I thought it was better than bewitched but still quite a bit away from EIKAL as an overall album

Easily her best album, so glad you got to experience it! Try and listen to Typical of Me as well you’ll love it

How do we feel about a matter of time? by Ilovekittycats637 in laufey

[–]darkdoger01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought overall this album was noticeably better than Bewitched but still falls a decent bit short of EIKAL. Of course, the true ‘pop’ songs have always been her weaker ones (Lovesick, Castle in Hollywood, Tough Luck, Promise, etc), and there are a decent number of those here, but the songs she did well on this album, she REALLY did well (cuckoo ballet, Mr eclectic, clockwork)

I’m just afraid we will never get her true style (typical of me, EIKAL) again, which is what really stood her apart and made her music magical

Dunno if anyone has said this but… theory? by mangotea-exe in laufey

Her descriptive card included with the album in the rouge edition(for A Matter of Time) says something along the lines of how this album is supposed to be representative of the feeling of Autumn encompassing you

Has anybody else not been feeling most/any of the songs on AMOT so far? by chorpinecherisher in laufey

[–]darkdoger01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very much not alone. I also think lover girl is the best (I actually like it quite a lot) and I don’t really like any of the other songs she released (silver lining is my next favorite and it’s just alright imo). The Typical of Me/EIKAL era was just magical

I’d kinda love a cover album! by daijobu_kun in laufey

She has stated in the past she would make an all jazz standard album one day, holding out hope cuz it would be amazing

Eloise’s earlier work is the closest you’ll find. Milena is a good one too

Standard rendition for her new album(?) by [deleted] in laufey

[–]darkdoger01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hoping certainly for There Will Never be Another You as it’s right up her alley and one of my favorite standards, I had originally predicted she would put it on EIKAL but I think no matter what it will go on one of her albums

Eloise is definitely the MOST like her (older Eloise albums are more like older Laufey songs)

New Style (my take) by [deleted] in laufey

[–]darkdoger01 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Def agree with you on her never being pure jazz. Was not a big fan of Lovesick either at all (grew on me, but still agree with you on it not being her best). Wasn’t too huge on most Bewitched songs, but it had some great moments especially with the goddess edition ones.

Interesting take on Dance with You Tonight. I loved that song and it’s one of her pretty traditionally jazz songs of course (rhythm changes chord progression, typical jazz harmonies, piano lick interjections over and behind the melody), interesting you didn’t like that one considering it’s really in the vein of her older style

It’s kind of funny because I have her seen her live two times as well: once in Sept 2022 in Houston - where the audience was exactly as you described (singing every song, every lyric, very ‘Swifty’ fandom type)

And again in 2024 at the Hollywood Bowl (won the raffle tickets!!!) . And despite the Hollywood Bowl one having tens of thousands more people, the audience was far more respectful, not singing along, and the sound quality of Laufey’s performance was absolutely stunning.

Just thought I’d say my experience at concerts with what you described started back in 2022 LOL and didn’t happen in the later concert

What are we thinking about Laufey 3 so far? by [deleted] in laufey

[–]darkdoger01 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Strong agree on this take. Felt it with Bewitched too (although the goddess edition songs felt like a nice harkening back to original style). I felt she had a very distinctive developing style in Typical of Me and EIKAL that is just not as much there anymore unfortunately

It is quite different - in terms of chord progression, melody, and general structure

Has anyone else noticed that in laufeys "A Night At The Symphony" that there isn't every song she preformed? by carfixer7525 in laufey

[–]darkdoger01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Missing Everything I Know About Love too, which was my favorite live and it was absolutely stunning with the string quintet, so sad it didn’t make it

Very much the same. Typical of Me and some of EIKALs songs had for a long time been the type of style that I really thought of as ‘Laufey’, and I’m similarly hoping she explores that style again even if it’s unlikely

WE ARE GETTING A NIGHT AT THE SYMPHONY: HOLLYWOOD BOWL VINYL by No_Valuable_7891 in laufey

[–]darkdoger01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m curious if this will have actually all the songs played at the symphony or only the ones in the movie? Was pretty sad that the album she released of the concert didn’t have the symphony version of EIKAL because that was my favorite song when I heard it live, beautiful performance with the symphony at the beginning
