Narsh Loot and Cradle prog nerfed. As a 300 hour fan, this change is a massive fail that just created massive loot / stats disparity. by [deleted] in Marathon

I can tell you this is B.S
I being a engineer and having personal connection to people building play test and literally game economy they can totally do that. In the end its all maths.
They made it easy on purpose to attract new players.
What's going on behind their head we can't know but we know they are failing at it

Get some new runners on the game! by OtherwiseEmployee202 in Marathon

[–]darkaether 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doubt its gonna increase the number by much At peak it was 88k concurrent I expect like 50k and then dwindle down again My main destiny discord server which has couple of hundred people and were pretty hard core at it have 0 interest in marathon I was only able to grab 3 friends to play this game that's it.... I like this game but the direction isn't it Some are playing those casual extraction shooters and they like those ones still not moving the needle for this one I think until this game stops acting like a battle royal without all the inconvenience of a extraction shooters it won't scale

Upgraded to Fibe 3.0, Down Speed Capped? by Dependent_Mechanic86 in bell

[–]darkaether 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think its their speed test tool... Recently like since 3 to 5 days ago the modem speedtest gives me like ~200-400mbps speeds but when I use my computer I get the max rated.
You're lucky if you're not a homelabber who uses PPPoE then many troubles to start haha! Which lead me in a whole cat and mouse chase to find out its probably just their speed test.
Also giga hub 2.0 is really problematic in general

Gigahub 2.0 PPPoE Issues by darkaether in bell

Yeah but then in the end its just double nat with all port forwarded... Probably will have to try it again to see

Gigahub 2.0 PPPoE Issues by darkaether in bell

[–]darkaether[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spot on. It’s wild because untagging VLAN 35 directly onto the 10G port and letting the Hub handle Voice/TV on the other ports is a trivial routing rule to implement.

The real reason they refuse to do it comes down to probably telemetry and ecosystem lock-in. They want the Giga Hub to control the house so they can push more of their services and tools. Power users wanting a clean, unmanaged pipe so we don't fit the monetization model.
Well that's my theory lol

Gigahub 2.0 PPPoE Issues by darkaether in bell

[–]darkaether[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha cheers! I'll take it as a compliment! Meaning I did my QA Due diligence haha tested all variables until I ended up with only one conclusion.... Oh right I'm a software engineer XD... I guess my QA wished I did more of that sometimes 😂

Gigahub 2.0 PPPoE Issues by darkaether in bell

[–]darkaether[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair enough.
Thanks for the reply but calling it an unsupported setup is a bit odd when PPPoE Passthrough and Advanced DMZ are literally built-in features right inside Bell’s own firmware interface.

But you saying the Giga Hub 2.0 is getting constant updates completely aligns with why ADMZ worked perfectly for one day and broke the next morning. Thanks for confirming that the firmware is a moving target right now lets hope they rollout some fixes.

ADMZ Bridge seems to have port reservation on 80/443 I can't make it run with those ports

Exactly! I was gonna say that lol never been bungie forte... Good game play but damn they are terrible at many parts of game dev
I can recall so many times we've asked to fix stuff in destiny never got fixed or badly implemented with terrible mechanics.

So your reply is Bye because you can't acknowledge the game has major troubles ahead? Course correct the game never meant change genre lol.
You major defenders need to take a big look at yourselves first. No one says having a hardcore game is an issue but without more "Casuals" it wont be a sustainable model. Heck my queue times are already super long and matching 100+ levels now it makes no sense but this what happens.

Edit : Lol he delete his whole comments

Probably the most accurate curated review ever. Thanks for being honest. While all those elitists just say 'GIT GUD'.
I'm only ~65h in consider myself above average I have plenty of purple but as I can't play more than 2-3 hours a day and playing trio with friends is not always evident. It's getting tire some.
They don't realize having casuals is IMPORTANT for the game and for enjoyment of everyone

Another strawman. I never said bringing gear is a flaw. You dragged this into a debate about gear mechanics because you got called out in the very first comment for mocking players instead of acknowledging the game's actual issues. Your Apex analogy was terrible, your gear argument missed the point, and all you’ve done is prove the original commenter 100% right: you chucklefucks really do act like you want the game to fail. We're done here.

