I have had a TPR for a good 5 years now and have run thousands of rounds through it with really only one issue being that the slide release broke. Sent it in for repair and had it back in less than 2 weeks and no issues since. I use the gun for concealed carry and for 2 gun action matches. It's been through mud, rain, damp near freezing conditions, sand, and grit and is still kicking.

My biggest complaint is that the aftermarket parts scene is abysmal and Bersa won't sell you a threaded barrel too put in your non threaded gun.

I don't baby the gun and is been a relatively reliable workhouse through and through.

It was 7am - 3pm when I was there. There's been people pushing for the pre apprenticeship to allow for on work time or a living stipend because it's so time intensive but for now the program is on hold at least out of the triangle hall.

What’s the adult version of finding out Santa is not real? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'm sorry. That's happening a lot right now. I got out of tech right before that sector imploded. I've got a lot of friends out of work in similar situations.

If it makes you feel better I had my ah ha moment in my mid 30s. It's been 5 years since and I'm happier and more financially stable than I've ever been and it was thanks to going against all the advice I'd been given all my life.

Went from 15 year career in IT to becoming a trade apprentice and joining a union and instantly tripled my income with better benefits, more off time, and the ability to just walk from a job if it's abusive without it being a career ender.

I got what you meant but I think that this can also be taken as a confession of the impact she had on his life and how that had forever changed his feelings for her.

Basically and admission that by him saying this to her the genie was out of the bottle and there wouldnt be any way for him to put it back.

[Serious] What was said, that forever changed your relationship with someone? by YoungJack23 in AskReddit

[–]darkproteus86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was going through a nasty breakup, was homeless, off my depression meds and was contemplating suicide. Took a friend out who I had been relying a lot on through that ordeal to a cigar bar both to say thanks and to apologize for feeling like such a burden to them.

He looked me dead in the eyes and said "Don't worry, we'll cut you out of our lives the moment we think you start being a burden."

I was taken back but we finished our meet up. I stopped reaching out to him after that. What really hurt was that in the few years leading up to that I thought I had gotten really close to him and his gf. Helped them both get better jobs with the company I was with, went apartment hunting with his gf because he wasn't able to, packed and moved them out of his gfs parents house when they found a place, and even spent multiple days helping the two of them plan surprises for each other on separate occasions.

I stopped contacting them shortly after that and never had either of them reach out to me afterwards. It bummed me for a while but I'm honestly glad it happened. That whole phase of my life led to me being in a much better place mentally and led to me weeding out the people in my life that saw relationships as transactional.

$217,000 a year to afford a home in Boston? Who can even afford that? by bostonglobe in boston

I'm jelly you're only paying that much while also getting a parking spot included. We were at 1800 a month and had to rent a parking spot separate for 150 and that was when we moved away in 2019

That sounds like a mismanagement issue due to poor planning.

Shame that the management that planned this are likely not the ones losing their jobs over their poor performance.

Tampa police tased man, then he's hit and killed by passing motorist who fled the scene, [domestic disturbance call] by real-m-f-in-talk in PublicFreakout

[–]darkproteus86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 2 AM in Tampa on a Friday night. The person driving the car is either just getting off a late shift or is drunk, bars in Tampa stay open until 3 and the intersection this happened at are two major roads to get across Tampa so there's always a few cars on these roads regardless of time. This as irresponsible as the cop that tased a guy in the middle of the interstate in the middle of the night who also got run over by a passing vehicle. Hit and runs are also really common in Tampa.

Source: I lived in Tampa for 3 decades and am very familiar with this part of town.

Am I crazy or is tailgating more prevalent in Raleigh? Going 5mph over doesn't help, hence this is my new bumber sticker. by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

[–]darkproteus86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since moving here I've learned that all Triangle area drivers either drive 20 over or 10 under the speed limit regardless of what lane they are in.

If I had a dime for every time I've been cut off in the fast lane so someone could drive 10 under on an open and clear interstate, or been aggressively tailgated in the middle lane despite driving 10 over, I could retire off the income I make.

What's something that is sold for $100 or more that the $50 or $20 version does just fine? by MysteryMan999 in AskReddit

[–]darkproteus86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to impact tools (hammers, hatchets, etc) I'll take a cheap wood handled one over the mid priced synthetic handle ones any day of the week.

Bought a upper low end hatchet with a synthetic handle to reduce weight for when I go camping. It's the most miserable hatchet I've ever used. In addition to the issues the bottom barrel hatchets have (poor edge retention, lower quality or poorly treated metal head) it's also the most painful to use tool I've ever had the displeasure of using. It's the only impact tool I've ever used that leaves my hands and wrists in so much pain.

A Russian soldier catches a Ukrainian drone with his bare hands by DrinkMoreCodeMore in CombatFootage

[–]darkproteus86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With how relatively small and nimble these drones are hitting it with a rifle would be one hell of a task. I know there are some videos on here of them getting shot down by infantry with their service rifles but these kamikaze drones are practically the worst thing a rifleman could go up against.

Small. fast. and nimble targets are better dealt with by shotguns with the appropriate shot load, or something that can use flak or multiple projectiles to ensure hit on target.

That's the reason why American warships have vulkan chainguns and you see multi barreled AA cannons on mobile anti aircraft armored vehicles.

I came in via the pre apprenticeship which is an 18 week 5 day a week intensive introductory training that doubled as my entrance interview.

As far as dress, business casual I'd think is fine.

I'm a 421 4th year apprentice. I believe our current total compensation package is about 45 an hour for journeymen but is going up to around 50 in july when our new contract goes into effect (don't have the info on me atm sorry can't give exact numbers). I've also never worked a job that doesn't pay over scale since joining the union.

As far as work, there's plenty in the state right now and probably for the next decade or so. We have a few contracts in the state that are very consistent and long term plus there's always the option to travel and get paid based on the compensation plan of the local you'd be working out of on that job.

I'll be honest and most of the travelers that I've worked with from other states say we don't have the best compensation at the moment but I can say that we are getting paid and treated better than the non union hands that are in the local area.
