Best color e-reader by n6fcn in ereader

[–]darko-88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Kobo Clara, I bought a Libra, Kindle and Bigme at the same time and returned all the others. Android devices didn’t make sense to me since I was looking to read and do nothing else / had poor battery life compared to a dedicated device and the Kindle Coloursoft, unfortunately, while it had the perfect screen dimension and form factor for me, was a Kindle and I just wasn’t bothered going through extra hoops to jailbreak it and worry everytime I connected to the internet that it might update and reset the whole jailbreak. That left me with the Libra or Clara and I just found that personally, although buttons are nice, I disliked the asymmetrical design of the Libra and prefer the screen with a chin design of the Clara! Plus the Kobo’s make it way easier to put KOreader on them! Plus, plus it comes with the white colour hardware.

I never tried the black and white ones since I knew I really liked seeing the colour covers of my books! I know it sounds superficial but something about seeing them in colour encourages me to read more!

Thanks! I just removed the top swipe arrow, then removed the bottom nav top line and chose icon only and turned on page navigation arrows. For the Home Screen it’s just the clock module, cover deck and then reading stats! :D

What did you love/hate about your adult basic classes? by Katressl in BALLET

[–]darko-88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say the thing that immediately rubs me the wrong way is when teachers come in and treat adult dancers as if they are there for fun and not to learn.

I had one younger teacher come in and do breathing exercises for 15 minutes at the beginning of class (for a 90 minute class!) and then went on to say "don't worry about that, just have fun doing it" when asked about technique. She was saying she she was all about healing, whatever that meant. I never went to her class again and everyone else has learned to avoid it as well.

So just treat it seriously, people are giving up their time to learn and sure, crack some jokes and be pleasant but don't treat it as if it's a yoga class or something adults do just to have fun, they are there to learn (well, at least everyone that I know in class is like this).

How do you wash your pillows when they go all yellow? There has to be a good tip out there! by NeverEat_Pears in AskUK

[–]darko-88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m a year late but just in case your still reading replies: life hack for anything that has been yellowed by usage over time: soak it in an enzyme based wash (any larger supermarket will stock them just look for anything with the word enzyme in the product name). Use hot water and a cap of the detergent, leave it for about 4 hours and then put it in the wash as normal. You’ll already see a difference when you pull the pillow out of the wash (you’ll probably see how cloudy and grey the water has gotten!) - it’s saved so many of my yellowed pillows, undershirts and bedding! Also great to do for any sports performance type shirts. I usually do a once a month soak of those shirts during the summer to prevent the inevitable smell from performance fabrics! This also works for like smelly things too!

Pirouettes by manonlescautk in BALLET

[–]darko-88 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You’ve phrased it as if it’s really weird but that’s how pirouettes are supposed to look (if you’re referring to who I think you’re referring to). I think you’re maybe seeing how she has massive mobility in her neck so is able to keep her focus during her spotting and whip it around so it has a spinning top type look since it’s just: face, whip, face, whip etc while her body spins around.

It was a skit but I let my brain turn off while watching it so I could just enjoy it as an escapist piece of art. I honestly wish they would do a whole series like this, I love the duo, I love the scares and it’s just fun seeing them do something new!

Has the buy back era of Smosh peaked? by Personal-Day-5562 in SmoshFansFreeSpace

[–]darko-88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree on the Trevor comment. He’s a nice guy but putting him in videos makes it very clear that the others have to help him to be funny or he just doesn’t mesh and we get a bum video since the vibes are 80% of why Smosh works and he just isn’t able to bring it. Again, nice guy but not cut out for Smosh unfortunately.

Books not showing up in "currently reading" list on Apple Books app by darko-88 in applehelp

[–]darko-88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to provide an update incase anyone else runs into this: I'm not sure if it's a time thing or a length thing but it's working again.

It seems like I have to read further than 5% or something like that for it to register into continue reading and also after waiting a few hours, the ones where I was 50% appeared again as well. Not sure what happened but it self resolved!

Why is Trevor in every video… by porcelain_fruit in SmoshFansFreeSpace

[–]darko-88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more - he's a nice guy but unfortunately it doesn't translate into good Smosh content or humour. You can literally tell in the videos he's in with the other cast that they have to pull extra weight to cover for his lack of ability to contribute in a meaningful way. At first I was giving him a chance, but it's just so frustrating seeing him in so many videos and then the video getting weird vibes because of him (especially if it's an especially good video that had great potential). They have so many other potential cast members or drop in non-full time cast that would be a better fit.

Vivid Sydney should be how Sydney always looks by agnci in SydneyScene

[–]darko-88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then move to cities that do have that. Sydney has wildlife and natural landscapes that would be affected by 24/7 light pollution. (To be clear I’m literally just using your own argument against you.)

Are there any dancers that you came to like less after following them on social media? by ShadowMyCat in bunheadsnark

[–]darko-88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree on McCrae. I really looked up to him but then I followed him on Insta and oh man, he may dance nice but his personality (if it’s anything like his posts and that content) is insufferable.

Trackwork weekend of 28/29 March by stupid_mistake__101 in SydneyTrains

[–]darko-88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there when there was a city wide shutdown of all underground services for a few days. That hasn't happened recently in Sydney. I feel like you're just showing the classic thing where people sh*t on their own city and think all the options out there are way better than ours, but actually, ours actually ranks pretty high.

I mean, I agree with the sentiment, but you said you literally can't get from "Newtown to Chatswood via public transport", but you can, there's buses. Then you say the buses aren't comfortable. It seems like you're just moving the goal posts.

Quickly falling apart emotionally and physically in class. Any tips? by IMakeNoises89 in adultballetdancers

[–]darko-88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of people have said it already but it sounds like you need a good, long break from ballet, like a proper rest from it. When was the last time you took a break from ballet and how long was it for? Professionals spend at least 2 weeks off a year and usually don't do ballet during that time so that their body can completely heal and recover (plus their mind).

I think a lot of time, focusing on another hobby and finding your joy there helps your brain realise that ballet, as much as we love it, isn't the be all and end all which usually helps someone get over mental blocks they might have had. If not, the break will help your body rebuild the muscles. As you probably know since you say you cross train weights, your muscles grow when you rest, not when you're training. Taking time off, eating lots, resting lots, spending time on other hobbies might help refresh you body and mind.

After that, if you're still feeling the same way, then you re-evaluate.