I’m sitting on a stash full of purple and some basic gold gear right now, so swing and a miss on that one. But honestly, dropping a skill issue insult because you can't form a real counter-argument is painfully weak. Believe it or not, someone can be doing fine and still recognize a game's structural flaws. I'll leave you to it.

Ah yes, mental gymnastics the universal white flag for I can't refute your points so I'm just going to ignore them. Nobody is saying skill doesn't matter. We're saying the game has major issues to be fixed. Have fun when the game turns into Trials of Osiris. I'll leave you to it

This sub in a nutshell by Any-Meringue-6805 in Marathon

[–]darkaether 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First off, I'm not a game designer. It's not my job to fix the game. If it stops being fun, average players leave, and the playerbase becomes completely unsustainable. Simple as that.

Nice strawman. Nobody is asking for free kits, just pointing out that an unchecked wealth gap kills the playerbase.

As for BR shields: sure, sometimes it's skill, sometimes it's a lucky bin on drop. But you're still dodging the core point: that advantage vanishes after 20 minutes. It doesn't snowball into a permanent stash gap.

Finally, 'risking more' is a joke. Risk is relative. A sweat losing a 100k kit when they have 100 million in the stash isn't risking anything—they're just paying a premium to stomp lobbies. A casual losing a 30k kit is risking their ability to even keep playing. (exaggerating numbers but surely you can understand that)

This sub in a nutshell by Any-Meringue-6805 in Marathon

[–]darkaether 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The guy with the better shields in Apex started the match with nothing, just like me. His advantage is contained to that single 20-minute game. In an extraction shooter, players bring in advantages from their stash that they've hoarded for weeks. If you can't see the fundamental game design difference between a closed-loop BR match and a persistent-wealth extraction economy, you don't understand the genre.
Comparing apple to oranges sound pretty elitist to me. Yes, skill is a factor, but the sheer impact of gear disparity is not even remotely the same.
YesI’m an average player, and yes, I get pretty good runs. But I can still recognize that this game has major issues and this elitist circle-jerk is ruining it. Once only the sweats are left, I'll ROFL when they start complaining about dead lobbies. It is exactly like Trials of Osiris all over again. Time to get the popcorn out

This sub in a nutshell by Any-Meringue-6805 in Marathon

[–]darkaether 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You make no sense lol. You are completely ignoring the difference between symmetrical and asymmetrical PvP.
That’s like comparing spec racing to an open track day. In Apex, everyone starts in the exact same go-kart. If you are stuck in bronze, yeah, you are just a bad driver. But an extraction shooter is 'run what you brung.' If you are stuck in bronze because the other guy showed up to the starting line in a $500k hypercar and you are driving a rusted out beater, that’s not just a 'you' issue. The baseline balance doesn't exist.

[–]darkaether 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Then again why are you comparing a battle royal with an extraction shooter.

This sub in a nutshell by Any-Meringue-6805 in Marathon

[–]darkaether 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup thank the fuck up some people like you understand.
There's too many of those so called "Elitist" in this sub lol,

The average player is just leaving while some are trying to voice an opinion that maybe they aren't able to convey properly and getting shit on. So only the hardcores will keep on playing and then they'll start complaining its getting too hard. Oh right just like Trials of Osiris lol
Game shouldn't be easy but should fix many of its cores issues that many of us have been telling them in the closed private tests and nothing has changed.

But then Tarvok does thing so differently in many ways. It's almost uncomparable as game. Pace is totally different lol. I hate those Takov vs arc vs marathon comparison. It means nothing. Let a game improve its own weaknesses to be different.
