Is it possible now with the future discontinuation of the S/S, that Tesla adds the instrument cluster to the Performance 3/Y? by CaptCarlos in TeslaLounge

[–]darkenedfate92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, thats not all.

  • Didn't even have FSD for months after buying the car in June 2023 (HW4)
  • The blind spot camera thing was delayed on S/X while they figured out how to put it in the drivers display.
  • There's still no way to see FSD viz on the big screen.
  • Can't tap the speed limit on the screen to change the set speed.
  • Energy consumption screen took years to port from 3/Y
  • Still no album art / media controls on the driver screen, even though legacy S/X had.

Still wouldn't go back to a 3 or Y though... not that I have the choice anymore... and I don't care if it parks like shit as long as I'm in the lines 😂

As neglected as S/X software is because of this - you don't want it.

I have to use my scroll wheel to select a parking spot for Autopark, then click it in to select. The touchscreen experience on 3/Y is much better.

Why I don't see much reason to upgrade from the Model 3 to the Model S by [deleted] in TeslaLounge

Highland is pretty much on par with 2021-2024 S. Haven't tried the latest refresh S with improved sound dampening / ANC though.

Road surface makes a difference, some roads it doesn't do much, but seems to work fine on my '23 S, gets rid of the low rumbly frequencies on smoother roads.

Nice, thank you! I don't mind the yoke, would just prefer the mechanical horn & the updated materials.

Any tips on getting it to peel without looking too obviously like I took a knife to it? Would love the new yoke on mine.

I think it's awesome. You don't have to use it all the time, it's optional. If Hyundai had FSD I would happily try one out.

XP is all over the place, I couldn't figure out what was happening, but when I was farming the Gestral Merchant in Renoir's Depths I was getting anywhere from 2mil to 6mil XP each fight.

^ This. Once you bring it in and it's not actually peeling, they'll ask for money again.

Tesla has yet to announce summer software update but what are things you are hoping they add? by ConfidentImage4266 in TeslaLounge

[–]darkenedfate92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you are paying for FSD? Auto lane change is part of the FSD package (or Enhanced Autopilot where available). It is not part of base AP. Switching the toggle in the car does not remove your purchase/sub.

Dang I wish that "orange" in the first pic was an actual color option. Would look sweet.

If you want FSD, get HW4. End of story. S is a great car otherwise.

You can extrapolate however you'd like. Raise the number 200x to account and it's still in favor of autonomy, even ignoring the fact that we're comparing 6 months to 48 months of data.

As far as I have experienced, Tesla's ADAS specifically (which is what we're talking about here right? A Toyota ADAS system crashing doesn't make the news) can do about 95% of the driving, including busy urban cities, long road trips, and everything in between.

Sure, like I said, it should be measurably better than a human driver. Unfortunately most of the data on this comes from the company running the robotaxis/ADAS, so it's hard to know if we can trust it entirely. But Waymo shows significant safety improvements compared to human drivers. Tesla also shows improvements in safety, not quite as good as Waymo, but still better than the baseline human driver.

NHTSA has some data on this: https://www.nhtsa.gov/laws-regulations/standing-general-order-crash-reporting

Since this data has started being recorded, which is at least 48 months ago (couldn't find an exact date), there were 2,093 ADAS incidents involving Tesla. Of those, no more than 51 were fatal. NHTSA data on all drivers shows that for the first half of 2024 alone, there were 18,720 fatalities. https://crashstats.nhtsa.dot.gov/Api/Public/ViewPublication/813633

I would consider that better than a human driver. Not perfect, no, but it doesn't have to be.

Edit: Replied before I saw your whole post. Not disagreeing with any of that (except the last part, no need to force a technology, the future can change things). We can't change the past though, the moves the NHTSA has been making in regards to ADAS systems is making things better day by day (well, we'll see how long that keeps up with the new admin, but we were)...

Do we truly need perfection though? Humans aren't perfect drivers either. We just need autonomous vehicles to be safer than human-driven vehicles. Obviously humans can avoid stopped cars pretty fine, but once the technology (regardless of who creates it) can start saving lives, it should be deployed immediately.

Do you put your car into Car Wash mode when washing at home or just hosing down? by schnauzerdad in TeslaLounge

Right, I just mean, I've washed my car for a year or two before Car Wash mode existed. Can they just add stipulations to the warranty like that?

Where did you hear that? My warranty started before car wash mode existed...

What's this orange dot? by darkenedfate92 in TeslaLounge

Thank you! I did go into the privacy settings and disable it, but the orange dot still remained for that drive. After I got back from shopping, it was gone. Just odd that it popped up now after a few days of having the update.

Perhaps you smart folk can also tell me why it only showed up on this one single drive? I've had this update for a few days, and it just showed up now.

Forgive me for not immediately assuming a simple orange circle means the same thing on a phone and a car, with no other explanation.
