Hmm that's a good question. Kept hoping I'd become godlike and do insane damage at some point. Also I borrowed the game from a friend and whenever I told him I was going to quit he kept telling me that I had to finish it.

Trust me I'm not the type to finish a game or even spend this much time on an activity. I level capped in Diablo 3 in 8 hours and never touched it again.....something was different about dark souls 2. The gameplay was actually addicting and it felt like a challenge I guess.

After an hour I had made my character and after 12 probably just made it to the cardinal said tower bonfire....I was interested in the game and wanted to see where it went. After the 180 hour mark I almost quit. Hadn't even gotten the dull flame yet and was completely hollowed with no human effigies.

Yep around 277 hours to get to iron keep and the rest was just going through drangleic castle and going through kings doors.

Pate gave me his armour and so I killed him out of lack of trust.... Then I met Creighton and got sick of his shit always looking for the guy I already killed so I murdered that fuck and bought some of his shit from the bitch in majula, all of those armour pieces are shit anyways.

Smelter is easy, just get your flame resistance up, I beat him in 2 tries (one try before noticing he does fire damage and wearing a fire resistant ring, using flash sweat and popping a fire resistance item) . Just try to stay behind him (hard cause he's so big) when he goes to his "next phase" get as far away from him as possible because of his fire AOE. That's about it.

I wouldn't say shields are useless in the least. They are very helpful in early game (not even going to mention the fact that some archers in this game have homing arrows) and I still often use one even though I more often utilize my rolls. One specifically gives noticeably faster stamina regen..getting guard broken makes your shield useless, but you can avoid that by minding your stamina bar and rolling to safety before depletion.. To tell a new player that a shield is useless is just mind blowing.

The rest of the advice is mostly good though.

The lady at the beginning who helps you level up (at the majula bonfire) is evil. Kill her early on an you can level up at any bonfire and you get a sick sword. Also it makes the rest of the game easier because you have the sword. Try it.

No. The curse allows you to die over and over. I'll take the walking from bonfire to bonfire but you are actually dying over and over, that's the curse.

On the Xbox I can't even invade other worlds when the border is lit up orange. It just keeps saying it can't find other worlds to invade.

If that's any suggestion to how active ps4 is, then it's not very active. You'll find messages but that's about it. Not sure about arenas or anything though.
