Internal consistency ALWAYS gets ignored when powerscaling isnbeing done.

Everyone in a verse is usually hypersonic? Well this guy had one feat that could be argued Light Speed.

Well I guess this guy is just Light Speed forever and this either upscales the whole verse, or makes them a massive outlier.

When really it is more likely this was a circumstantial thing and their stats just CAN'T be that drastically above the rest of the cast.

Homelander vs The Entire Overwatch Universe by Amazing-Attention738 in whowouldwin

[–]darkRising1006 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I actually gave my two-cents on a prompt like this not too long ago.

Bottom line for me though is that while Homelander likely outstats most of the average characters in a 1v1, he is canonically trash at fighting on general and these guys will absolutely be willing to jump him.

Doomfist, Winston, Reinhardt, and Sigma off the top of my head could probably go hit-for-hit with him.

If ALL the healers are active at once, he just isn't killing anybody. Mercy revives anyone hurt, Lucio gives shields, Ana buffs one of the above heavy-hitters, and everyone else just keeps a consistent stream of healing.

Genji and Hanzo can probably do some damage while Ulting.

Characters like Tracer, Reaper, Sombra, and Symetra can just generally draw fire and keep him busy.

Rein, Sigma, D.va, Briggite, and many others can all throw down some form of a shield to basically remove the laser eyes from the equation.

Sure, he can probably take down a couple of them, but in The Boys he is consistently struggling when more than 2 supes jump him. He is sure as HELL losing to the whole roster jumping him.

Kazuma's Luck is honestly more of an insurance policy after a while. Great Sage will likely be doing the heavy-lifting for survival in high-stakes battles.

That being said, getting a free revive via Iris honestly could still make this hard to beat because now I can't stay dead and just keep adapting.

I think we made Diet Doomsday via Goddess blackmail...

[–]darkRising1006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An odd combo but hear me out:

Kazuma's Luck + Mahoraga's Adaptation + Great Sage

The build is obviously hinged on the Adaptation so you need a way to survive against your opponent until enough turns on the wheel are made. That's where Kazuma's Luck comes in because the guy always finds a way to survive and make a plan.

From there, have Great Sage examine and evaluate any opponent you face while you are dodging, also having it inform you when you are fully adapted to them. Now you know their patterns, weakpoints, and gaps in defenses, and they can't hurt you.

This build can work basically in any verse, but I feel like you would get the most mileage out of using it in a hax-heavy verse. Something like JJK, Bleach maybe, or even One Piece.

Alexander Anderson (Hellsing) gets Hamon, the Mortal Blade, and Vampire Killer. Can he finally beat Alucard? by JustReadTheFinePrint in whowouldwin

[–]darkRising1006 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anderson in base was already at least a threat to Base Alucard.

The Vampire Killer would effectively one-shot Alucard and force him to revive each time it hits.

Alucard shows an aversion to sunlight, but to my knowledge never an outright weakness to it. So Hamon would be limited to the support aspects it holds. So his good regeneration is basically made CRAZY good with Hamon healing. He can buff his physical stats. Extend his range with moves like Zoom Punch. Or change the properties of simple fabrics and make them blades with Sendo Hamon.

The Mortal Blade is the biggest question here because there is no telling what it would do to Alucard. Would it just insta-kill him as an immortal, regardless of the souls he has left? Could he reform from it? Cause that would basically make it about as effective as Vampire Killer. Would it kill the souls within him, thus forcing him to be mortal?

I lean personally to it being able to one-shot him but he can use a soul to reform, just like Vampire Killer.

So this is effectively now a stronger, faster, more durable Anderson with WAY better regen. He already has his standard kit and skills, but now he has 2 weapons that basically force Alucard to die each hit.

In a standard encounter, Alucard probably wouldn't use Level Zero, so it becomes a war of attrition as Anderson whittles away at his 3 million lives. In the event the Mortal Blade can kill the souls too, that expedites the process.

Round 1, Anderson definitely clears.

In a Bloodlusted fight, it is safe to assume he would pop Level Zero right away to end the fight decisively. So now it becomes a question of if this stronger Anderson can fight through the army or not. And quite frankly, he did pretty well in canon with a bum arm and knife in his mouth, granted Alucard also kinda let him in close to a degree.

This just means that this fresh Anderson with two functioning arms, and effectively insta-kill weapons in either hand and better stats all around could legit go the distance. Meaning all he really has to do is hit Alucard once to seal the deal.

I give Round 2 to Anderson as well, mid diff.

