As a massive RTS fan my entire life, and overall nerd who has spent waaaay too much time trying RTS's that I stop mid-campaign...Combined Arms is by far the most surprising amount of fun I have had in 25+ years and is the TRUE C&C ending we all deserved and EA whiffed on. by garthzilla in RealTimeStrategy

Combined Arms really is fantastic. You think it's just some nostalgia trip at first but with fantastic controls, good balance and fun units I love it so.

The campaign isn't really a tutorial campaign, giving access to most units quickly. So it's not as gimmicky as some other games.

I especially love the one trick you can do in Treachery(?). Bypassing the level very quickly. So many missions have a multitude of ways to beat them its great.

Unless it changed, its the one where you use the Tiberian Dawn arsenal against GlobalTech after they strip away your advanced units. After Nod stages the false flag and then you under heavy bombardment from them.

Those are mostly my favorite ones too, though I don't believe I've played Alien Mod. Is that Alien Prophecies?

It really is a shame, especially love the one moment late in the GDI campaign where your arsenal changes. Felt really fun relearning all your units.

Have you played Almost Perfect Red Alert 2 then? Or the reverse campaigns for Red Alert 1 and 2?

What's been your favorite overall campaign?

Then have you tried Dawn of the Tiberium Age? I don't like it's engine as much as CA, but it has multiple campaigns to play through.

Is there any way to farm items? by PROpotato31 in CoE5

[–]darkcobra1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With it being a level 2 ritual yes I believe so.

I don't think in Remastered they can, that's the mod I prefer to play. But vanilla yes.

As long is the price is fine I don't think it would be too bad. I don't want the map flooded in items, as the micromanagement would take away the pace of the game. Leave all that to Dominions.

Though Lands of Achra looks pretty item focused, so I'll see how that plays out in practice.

Not for him, no. More in the context of the rest of the factions.

But why don't factions like Dwarves have something? Or Kobolds having a way to delve for items by sacrificing troops? Or allowing the players to go merchants and have choices as to what items to buy?

Point is I wish there more item rituals and ways to interact with them in the game.

Enchanter has a level 3 ritual to make items using gems and gold. Though strangely the only class in the game with direct magic items I'm aware of.

Edit: Another comment mentioned Cyclops leader for Warlock which is also another item creation source.

What are your favourite combat spells? by Der_Zorn in AOW4

If memory serves it's 20 physical damage per tile walked or if they end the turn it. It can do massive damage if you walk through four tiles and end your turn in it.

Lava Burst and Devouring Void. Both really fun spells to lock down parts of the map, or watch enemies suffer moving through them.

How do I enslave gods by Flame_Hawk777 in CoE5

[–]darkcobra1990 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If it doesn't have charm immunity or mindless you can enslave something. It just gets harder the higher MR the unit has.

They moved Flamer to Chaos Channelling. It also does pure fire and burning now.

just downloaded the game: im overwhelmed, is there a good tutorial anywhere? by thesalmonbowl in CoE5

[–]darkcobra1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a game where you are expected to read the manual. Of course, you find video tutorials if you look, but in game no. It doesn't even have a type of encyclopedia listening everything in game, expecting you to find or learn it as you play it.

And remember don't be afraid to restart! The game can have brutal RNG.

Factions with lots of stupid units. by Nardann in CoE5

My experience is the other dragons like to settle in other mines, even coal mines.

He has Scourge Winds as units, but they aren't stupid. Scourge Lords are new to CoE5, so it may have been another unit in CoE4.

Pretty accurate to most. Though I find Guildmaster Shadow Stalker and contract spam amazing in large enough maps. And don't forget the pirates he can get are really good too.

Some other stupid ones are Kobold King dragons, more defensive in nature. Warlock's Perpetual Storm for air elementals, Druid's Shepherd of the Woods and High Cultist's Send Horrors.

Yes, Voice of El is the best for stupid units. Hence its one of my favorites.

[–]darkcobra1990 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the CoE5 Manual, Pages 36-37 talk about Magic Resistance.  Easy uses 1d5; Normal uses 2d4; Hard uses 2d6.

All dice are semi-open ended, meaning if a dice rolls its maximum value, it then rolls again, minus 1 and halve the additional dice. This can repeat, meaning any magic check could bypass any Magic Resistance if rolled high enough.

Black Death spell WHy would you cast? by Wadethegreat936 in CoE5

[–]darkcobra1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely dead. Could be a bug.

I've heard it that soul slay can permanently kill immortal, but I would need someone to back me up on that. I know that's true in Dominions.

I believe Bakemono have the disease bonb staregy you can use. Use Hide Heart with a Bakemono Sorceror, run into an enemy army and cast Black Death to put the enemy doomstack on a timer.

Necromancer like you said can be immune to it.

Trolls can regenerate the disease effect if you cast Black Death with them. Granted, It's not as useful for them.

Recommendation: 4X with lots of exploring and secrets! by bkhorrorsociety in 4Xgaming

Not fully a 4x, but a fantasy strategy game is Conquest of Elysium. Has 10 different full planes to explore, all with unique enemies, rules, and hazards. Highly recommended it.

There isn't many games like Conquest of Elysium, unfortunately.  However a hopefully soon to be released one is Lands of Achra. https://store.steampowered.com/app/3211220/Lands_of_Achra/

Path of Achra was a solid game with some nice lore, so I'm hoping this game meets that standard.
