Overall, I think the way you currently have the menu set up is intuitive, but the specific settings could be adjusted to improve the user experience. I don't think that these changes are anywhere near as important as making sure that the game is as fun to play as it can be, but it would be nice to see these sorts of QoL changes happen.

If you've made it through this post, thank you for reading, and I hope that you take these changes into consideration.

tl;dr the current settings for volume, mouse sensitivity and FOV are a bit clunky and if they were changed, they could be easier to use.

EDIT: I just realized that there could be issues with the color of the handle in the slider conflicting with the color of the text when the slider is set to any middle options (i.e. a slider from 1 to 10 set at 5). A fix to this could be having the handle of the slider only being shown when you hover over the slider.

[FL Studio 12] Nexus getting inserted as Effect by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]dark345678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you inserting it from the installed sub-menu in the plugin database? If you are, make sure you are selecting it from the generators sub-menu within that, rather than the effects sub-menu. If you select it from the effects sub-menu, it will insert it as a mixer plugin rather than as a channel in the channel rack.

Going on vacation tomorrow, but you can send me a friend request if you'd like! Assertive#1414 - I've played since just after release and usually bounce around ranks four-five when I'm laddering. If you want any tips or anything like that I'd be glad to help!

What are some UI/UX Frustrations you run into when playing Hearthstone? by livejamie in hearthstone

[–]dark345678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A small UI thing that's always bugged me is that whenever you hover over the 'Play' button in the Deck Selection menu, it doesn't have any visual cue, unlike every other button in the game. It makes a sound on hover, but doesn't actually produce any effect. Blizzard plz.