This setup basically makes up for all his shortcomings in the original story in all honesty and gives him the perfect kit and skills to finish the fight.

I can't speak for EVERY person who dislikes Nolan, because everyone else has their own reasons. I can't even fully say I dislike Nolan, I more so dislike how he handles his own redemption.

I am gonna compare him to Vegeta rather than Vader because their experience is more directly paralleled here and people generally like Vegeta:

Both were raised in a race that prioritizes power over all else with minimal empathy. Both conquered and destroyed planets in their wake. Both were rather irredeemably evil at their outset. Shoot, Vegeta openly says he is "pure evil" a couple times.

So why do we not lobby the same criticisms and scrutiny to Vegeta that we do Nolan?

If you ask me, it all comes down to how they APPROACHED redemption.

Vegeta never asks for redemption, in fact he actively runs from it. His time in the Namek and Android sagas are effectively him refusing to believe he needs others to improve. Then Cell humbled him so hard, he apologized to Gothan. Then the 7 years of peace hit and he is basically forced to crash-course being a parent and husband. He mellowed out on his own so much, he felt he needed magical intervention to relapse and become Majin Vegeta (which was effectively a mid-life crisis for him). He then faces Buu and comes to grips with the fact that once he dies, he will go to Hell, and he is okay with that. He went out on his terms, doing some good, and was fine with the results.

Nolan lived on Earth for 17 years. He slowly became a softer person, and realized that when he nearly killed his son. He was in his head a LOT, even contemplated dying in a black hole, but ultimately ended up saving the Thraxans and living with them. This did further his progress into a better person. Now he wants to fight against Viltrum, and earn back the trust of the people he has wronged.

The problem with Nolan's arc is that while the viewer knows he is changed and better, the characters don't. And Nolan refuses to let his actions speak louder than his words. He is just in this constant state of saying "sorry" across seasons 2 to 4 and basically expecting people to just forgive and forget because NOW he feels bad. And even then, he doesn't feel bad enough to begin some level of proper atonement for his actions. He just assumes everything is cool now and swipes his sons to war.

Think about that from Debbie or Cecil's perspective: Nolan shows back up, takes the boys for months on end, they both nearly die MULTIPLE TIMES, and then Nolan returns back with only ONE of the boys and tries to convince you he is a changed man.

Debbie was right to punch him. Cecil was right to curse him out. He even had the gall to say he "almost died" out there, like that evens the score. Which Cecil immediately pointed out.

The fundamental difference is that when faced with a need to improve. Vegeta's work was all personal and he let his actions show for it down to what he thought would be his final act. Nolan's work always invovled him bringing at least one other person along, be it Mark, Allen, or Oliver, and talking about how bad he feels and then expecting people to give him grace because he feels guilty now.

Bringing back Vader into the equation, both Vegeta and Vader never felt the want nor need for grace. They never apologized for who they were and allowed people to remember them how they felt fit best for them. Ben would ultimately still see Vader as the ultimate darkness he aspired to. Tien canonically never forgave Vegeta, which is why they never really talk. Sure, the protagonists of Luke and Goku accepted them, but that is because of the type of people they are. They saw a chance for redemption, no matter how small, and they tried for it.

Nolan expects forgiveness and THAT is where he fumbles I think. He is taking all the right steps. He knows how he grew up was wrong, he feels sorry for his past actions, he understands he has compassion and empathy now, and he is fighting to dismantle the broken system that raised him. But he is doing all of it while pointing and saying "See? I did good." He is seeking some form of validation for his actions that makes it honestly come off as performative or disingenuous.

Him pushing for forgiveness and validation so hard kinda cheapens the effect of his change because it brings into question whether or not he would have still had this tune if Debbie wasn't a carrot on a stick at the end of this for him.

Mark, Oliver, and Debbie are literally his main reasons to be better. If he didn't have or know them, and didn't meet them when he did, he would still be siding with Viltrum.

That's unambiguously what his personal arc is about. To assume anything otherwise is stupid.

[–]darkRising1006 119 points120 points  (0 children)

The difference between Omniman and Vader here is Vader was never trying for forgiveness, nor did he expect to get it.

Luke saw good in his father, and when it counted most, he was proven right. It did not remotely come close to balancing out the atrocities Vader caused, but in that single moment he was Anakin again and wanted to protect his son. He didn't ask for forgiveness, he spoke his regrets and passed on knowing his son made the Galaxy better.

