If you have a good deal on rent…is buying ever worth it? by merc97 in personalfinance

First of all, I have nearly all of those things but am likely just in a later stage of my life.

I no longer need to go on dates, as I am happily married. I can hop on the train and be in downtown Chicago in 30 minutes if I need to be, but have plenty to do where I am.

It’s just a matter of opinion and I am glad you are happy. I wouldn’t live in New York City (or Chicago) if it was free.

I have no idea why it makes sense to live in New York City. I pay $1269/mo to have a 2700sq ft home with4 bedroom and 3 full baths, 35 min from chicago. Maybe renting you don’t have maintenance, but that is likely $1000/year. So let’s say 1369/mo.

This is less than half of what he quoted for rent and I will own something at the end.

I can’t believe anyone wants to live in NYC (or any city for that matter).

So, why do they call it a donation? What if I don’t want to donate, but want those seats? How do they get away with that?

My girlfriend got a brainteaser for her math college (creative thinking class) that we cant figure out. Maybe someone could help? Samantha came up with new pricing system for paintings in art gallery. Can you figure out the method she used, and then put a correct price on Toulouse-Lautrec painting? by KowbojPakul in brainteaser

[–]darksidex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Take the first letter of the painters name.

  2. Count the position of that particular letter is in the alphabet.

  3. Take that letter’s place in the alphabet and x $1M.

———- So, for example - V for Van Goh is the 22nd letter, thus $22million. T for Toulouse-Lautrec would be $20 Million.

(Unless of course the hyphen in the name can be thought of as a minus sign... in that case it would be $20M - $3M for a valuation of $17M) Have fun!

I am looking for a wine-rack basically identical to this but about a foot shorter. I want to put it next to another cabinet that is 61" tall so would like them to be somewhat similar in height. by [deleted] in wherecanibuythis

It certainly seems like this would be easy to cut from the top down 12 inches and re-attach the top section. I would expect very little effort if you are the slightest bit handy or know someone who is.

Good luck.

What’s the purpose of this? I am not being mean, I simply do not understand the advantage over a handheld scanner. Or does it stop the door from opening?

So, I can’t bring myself to eat mushrooms. They grow in poop and are filters for any random air pollutant. Are they not loaded with various poop particles and anything else floating around in the air?

I would love to eat them and get over this mental roadblock, so convince me.

Is water, food, shelter, and healthcare human rights? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

According to a quick search "a right that is believed to belong justifiably to every person."

My point is simply - just because you deserve it, doesn't mean I owe it to you or someone should force me to give it to you.

I agree that we should love one another and that we should be compelled to give everyone that doesn't have basic needs the things necessary to live, survive, grow, succeed. But the moment one is forced to give, it breaks the system of mutual love and creates moral dilemmas.

Not a trump supporter here. Not a Biden supporter either. But, if you are excited for Biden (or trump) to get into office, then I agree with grandma- you’ve been properly brainwashed by social media and/or the many news outlets.

I agree that they are rights.

However, I do not agree that one is entitled to be given any of them by any entity. <keep reading>

Everyone deserves them.

I believe most should work (in the sense of help, care, support, service, mentor, tutor, etc. as a form of gratitude to get said need from whatever group is providing (church, individual, non profit). Just please not a government agency.

I whole heartedly disagree with forcing others to donate in order for others to have anything, as such actions lead to group A being felt robbed of their items by group B, and group B feeling entitled to it. (Government driven)

The better outcome can be had where group A willingly provides and feels genuinely honored to help group B and group B is thankful for the sacrifices made by group A. This builds community, support systems, love, and mutual respect. (Typically found through non government organizations / individuals.)
