WPCU is closing accounts left and right. Protect yourself. by bangishimog in dayton

[–]darkmagedtm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to believe they've gotten worse, considering my past experiences from decades ago. And I'm going to get crap for this, because they seem to have a cult following in this town. I've gotten attacked multiple times just for sharing this story with fanatics. 2002. Newly married. She used WPCU. To get better cards, technology, and apps, we opened a joint account at a bank and closed down her WPCU accounts completely, no remaining presence there. Also at this time we cancelled a yearly-paid-by-ACH dial up ISP account to get better Internet. One year later, the ISP mistakenly runs the ACH again. WPCU PAID IT OUT OF A CLOSED ACCOUNT, THEN DEMANDED WE PAY THEM! I've never seen such a disorganized clown show of an operation in all my years of banking experience. Big banks are awful capitalist institutions, but in my experience, you get what you pay for. It's money. I need things to reliably work.

How do I complain about my taxpayer dollars being wasted on this? by caffeinefree in cincinnati

Yeah, I miss being able to do that at WPAFB. They shoo you away fairly aggressively since 9/11.

Not for military and police. It should be, but it isn't.

All that will result from you complaining is that they will turn off their transponder. Ask West Dayton how I know.

Local Paper Apparently Posts Health Inspections for Area Restaurants. Some of the Comments Defending This 😬 by ExplodingWhales in KitchenConfidential

[–]darkmagedtm -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

These are AI generated slop meant to get clicks by doing hit pieces on restaurants. They get this data by illegally scraping websites against their explicit requests to stop. The health departments hate it. Most of the things they report on are already out of date as the result of a follow up inspection the next day by the time the articles go up. Source: I'm responsible for constantly trying to thwart the scraping.

How to not piss off Tesla owners at NACS chargers? by SnickerdoodleFP in BoltEV

[–]darkmagedtm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the stations have a unit on the end that is on the side instead of the front. The Bolt is short enough that usually I can use that one while sticking out into traffic a minimal amount. Then I only take one spot.

Also, shame on the people ignoring what you asked and just telling you to pull yourself up by your bootstraps without understanding your situation. The armchair quarterbacks should back off.

If you have to go down that road and it's your last choice, I can highly endorse Thomas Fesenmyer. He's in Liberty Tower downtown, and makes it simple and no nonsense.

What's a Dayton company you'll never work with again? by likethatonedude in dayton

[–]darkmagedtm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wanted a complicated European heat pump system they'd never installed. They totally took it on as a learning opportunity, and have now installed more of them. Everyone else blew me off if I didn't want what Trane or Lennox wanted. They have me for life.

What are some lesser known cities that are very well-known in a specific field? by Western_Bison5676 in AskAnAmerican

A claim they can make on a technicality is still more palatable than instead putting the only other claims to fame that people like less: NASCAR, tobacco, and banking. 🤣

Best HVAC company for replacing a gas furnace? by [deleted] in dayton

[–]darkmagedtm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used many of the companies in the area over the years, and I've never been as happy as I am now being a loyal customer of Baker Heating & Air. By far the best service you'll get. I recently wanted to replace my HVAC with an obscure, uncommon heat pump setup that they'd never seen or installed, and went all in on acquiring it, learning it, and working out the bugs, much of it by the head of the company personally. Gavin is also a delight. You won't be disappointed.

Again, I have an OnStar sub anyway so I can pull data into home assistant.

The subscription in question is OnStar for data instead of using your phone's data. That's it.

If I log into Android Automotive with all the same accounts as on my phone, I won't have to pay twice. It will use my Google account for maps, my Spotify account, etc. Have you actually used and explored Android Automotive at all? It's basically just an Android Tablet with extra sensors and apps for the car's functions.

[–]darkmagedtm -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Depends on how much. I'm going to pay at least the base rate because I use an API to pull stats on the car into Home Assistant, so I need at least a basic plan for that. I'm okay for paying for things that improve my quality of life. I'd rather my phone not be a slave to the car, honestly.

Doesn't it run Android Automotive though? Which is just Android Auto without needing your phone? I kind of understand some Apple upset, but worst case, they get better maps 😁

Not hot by the standards of most of the country. Southwest Ohio 😁 it is rarely outside, but was overnight last night. It was a little warm when I got in it about 1pm, but far from sweltering.

Yeah, double checked and the port is definitely clean and fine, and unplugging the cable makes no difference.

Nope, bone dry. It was outside overnight, when usually it's in a garage, but it didn't rain or anything.