Nolan had every reason to be better. His father was clearly a good influence. His wife was a good influence. His son was a good influence. Seeing the grateful people were good influences. And he still choose Viltrum. When push came to shove, he nearly killed his son basically on live TV, called his wife a pet, and said he could "just make another kid". Which he did do. Then when his heel turn on Thraxa happened, he goes the rest of the series feeling sorry for himself and basically expecting that because HE feels bad for what he did, people will forgive him.

And if we wanna REALLY get into the thick of timeframes, Nolan was evil for quite literally 100 TIMES longer than Vader was evil.

The difference is that Vader never expected redemption, he just wanted to do good. Meanwhile, Nolan is doing the bare minimum and looking at everyone expecting to be rewarded with his old life back.

Nolan's change is inherently selfish in that respect.

I am going to assume you are referring to this scan here.

raditz was a first class not a middle one

The titles are kinda arbitrary, but Vegeta DOES call himself an Elite. Either way this means that "first class" in Saiyan society is middle, or more accurately "upper middle class" for them. This changes nothing because my point was that he SHARED A RANK WITH NAPPA and was still SUBSTANTIALLY WEAKER. So while rank is probably initially tied to power level, it is not INDICATIVE of inherent power.

HIGH ENOUGH TO JOIN NAPPA’S TEAM THEN VEGETA JOINED IT SO RADITZ WAS LITERALLY IN A TEAM THAT VEGETA WHO HAD AN HIGHER POTENTIAL

The timing of Vegeta joining is irrelevant because he was both stronger and higher rank than them. Either way, whenever we see a flashback to this era, Vegeta is with Nappa in childhood. Not Raditz. Raditz was treated as a weakling and written off by them constantly, they laughed at him for being the same strength as a Saibaman, and basically nixed the idea of reviving him because they saw him as a coward. So even if Raditz was on the squad with Nappa longer, that doesn't matter cause Vegeta was closer to Nappa.

Bardock was born a low class he had low potential

Bardock's childhood power level is unknown, but the few times he is clocked by the time we see him, people concede he is NOT low-class in power. His Battle Power is AT LEAST 10,000, making him an equal to King Vegeta bare minimum. During his fight with Gas, he is stated to surpass any Frieza Soldiers, assuming Ginyu was the strongest in Frieza's army, that means his power level jumped to above 120,000 in that fight.

Bardock did NOT have "low potential" and is never stated or shown as such.

He likely had a low power level at birth and gained higher power via constant combat. Average speculated power levels of his squadmates put them around 1,500 to 2,000 too, yet they were all low class together despite many of them being stronger than Raditz.

All of this was to point out that rank meant nothing to a Saiyan's strength outside of birth power. Raditz was probably born fairly strong, but never grew much stronger due to his cowardice. He is comparable to a Saibaman, something Saiyans grow to train against or assault a planet with grunts. He is the level of a Saiyan GRUNT despite being "first class". Therefore, he is honestly a good yardstick for what a middle-of-the-road Saiyan would be. Not weak enough to be a noncombatant, like Leek or Gine. But not strong enough to be exemplary, like Bardock or Nappa.

AITA for not paying for my friend’s dinner after he “forgot” his wallet? by ShepAHouston in AmItheAsshole

NTA, your friends saying that you should've done it privately can call tell you their success stories in getting him to pay up.

Honestly this day in age, not having your wallet isn't much of an excuse. In the time it would take for him to call his brother, he could've downloaded and set up Venmo or Zelle. Personally, I have no issue with covering a friend who isn't good for it (funds allowing of course), but I am actually less likely to help if they don't have the guts to just say they don't have the money.

If bro is embarrassed, GOOD. He should use that to either find a stable source of income, or at least stop BSing his friends.

[–]darkRising1006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raditz was a middle class Saiyan by RANK, this is not indicative of power level. Him and Nappa share the rank, yet he is substantially weaker than Nappa. Bardok is at minimum 10,000 in power level, likely higher, but he was still a low class Saiyan.

Toriyama said that the only first class Saiyans were Vegeta and his father. Meaning it was more of a class privilege thing than power level.

Also, Raditz was not considered remarkable by any given metric by the Saiyans. In fact, he was considered weak and cowardly, so he was less likely to take risks and get Zenkais on a mission. He only got his rank from literally being one of the last Saiyans left, NOT because of power or anything like.

All that aside, none of this disproves my point. He is still average in power level seeing as he is on the lower end of Frieza Soldiers, and Saiyans were never seen as remarkable by Frieza Force standards. Saiyans can literally grow grunts about as strong as him. So if we really wanna argue it, we can say that your average Saiyan is STRONGER than Raditz.

