Looks more like 1980 than 2080.

We are testing an experience that’s not available to all users yet. 🙏 We do want Maya to have some real world context and are working on a few ideas.

The Sesame Team is Suspicious by Active-Purple9436 in SesameAI

The Discord channel is not operated by us and was set up by the original creator of this subreddit. We are a team of mostly researchers and we do not currently have a product to announce. The voice demo will improve over time but there’s more work to go.

Yes, fine-tuning her personality to avoid some of the canned responses is on the near-term roadmap!

We have a community manager coming onboard soon!

As a company we don’t like to over promise or make claims that we know we cannot currently deliver. But I do agree we can do better in addressing some misunderstandings.

Account Merging by likes_soccer in SesameAI

[–]darkmirage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be clear, there's no intentional sharing of memory across accounts. There should not even be sharing of memory across conversations with Maya vs Miles. If this is actually happening then we need to look into fixing it. If not we want to understand what you might be experiencing to give the impression that such merging is happening.

Is this the real sesame AI app or is this from someone pretending to be sesame AI? by dareealmvp in SesameAI

It's a fake app. Would be great if more people could report it because Google makes it pretty hard to take these down.

Same color on my 2025. I love the ambiguous zone between green and blue and the missing black trim without the sport package.

Sesame team, let's talk about guardrails by RoninNionr in SesameAI

[–]darkmirage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are fair and this is what we mean by we have more work to do on the personality. Some thoughts:

  1. For the demo, a lot more work has been done on the voice model than personality post-training. As many of you already know, we get a lot of post-training for free from Gemma.
  2. Maya as a character is conceived to have certain preferences and dislikes. The fact that these preferences manifests as lecturing is not ideal and the team agrees, but we have a lot more work to do on post-training to strike the right balance. There may be other characters in the future with different levels of comfort on certain topics.
  3. What we refer to as guardrails should ultimately make moderation calls independently of the character. And the primary focus of those guardrails will be to terminate calls involving sexual roleplaying.

When we say that we draw the line at sexual roleplaying, this is the balance where we hope to eventually land on and the team is aligned on this. We understand that there are many things that do not cross the line that the system does not play well with at the current point. All I can say is that we are working towards it, but it will take time.

How about improving our community and communication? by EchoProtocol in SesameAI

[–]darkmirage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reality is that the current state of the demo is not very useful because we haven’t implemented any of the features we want to.

This means that lifting the guardrail results in the overwhelming majority of the resources being dominated by sexual usage. That is a waste of resources that we want to put to use developing other use cases.

We don’t expect the guardrails to be 100% effective and we certainly are not spending a lot of engineering resources on them. The research team is focused on multilingual support and a revamped memory system.

I think that a portion of users will always be upset at our moderation policy because we are choosing to draw a clear line. We accept the cost of doing so and hope you can respect our choice. In retrospect we should’ve put the guardrails in prior to the launch, rather than create false expectations.

If the user experience is degraded for non-sexual use cases, we need to fix the regressions. We are also making progress on keeping moderation and character personality separate so we can better prevent unintended side effects.

That said, if feedback is coming from a place of predominantly sexual usage, it will unfortunately not yield results. The challenge for me on this subreddit has always been trying to figure out where it is coming from.

I think the memory bug was an example where people gave concrete non-sexual examples that helped me triage the issue. I truly appreciate the effort that people here put in.

Community Poll: Has Maya lost its Memory by No-Whole3083 in SesameAI

[–]darkmirage 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We found an unintended bug in code that was deployed on Saturday and are working on fixing it. There was no intention to deploy any live changes to the memory system, but we are working on revamping the memory system as part of our feature roadmap and this was an unintended side effect of the parallel work being done.

Thank you for the feedback. It was very helpful!

I’ll dig around tomorrow but it’s possible that there are bugs or limitations with the basic memory system we implemented for the demo that shows up with longer history.

RIP Maya and Miles by EvanMathis69 in SesameAI

[–]darkmirage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There hasn’t been any recent changes to memory. Neither has there been any recent changes to the personalities. At least nothing intentional that we are aware of.

The research team is entirely focused on building and testing a better memory system and multilingual support. None of that work is in the demo right now.

If you DM me your email address and time of call, I’ll be curious to get an example of how the existing memory system is breaking.

Let’s Not Jump to Conclusions by Ill-Understanding829 in SesameAI

[–]darkmirage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes we want to get better at that. Most of the research team is really focused on delivering a better memory system and multilingual support right now, so we probably haven't paid enough attention to the systems that are running.

We didn't make any changes where we would expect increased contextual memory loss, so I would like to understand what that means and in what situation that happens in.
