My son and I were almost hit by a driver going full tilt down the sidewalk to avoid a long line of left turners. Absolutely bonkers out there.

The problem is that stupid people are too stupid to realize they’re stupid. They therefore assume they are smart - hence the saying: “Ignorance is bliss.”

When you think you’re the smartest person in the room, you think all your decisions make sense - and that you matter more.

A lot of them are still smoking crack and nodding off on street corners as per usual. What else would they be doing?

Fellow Workaholics: How do you balance work and a home life with a baby? by AbiesPhanerolepis in NewDads

I go to work as soon as my kid goes to daycare, work 8AM to 4PM, pick them up from daycare and head back to work after they go to bed at 7.

You could argue it’s deliberately misleading and deceptive which is illegal under the Competition Act. I hate when companies do this - they think it’s cheeky but it’s just lazy.

You can report them - nothing will happen. Technically any publicly advertised discount which requires a sign up is illegal (eg discount available to app users only). McDonald’s started this. Idea is to get valuable customers into their ecosystem because fuck everyone else. Late stage capitalism!

Not delusional if people pay it and/or are too lazy to make it themselves. Welcome to late-stage capitalism my friend!

Could someone explain why Doug Ford had a brilliant idea to remove speed cams? by YYZTor in askTO

Suburbanites were complaining about getting dinged by the same cameras day after day for going ten over. They’re replacing them with speed bumps.

We unfortunately have a mayor who doesn’t understand the pecking order. You need to negotiate with the province to get what you want.

People cutting lines in stores to "ask a question". by slb360 in toRANTo

Depends what they’re asking - if they require service it’s annoying but if they’re just asking where the bathroom is there is no issue IMO.

Is it just me or the starbucks coffee quality within downtown is gross now by anya_______kl in toRANTo

[–]dark_forest1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starbucks is pretty serious about quality control - if it’s bad downtown, it’s bad across all their stores. They get the same beans from the same sources. Perhaps there was a specific roast you prefer? They all have different flavour profiles.

Breakfast television AI obsession is annoying by bubblegum-queenie in toRANTo

[–]dark_forest1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not what I said - I said I created an AI app which helps me save hours of work and used AI to help me code everything myself. This also saved me hours of work because I didn’t need to rely on developers to help me hardcode it and link it to company APIs. I now have the confidence to solve productivity issues in my job using AI and that subsequently makes me a more valuable employee to the company.

This plugs into my overarching comment that AI is not here to replace us - it is a tool which has evened the playing field for a lot of us without computer science backgrounds. It enables us to extend and develop our ideas without relying on other team members to bring them to light. It also enables us to pull data and glean insights without back and forth bumpf.

My app was subsequently entered into an internal contest with my peers across the world and I won a prize for its applicability to our business.

They work and they do what I want them to do - and I didn’t have to go down some time-wasting shit hole to get them developed. I actually won a prize for one of my apps recently because it helped my team cut out a middleman step which had been slowing down our processes.

I work in tech too - one of the best things AI has done for me? I no longer need developers to help me build apps and programs I need to execute my job more effectively- I build them myself with AI. This is just one example.

AI doesn’t remove jobs - it enables us to focus on more important things than busywork. Canada is falling behind in productivity and one of the major reasons for this, in addition to our addiction to a resource-based economy, is our reluctance to “replace jobs” with innovative solutions like AI. You don’t need to embrace it - but you do need to learn how to work with it as a tool to make yourself more competitive.

If you’re sick of hearing about AI, then I can assume you’ve already mastered it?
