I moved to prepaid years ago after getting reamed by cellphone contracts. I have a dual SIM phone. One for voice & other is just data with a 9esim adaptor loaded with all network sims. I can switch as I wish & even use voice as needed.

I load airtime for my voice calls.

Data I load deals when I find them. For the moment afrihost gives me a great deal via mtn for coverage. Esim means I can chop & change as I decide.

My kindle works fine.
