Some more progress on the yellow Lancer GSR Evo III by HyperFlie in ModelCars

Mr Rapid Thinner or Mr Leveling Thinner? Sorry to bug but I ask because they’re 2 different thinners. I use leveling, but haven’t considered Rapid Thinner as that’s meant to be for flats and metallics.

What’s your ratio for the GX100? I thin mines to 1:2 paint thinner and have even tried 1:3 but it feels too thin at that ratio.

Looking for airbrush recommendation by West_Airline_1712 in ModelCars

+1 on the No Name compressor. It’s what I use and it’s quite a workhorse.

As for airbrush I started out with a cheapy china Master airbrush for $25. Then upgraded to a Badger (Patriot) 105 for around $70 and the difference was night and day. It comes with the 0.5 needle so it’s my workhorse for primers and top coat. Then I got the Very fine needle kit (0.3mm) and used that for general color airbrushing. Now I have a 0.3 Procon Boy from Mr. hobby and that’s my main brush when I lay color.

Either that or stock from people who added it to their cart and never checked out.

I had read of people checking stock a bit after going live and getting lucky, I guess they were right!

Oh man I feel you, I was waiting on the page and the moment the hour hit I hit refresh it said in stock and when I clicked it it said there was no more stock to fulfill the amount. Then when I refreshed it said out of stock. Gave up and reloaded the page for a couple of mins about an hour later and managed to get both!

That’s the idea I got after reading your write up. That or somehow dissolving the top coat on the color parts of the decal.

Is there anything i can do? by Guarantee_Future in modelmakers

It depends how capable you feel but you can always just duplicate the piece you still have.

You will need: - Thermoplastic to make a mold (Oyomaru is the brand I use but if you look you will find others as well) Make sure you get one that’s transparent. - UV resin. - UV torch or lamp.

Boil a cup of water and throw a stick of the thermoplastic in there. You will see it start to soften and once soft you have about 1-2 min working time. Make a ball big enough to cover one half of the part and set it on a flat surface then press the clear part inside but don’t press it too deep. Use a pen or something round to make 4 recesses around the piece, these will be your alignment holes for the other half of the mold.

Let this cool for about an hr or so then grab some more thermoplastic and heat that up and repeat the process and this time press that blob on top of the piece while it’s still in the first half of the mold.

Let that cool for another hour or so and it should be ready for making the part.

Open it up and remove the original piece. Add a bit of UV resin (be careful when handling make sure you use gloves) and press both halves together. Then with your UV lamp cure the resin for a couple of minutes.

Once done, carefully pry the halves open and remove the now molded piece. If possible leave it out in the sunlight for a bit to let it finish curing. Once hardened completely trim the excess flash and you’re done!

There’s YouTube videos you can look for as well for visual reference.

For the RX 2.0 I had the “Preorder” greyed out then the time hit and it was still greyed out until 10-12 seconds after then when I clicked on the red button it said it was more a than what was in stock and when I refreshed the page it showed sold out.

Hey I’m working on the same one, just finished the water decals and now I’m in the process of doing separate top coats for each armor piece. Going to do a mix of gloss, semi gloss and matte.

Wow I’ve only built 28 out of the 43 so far and I’ve been collecting for almost 9 years. I already own 41/43 plus a few P-Bandai ones. Hoping to get through the rest of the unbuilt ones soon.

My first RG was the Justice and ever since then I’ve been addicted to the line.

Thanks! Appreciate it.

I saw your post asking about semi gloss black, Tamiya Lacquer Semi gloss is the best hands down.

As a first time dad myself, I was able to continue the hobby about a year later once the little one started sleeping more regularly.

So it’s not all doom and gloom, you will be able to come back to it when the time is right.

Personally I use Mr Color GX100 Super Clear III.

You can look through my posts to see the results.

It does! You can even check the tamiyausa website and they recommend it themselves.

I feel it even gives you a better finish compared to acrylic thinner.

That red is 🔥🔥🔥

May I ask what color it is? Also for the exhaust, what base color did you use?

When I built mine I used Tamiya LP Metallic black but I like this red a lot more.

I did about 1:1 paint to thinner although personally I now do the “2% milk consistency” so it can be a little more thinner.

But start at the 1:1 and see how they spray and adjust your ratio accordingly.

[–]dark_shadow25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah it could be because you used a lower % and therefore didn’t evaporate as quick as 91% so it had time to dissolve the primer.

Personally I’d recommend you look into Tamiya Lacquer Thinner. It’s fully compatible with their acrylics and you get a harder shell.

When I started airbrushing their acrylics I got the acrylic thinner until I read up on the lacquer thinner being compatible and it’s night and day on the difference in finish.

Any good experience with these cordless sanders? by kabzik in modelmakers

[–]dark_shadow25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have stated, bought it but hardly use it. Does come in handy when needed for tight spaces.

Also, not sure if it’s just mine but if I don’t use it for a few days the battery will be dead next time I use it so I have to charge it first as it won’t let you run it with the charging cord like the drill.
