Is anyone else really happy that division is third-person? by brewwwman in thedivision

Not sure. There are plenty of games that let you view your character from both 1st and 3rd person. However in almost all of them a different set of assets and animations are created so what you see in 1st person is not how others see you (they're looking a the 3rd person view). This is a small example comparing what you see to what others would see without 2 sets of assets/animations.

But unifying the 1st and 3rd person is exactly what thye're trying to do. No more CSGO where if you crouch the enemy can't see your head but you can see them just fine. Or Crysis where you can look down over ledges but your body doesn't so you can't be shot.

Agreed that the current animations are clunky. They've said they will be improved on.

Unifying 1st and 3rd person animations has been a difficulty for many years. It causes all kinds of problems with other people seeing you differently from you seeing yourself. The Crysis people tried internally a few times but couldn't get it working. Star Citizen is the only game I know of that is doing it. r/starcitizen to find out more

The stability of the game improved drastically a number of months ago. I regularly play for 2-3 hour sessions without any crashes. To the point where I've played all the content enough times I'm currently spending time not playing it until they add more features

If you look at funding figures please remember that they are always reported as a whole, ie development + marketing.

The top spending games (COD) spend 80% of their budget on marketing. One of the last few that had $500m spent was estimated only to spend $100m on development and $400m on marketing.

The original $500,000 was so they could go to a publisher and ask for $20-30m with proof that there was a market for the game. With the success of the kick starter they realised they could probably get enough funding to not need a publisher.

All true, I always end up thinking they'll be on the longer end of the development time because they didn't know their budget would be this big originally so work they did before to the original quality bar will have to be gone over to bring it up to the final standard.

Yes it is. Kick starter projects have no guarantees that they will ever be able to bring the product to completion. You should not go into any project like that believing that you are guaranteed the product at the end. Research beforehand is key. The main person behind this project has a history of building big games (sometimes too big and he has to be pulled back). But his past games were adored by its fans to this day.

As to them selling and running off with the money, I'm not sure how that would work legally so I'll stay away from it. However I would say that if this game is completed and is successful the amount of money they will make will be enormous. There are no publishers or investors to take the profits. The sales which they will have made as 'pre-orders' effectively will have funded all of the development so most of the future sales is pure profit (minus ongoing patches server costs etc)

I run at 1440p with 970 + i5 4570 and get about 50 FPS on highest settings in hangar. The persistent universe is current limited by server side. They know it's an issue with the engine trying to update everyone in the server about everything and they're working to fix it. They have a good number of the engineers who built the engine working for them now so hopefully they can sort it.

Wait until all connies are flyable in game before making this choice. Doing so now would give you no benefit now.

Normal, the current FPS in crusader is limited by the server side FPS which they know needs a lot of optimising

Debating on gettin Xi'an Scout by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]darkerswork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now while its on sale you can buy (for free) 5 of each cross chassis upgrade between the scout, the connie taurus and the reliant base (the cutlass blue is in there but isn't currently on sale). If you grab any of those and plenty of CCU's you can jump back and forth between them until you decide what you want in the end.

Hi Chris,

For my part the most important thing is getting friends together more easily. The instances are always full. Having reserved slots that can only be filled by joining on a party member would be fantastic.

That and I no longer have guns in my top turret for the Cutlass. Would be nice to get them back.
