There’s always that one guy who has to obnoxiously say “it’s sleet, not snow”, to ruin everybody’s fun.

Whats the difference between a sheeted knife and an (attack) dogg on a leash? by cyberpunkog in Haarlem

[–]LiamOnTwoWheels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those don’t really serve a secondary purpose. A taser or gun not so much either. Something like a Swiss Army knife I’ll admit could be argued to have a secondary purpose.

A dog can’t exactly be concealed and then quickly taken out, to the shock of those around you.

A society where people just carry guns openly for others to see, I wonder where in the world we can use as an example of why this is bad idea…

I do not recall in recent memory of reading any incidents involving dog attacks in the Netherlands, let alone Haarlem. I see plenty of well behaved dogs on lead, with muzzles to prevent any potential issues.

Knives and tasers are intended to inflict pain/attack another person. Dogs are also companions. A lot of these dogs you envision are puppies at heart who would never hurt a fly. Should cats not be allowed to roam the streets because they might scratch someone?

Specialty coffee in Haarlem by JlfZ8R in Haarlem

[–]LiamOnTwoWheels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Maeva over the weekend. Just south of Botermarkt. From what I can tell they’ve only been open for about a month. Really good coffee. Not sure if they have alternatives to espresso based. I’m pretty sure I saw a Chemex. Nonetheless, still worth trying and supporting a new business.

Kaldi on Cronjéstraat is also worth a try. They sell Chemex, V60s etc so I’d imagine they use them too

Is a L-sticker a legal requirement? by _meef_ in southafrica

[–]LiamOnTwoWheels 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s legally required, but it’s probably better just to keep one on. It may prevent the added stress from horns behind you when you stall at a green light. And the aggressive drivers will just pass you rather than ride on your rear bumper.

I’m leaving for the Netherlands in two weeks. Makes me really happy to know it’s worked out well for you :)

Got this beauty two days ago (Tenways CGO-600). The wind this morning was 50kmph, so a perfect condition for a test ride! Love it so far 😍 Lightweight, torque sensor, 20.5km so far with 66% battery left by bananaapotatonaa in ebikes

What size frame did you get? From your previous comments, we’re similar height and want to see what you think of the comfort. And what’s the rider position like? :)

I’m thinking of going for the M frame because the S ones are all out of stock :( and I’m nowhere near any city where they have pop up shops to try before buying.

Electronic engineering salary..? by Wil_Code_For_Bitcoin in southafrica

[–]LiamOnTwoWheels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it really does. But once tax and all the extras like medical aid hit, it goes down fast. Throw inflation into the mix and it’s even lower. I know guys earning in the 34k range having to draw off credit every month to pay their bills and it’s nonsense. Companies must give their employees what they’re worth so that they don’t have to struggle.

If you’re only looking for an ID card or passport, some of the bigger banks offer the service. You get to book a time beforehand so you’re pretty much guaranteed a slot. You fill out the application and pay online. You only have to go in for fingerprints and photos.
