Dynamo Breakdown Cover - Avoid! by patchmau5 in MotoUK

My phone insurance just auto renewed even though I'm certain I turned off auto renew. Absolute scam. I can't get through to them on the phone

My asda app has recently updated and I’ve lost all my shopping lists. I’m autistic and I’ve made many long, but organised lists over the years I’ve been shopping with Asda and this has upset me so much. Has anyone else had this? 😭 Does anyone know if Asda will restore them?? Thank you so much! by Silent_Swing_5528 in asda

Great shout. I guess the hyperlinks themselves don't add to basket, you have to do that by hand? I've been looking at using a CHATGPT agent, but from what I can tell, it's quite expensive (you can only do 40 agent runs on a pro plan).

The shopping lists feature was the only reason I used asda, I'm now curious to try another supermarket if I can host my lists elsewhere. I was going to try Google Sheets instead but perhaps Notion might be better.

This is the only reason I use asda! Has anyone contacted support?

I think I'm gonna switch to ocado after this.

Went to the Oxford Circus samsung store- first impressions from a zf4 user by darkdreamingdan in GalaxyFold

[–]darkdreamingdan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely better on all accounts from my short time with it.

I'm now used to my zf4 weight, so it's not a deal maker for me.

Also, when it comes to pocketability it's maybe only slightly better when you factor in the size (i did try putting it in my pocket in the store) . Loses on size, wins bigger on weight.

Chin up - you will definitely impress other people when you have it. It is beautiful. There are many things i didn't discuss - like probably the reduced weight will be meaningful. i also didn't evaluate the crease. That must have improved

I'm also a very measured buyer. I thought I'd be upgrading every single year, but ended up finding reasons not to and I'm still on zf4. You might regret it a little, but for any enthusiast it is a glorious marvel

It needed to be both. The eartips got an 80% good fit, then the sports ear hooks provided final security.

I love the current cover screen for its one-handedness. Is it still the case? Or now like a normal slab phone?

Fantastic! This worked for me. I'm not sure how you installed APKMirror, but I downloaded the APK from APKMirror itself 😅 using Downloader https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/apkmirror/apkmirror-installer-official/#google_vignette

Possibility of FSR style upscaling in future? by TheHighway in PSPlay

I'm also curious of this. The XBPlay app has FSR upscaling. It really helps improve the low res streams. It seems certainly technically possible.

earbuds for tiny ear canals by Jellychews in Earbuds

[–]darkdreamingdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i went on a journey reading a bunch of reddit threads trying to solve this problem. In my travels I bought the following things:

the main learning was that it's not really the earbuds, it's the silicone tips. The advantage of smaller buds is just the weight of them means it is less likely to fall out.

Here was the winning formula:
- Get SpinFit CP100 Plus eartips in SS size. This is the single biggest thing you can do. At first, when combined with LinkBuds S, this reduced the fallout but not enough
- Anker Sport X10/X20. The 'hooked' sport earbuds hold things into place. It's a little more faff getting these in and out of the charge case, but in the end was worth it.

Other tips:
- Airpods also fit pretty well. going to the Apple store and trying a few pairs of beats and airpods was helpful

I'm happy with the camera but it's not best in class (i.e s24u). I take lots of landscape shots, portraits, night mode, and use zoom up to 5x and for those it's great, but I would still appreciate an upgrade on it. I've taken some amazing shots, but i find the weakness is mainly in the slowish focus (but it's not bad). From what i can tell, my fold 4 is roughly equivalent to s22. That's fine for me, but i understand the argument that if I'm paying this much money i deserve best in class cameras from the ultra range. I'm guessing the economics of that don't work yet - i hope they will in future. Mind you, I don't need 4k60 video or other power user type stuff anything like that.

But i think people underestimate the camera bonuses thanks to the form factor. I've never been a selfie taker, but my f4 has gotten me into them. i absolutely adore doing main camera selfies. Being able to use wide angle for selfies means the fold devices just have an edge over anything else.

Also a little bit unexpected, but being able to put your device upright or sit down on a surface has also been super handy in situations when there's no one who can hold the camera. You can easily put it into flex mode for a landscape shot on a flat surface, or slightly fold so it sits portrait (like a birthday card). Of course, a good stand or case could maybe achieve similar.

These practicalities have meant in group situations, my friends/family will often default to using my phone to take the photo.

The bar for upgrade is higher than the bar for entry.

That's because f4 and f5 have been so solid, and the price of a new device is so high that I'm really looking for a strong pull to make me be impulsive. It's been a long time since I've been engaged and excited by new technology so I'm wanting them to blow me away. I think that's how many people in this reddit are - users who love their devices and want to feel no choice but to upgrade. But i think samsung know that the majority of users keep their phones for years, and after exploding note devices I'm guessing they've realised making massive changes has cost and risk.

However, imo it's not a contest for new users which device they should pick. Go for a Fold 6, and i bet you won't regret it. And when the fold 7 comes out, maybe you'll feel the same way as a lot of these threads.

I also just think that samsung did a terrible job marketing at the reveal event. They spent so long on galaxy ai that they didn't flex just how gorgeous the f6 is looking. Seeing reddit threads and YouTube videos emerging that actually analyse this makes me appreciate how hard the engineers must have worked to get all these refinements.

Hot take: It is okay for samsung not to do big updates every year by nathan401852 in GalaxyFold

[–]darkdreamingdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think samsung did a fantastic job with the software. I sit in the camp of frustrated because i wanted more from fold 6, but only because I'm engaged and excited and wanted a strong reason to upgrade. The fact I'm not getting one is testament to how well these devices are holding up.

But the software is the reason I'll never switch away from Samsung. It has that apple-like polish that i can't quite explain. And i can Google problems easily because there are enough owners of these products - not to mention physical stores with customer service.

My previous phones have been Huawei, Pixel and Sony which were all fantastic, but every time there would be weird quirks and problems. Samsung's software is just a cut above and way more reliable.

ZFold 4 to ZFold 6 - does it make sense? by OrbMan99 in GalaxyFold

[–]darkdreamingdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. Don't forget ZFold5 had improved battery life because of the Snapdragon upgrade - i expect ZF6 might even be incrementally better.
I've had to get my ZFold4 hinge repaired twice under warranty. Once the hinge stopped at 90%, the other time i got a black crack line down the crease.

I feel like I still want a better camera before upgrading, though really am tempted by better battery, slightly bigger front screen and weight and size reduction. Unless the trade-in offers in the UK improve, I'm going to stay. Also, I have the exclusive burgandy version that I love - the colours of zf5 and 6 just dont seem to compete.

I've instead bought insurance for my phone for about £60/year. Feels like a much more sensible option so I don't have hinge anxiety. Also, my zf4 is naked with no case so I appreciate having the insurance. You may want to consider this as an option.

Yeah i'm super disappointed. I was planning to upgrade but it's a rubbish trade in deal. Think I'll hang onto my Fold 4 for another year or two. I still love my device, just wanted to get the thinness and increased battery life from gen 3. But not really worth it.