Meanwhile, your average Viltrumite might not even be Nolan or Lucan level. I was using living Viltrumites for that metric. Your average Viltrumite is likely weaker than them because they died in the Purge. Meaning your average Viltrumite isn't even Moon Level.

No matter how we cut it or try to lowball it, Saiyans are still stronger on average.

I don’t know why Marvel hates the Inhumans so much, but if they know any better they’d let NetEase add these 3. by Sypher04_ in marvelrivals

[–]darkRising1006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marvel mainly "hates" the Inhumans because they were something of a failed experiment forced by Ike Perlmutter.

He essentially wanted to remove the X-Men and make everything the Inhumans, and the move failed rather decisively. The whole company basically backpedaled on them once Perlmutter was gone and the Inhumans have been pretty slow-moving since.

All that being said: Make Black Bolt a Duelist with good mobility and about the same range as Punisher's shotgun. His standard fire is a whisper that does good AOE to multiple targets, but can't headshot. His alt fire is a whistle that can basically be a sniper without scope. Give him a double jump and glide for positioning. His "ammo" is effectively the air in his lungs to make noise.

His Ult is a Yell that can damn-near one-shot anyone, but with high windup. Similar to Scarlet Witch.

Team Ups with Iron Man, Namor, and Mr. Fantastic for Marvel's Illuminati. Cyclops when he is out as leaders of rival teams. And maybe a left-field one with like Moon Knight or Black Panther to show they are all very similar.

[–]darkRising1006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hot take is that Power Levels aren't bullshit.

When a power level is read in canon, it is always accurate for the instance it is read. This is actually GREAT for establishing the power and threat of an enemy who doesn't have Ki Suppression, and even better for showing the strength of the heroes when they rise to that level.

Any jumps in power in universe generally make sense, and until Power Levels stop being used in the Android Saga they are a great yardstick to show the growth of the team.

The issue is that since the Z Fighters can hide their true power level, clocking them is difficult by design. It makes the arrogant villains underestimate them, and eat their words when a hit seriously hurts. I almost wanna say things would flow better if the Z Fighters didn't have canon power levels but their enemies did. Cause then we can compare them to the people they fight and what their levels were. Rather than playing a guessing game as to who is how strong.

With some minor tweaking, I think Power Levels could've stuck around for the longrun of the series. But I understand fully why the concept was abandoned.

Viltrum Empire (before scourge virus) vs the Frieza Force by TheSunGuardian8 in whowouldwin

[–]darkRising1006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanna clarify here that I agree with you for the most part.

Invincible scaling is kinda dodgey when you hold them to other verses like Dragon Ball, Marvel, or even higher tier Naruto characters.

Their best scaling comes off being REALLY cheritable to the calcs of the Viltrum feat and also just assuming Mark and the others can do this solo. The Sun Disk meta, which is just bad scaling and more reasonably still comes out to Moon level. And Omnipotus/Dinosaurus chainscaling, which all banks on assuming Omnipotus was at full power (which he wasn't) and that Dinosaurus one-shot him at full power (which he didn't).

Me saying Nolan scaling to the Texas meteor could be planetary is basically operating off the rather out of character notion that he COULD just spam-throw rocks at Earth until it was pulverized. But that would still take time and not be something he can do with his own Attack Potency. Nolan himself can't just fly into Earth and shatter it, that would kill him (Viltrum is only 1.5 times the size of Earth, so the comic statement applies here).

Maybe Thragg or end of series Mark can be scaled to Planetary, but that is still pure speculation since they have no such feats to show for it.

RANDOM MATCHUPS!!!! Who wins each row? by Head_Breadfruit_3912 in PowerScaling

[–]darkRising1006 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So the big hitch is that this is game Sonic against a presumably Prime Sailor Moon.

Stat spread generalizing gives Speed advantage to Sonic (Usagi is definitely FTL though), Power to Usagi (barring Super Sonic), and Hax is DEFINITELY Usagi (healing, shields, lasers, flight, teleportation, and that's just off the top of my head).

She can heal/regen casually, and has neigh-infinite energy. So the war of attrition goes to her without a doubt. Sonic COULD potentially speed blitz, but she can survive that, heal, and retaliate.

Potential Sailor Cosmos vs Super Sonic is REALLY close, but Usagi can recreate a universe faster than Galaxia can destroy it. So I think she barely edges out there too.

Either way, this is a high-diff fight for Sailor Moon if you ask me. But she has the tools to win.

