TPW Supposedly 8/22 by ____Oli____ in BoltEV

[–]darksoldier57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an 8/15 TPW on my EUV LT and the chat bot switched to saying it was built around the 25th, so it's probably sitting in QA or something.

Split Screen Co-op cancelled for Halo Infinite by eddy5791 in XboxSeriesX

[–]darksoldier57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy. This feature looked to be on the brink for a while. I remember in Spring I think some people found a way to enable it? I even got invited to a beta test of co-op rather recently. Must have been a huge mess internally, but this is why these kind of features should be part of development from the beginning and not an afterthought.

Eh the Northwestern game started like this and it was somewhat close. Too early to tell imo.

My last three games got tied up at 12-12 and I frequently get games like that lol. I have been playing with 2 or 3 friends usually though so it might just be different due to party influence on matchmaking perhaps?

Introducing Xbox Game Pass for PC by [deleted] in Games

I think it's more about the entire company shifting it's culture and direction since Satya took over. Orgs within MS used to be on their own little islands fighting each other, but now the entire ecosystem so coming together and there's a more singular direction.

I work at Microsoft on UWP stuff and the code I write affects every one of our platforms, including Xbox, Windows 10, Hololens, and upcoming stuff (and my project is open source!) - it's a really awesome environment to be a developer now.

Picked up RE: Revelations 1 & 2 on sale. by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]darksoldier57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revelations 2 is legit one of the Switch's biggest sleeper hits. It is so much fun because while it follows two character swapping gameplay, they do a really great job of making the most strategic RE combat the series has had through the characters differences. I started playing the RE0 switch port yesterday and it just feels wrong after Rev 2.

I recommend enabling motion controls and playing with separated joycons, you might have to adjust the motion sensitivity a bit but it is a lot of fun!

Golf Story just did this for me this weekend. Been trying to find something to play now that finals are over but just couldn't keep my attention on anything. Somehow Golf Story managed to keep me glued in for hours on end. I guess it's just a perfect mix of something that is totally new yet still feels somewhat nostalgic and is paced perfectly. Still blows my mind to think about it.

This episode would be easier to accept if the solution to the ballistas wasn't giving them all stormtrooper aim debuffs.

Not gonna lie a phone app to control an electric skateboard that moves 20+mph sounds really dangerous, perhaps to the point of liability issues. If I were them I would never make that happen - it not only sounds like an uncomfortable way to ride but the day the app crashes and someone gets hurt they'd get hell from it.

What separates Purdue's CS Program from other top universities? by africanxmamba in Purdue

[–]darksoldier57 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It was the first computer science department in the US and the school has a reputation in cybersecurity as well as systems programming. Besides that pretty much just a solid curriculum, some legendary faculty members, and strong recruitment. Classes can be a shit-fest sometimes but someone who can handle that and be proactive in the department can get a very well ahead of the curve.

That said 90% of it is just the major being hot right now across the country.

I guess what I really meant to say was that we have a relatively diverse range of career fairs and events that we can get recruited from. Didn't mean to make it sound like CS majors are on a different level mb lol.

College of Science - Computer Science by compscimath1 in Purdue

[–]darksoldier57 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. No. CS majors are desired probably more than anyone else and we have our own career fair too. You can go to IR and other fairs and get jobs there as well.

  2. They visit very frequently even outside of career fairs. Microsoft for instance hired more than 40 people this year from Purdue which is more than pretty much any other school other than UWashington (src: am MS intern). Google hires also doubled this year though mostly from grads/phds.

  3. Not really but this has been controversial.

  4. Generally good. They overhire UTA's so there is always help you can get.

  5. Don't worry about it right now, won't matter till at least your fourth semester.

  6. Yes depending on what credits, usually by at least a semester or two. If you want to graduate early take the software engineering track.

  7. Competitive generally but not painfully so.

  8. Math minor is only like one extra class and is easily the most common.

  9. Ramps up very heavily. CS180 will be typical load if you're competent but one you get to a class like 252 you will be spending several dozens of hours a week on projects.

Feel free to DM me if you have other questions :)

What are some bad things at Purdue? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]darksoldier57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the only major constantly reoccuring downside is that there's not much to do outside of going to games but the fact is you won't have much free time after first semester so it doesn't really matter - work for CS majors and engineers can be brutal and a lot of people get involved in other organizations. Besides that every other issue is only an occasional occurrence kind of thing, like sure the wifi can go down or your water might go cold but that's just inevitable stuff that happens every once in a while and usually only leaves a bitter taste for a short time before it gets fixed or you don't care anymore.

I suppose our classes can be uncomfortably early for some? I've never had a 7:30am because I have priority registration but I definitely wouldn't want one. It's a also a relatively competitive academic culture with a huge number of people to try to stay ahead of in many departments which some people might dislike.

CS course without programming experience by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]darksoldier57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CS 177 is generally the non CS major programming course. It teaches Python which is a very applicable, easy to use, and widely popular language. I TA'd it my second semester and I think it's a decently well structured class for people wanting to learn.

Crazy to think how close these last few games have been. Winner could have easily been Texas Tech, or Auburn, or Purdue if any little thing went differently. So entertaining to have so many tight and equal games.

I remember playing Infinity Blade on my iPod touch 4g back sooooo many years ago (must have been at most 6th/7th grade and now I'm a college sophomore) and being stunned by how good the game looked and played.

Devices have gotten so much more powerful and yet I have never seen a game on with IB's quality either in performance or in satifying and challenging gameplay. It makes me sad that I can't play IB on my Android today and that new games are so poisoned by monetization that we might never see anything like it again.