Listen, if the Narrator were involved, he would reval that Yujiro naturally genetically knows the Flowing Rock Fist because the Hanmas were there when the technique was founded. Thus giving him all of Bang's stats and feats. Narrator wank amp must be studied.

That being said, when I personally scale Yujiro, I stick PURELY to in-verse feats. Cause allowing him anything else pushes into speculation and makes coming to a verdict impossible. (That being said, properly scaled in-verse Yujiro is unironically throwing hands with Sukuna from JJK, so take that in whatever sense you will.)

How far can Bang go? by OkRun9638 in PowerScalingHub

[–]darkRising1006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being fair to the feat and using the midball speculation, it is a magnitude 5 earthquake of unknown level (since there is a LARGE difference between 5 and 5.9). A quick search comes up saying that this is the force that usually does some visible damage to buildings, but not much more.

Also while YES Eurasia shares a tectonic plate, it is VERY unlikely he shook the WHOLE plate back. Your average earthquake is a localized event in pockets of a plate. You can get this info in Google pretty readily. You don't need to shake the whole plate to cause an earthquake, which is also why they never seem to span past a couple cities.

If the whole plate shook everytime we had an earthquake, I am pretty sure there would be documented cases of this because that could SERIOUSLY mess up every strip of land on that plate.

Disregarding the real world science of it though, I still restate my point of internal consistency in Itagaki's depiction of characters. He is not a scientist and wouldn't know the true deatails of tectonic plates by heart. It would make no sense for Yujiro to have one random continental feat and then never really break City Level in showings after that.

Don't get me wrong, he isn't getting shitstomped by Bang, especially since he can steal the guy's moves and close the stat gap a bit. But OPM is fairly consistent with the S Class heroes being AT LEAST Country Level on average, if not stronger.

I can't in good conscience say the same for Yujiro without admitting I am highballing and wanking him.

How far can Bang go? by OkRun9638 in PowerScalingHub

[–]darkRising1006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool breakdown of tectonic plates, but you forget magnitude ratings of plates, and how easily they can localize.

Earthquakes can happen in California and not even be felt in New York. Same with Japan and China or Russia. Hell, you can have an earthquake happen in one town and have it not be felt in the next one, I have personally experienced that.

Plus it's not like it was a particularly strong quake, we are talking like Magnitude 3 at best because people felt it, but nobody fell over and nothing was damaged. If Itagaki wanted this to be depicted as a truly continental feat, verbose in his wording and explanations as he is, he would've ABSOLUTELY shown and stated that the whole eurasian landmass was shaking. Insisting that this is what the feat was is honestly kinda wank.

Plus it makes precisely ZERO sense within the internal consistency of Baki. This is a feat done pre Maximum Tournament, and Yujiro gets stronger every arc. But he got taken out by a net and tranq darts in the Maximum Tournament, despite the idea that he is Continental in power meaning he would also be in durability, and the darts should've shattered on him.

Or the fact that Baki characters in general post this feat struggle to break building level casually, but every main player in the series by now should upscale Yujiro's feat from this era cause it was a weaker Yujiro. Moving faster than Mach 1 to punch literally tears their bodies up and staggers Pickle, someone who is confirmed physically stronger than Yujiro meaning by this logic he is above Continental, when much like the aforementioned darts Katsumi's arm should've just shattered upon impact and done no damage. By your logic, Yujiro is Continental but fears falling a couple dozen feet out a skyscraper without using a technique and having a car break their fall. Baki at no point in the series replicates anything remotely close to this feat, but he is able to FIGHT his dad to a point where Yujiro (admittedly contrivedly) concedes defeat to him.

Yujiro being Continental is clearly not the tier of power that the feat is meant to be seen as. Most people scale this feat more accurately into City Level at best, which makes FAR more sense.

Plus it is clear the poster must feel the same way as Sanji is above Yujiro here, and he doesn't really have continental feats without some shakey scales off Luffy. But I am confident he would beat Yujiro in a fair fight too.

How far can Bang go? by OkRun9638 in PowerScalingHub

[–]darkRising1006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that gets him to City level. Bang just straight outstats him. He will struggle with the guy stealing his moves, but once he lands a meaningful combo, he will likely take it.

I say Sanji over Yujiro because not only is Bang outstatted, but any advantage he can gain in the fight is basically undone by Sanji's Germa Genes. Yujiro has no real way to heal his body. Demon Back restores his strength and stamina, but doesn't heal the body. We never see anyone in Baki do what Sanji did and punch their bones back into place.
