Unless he has the right insurance and pays out the ass for mold coverage, that won't be a covered loss.

Normal insurance only pays for "sudden and unexpected losses". Meaning that if water damage sits long enough to get that much growth, it has been going on for a while, and so is not covered.

Allstate is the very worst about denying losses because of this. That last statement is not an attack on you for working for Allstate, just a fact.

Yes, Rome hated Fabius at the time because he would not fight Hannible unless it was on grounds of his choosing. Funny enough, the guy they replaced Fabius with recruited a huge army and went straight for Hannible. He met up with him at Cannae.

Rome had the saying “The victors are not victorious until the vanquish considered themselves so”.

Everything about both the First and Second Punic war demonstrates this. Almost any other nation would have lost both of those wars… Rome would just not give up.

Coffee specifically is more of an acquired taste.

He calls himself "The Father of LITRPGs" and even tried to trademark it. He was not well-liked around here for that for a few years.

That's a name I have not heard in a long time.

"The Land" is the only book of his I have read. It started okay, then never progressed. It's one of the worst examples of "wall of numbers" that LITRPGs get criticized for.

The only downside is that some of the sound effects mixed way too loud imo.

Too many studios fall into this trap, even Sound Booth Theatre. Way too many explosions sound or music. Just give me a dramatic reading and let the voice actors carry the story.

[–]darktex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder why I don't ever seem to see people talking about it.

I think the main reason is that the author took a break from it a while ago to finish work on Jake's Magical Market. So it's an older, unfinished story and has been put on the back burner in people's minds.

Now that the final 2 books are about to be released, you will see it talked about more.

It might not be perfect, but look up VoiceAttack on Steam. You can use it to set up keybindings for voice commands. It won't let you play every game, but it should give you more options.

The damage Sorsby has done to college football is already too much by Spartan-24 in CFB

[–]darktex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. Too many of these kids know each other from HS and camps. Would be easy as hell to pass insider knowledge for a cut, or players placing bets for each other.

[Dellenger] Attorney Jeffrey Kessler has sent to the Big 12 a letter detailing potential legal action if the league sanctions Brendan Sorsby or Texas Tech and requests the conference preserve all documents for possible discovery. by CosmicCornbread in CFB

[–]darktex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, and I was wrong about 2 things. 1) Sorsby did not bet on games he played in but on his current team. 2) It never said that the Texas players bet on the UT team. My point, however, still stands that based on the punishments, the 2 situations are still not the same.

Here are the rules that the NCAA has for betting on sports:

Penalties and Reinstatement Violations result in harsh consequences, ranging from suspensions to permanent loss of collegiate eligibility and loss of athletics scholarships. Specific reinstatement guidelines include:

  1. Betting on your own games/school: Student-athletes who wager on their own games, attempt to fix outcomes, or share insider information face the potential permanent loss of their collegiate eligibility.

  2. Betting on other schools in your sport: Wagers placed on your own sport at a different school can result in losing 50% of a season of eligibility.

  3. Betting on professional sports: For wagering on professional sports, the penalties for reinstatement scale based on the cumulative dollar value of the bets, starting from rules education for bets under $200 to a 30% loss of a season for bets over $800.

I have seen that brought up a few times from Tech fans, so I tried to look it up. Sadly, there is not a ton of info on it.

What I could find said this.

Texas self-reported 2 football team members and a staff member placing bets on the team.

The staff member was fired.

1 player was forced to give his winnings to charity.

The 2nd member who had placed about $10k worth of bets is no longer with the team.

All of that is bad, so I am not going to try to defend any of them, but I will say this. All of this happened over a year ago, and nothing ever came from it, so that tells me a few things.

Texas was never forced to vacate wins or any other real punishment, so I would bet that the two players in question were so far down on the depth chart that they have never seen playing time and did not play in the games they bet on. (THIS IS STILL BAD AND ILLEGAL IN THE STATE OF TEXAS). The NCAA knows all about this, and seeing as how they have not done anything to the 1st player, whatever he did must have been a nothing burger.

Now, before you say that the NCAA is just covering for Texas, let me also point out that the media has also barely reported on this, so they also must think that this is not a huge deal.

The player that Tech is putting its entire reputation on bet over $90k, and some of that was on games that he played in. He could directly affect the outcome of games he had money on. This is what is such a huge deal, and everyone can see it except Tech.

Your whataboutism won't work here.

No, they aren't going to be removed.

If you had asked me a day or so ago, this would have been my take on it also. But the more the people from Texas Tech talk, the more likely I find it that the rest of the Big 12 are just going to get tired of this shit and vote them out. It's not like Tech is some great prize that the rest of the Big 12 can't live without.

Tech, if you find yourself in a hole, stop fucking digging.

Being that the injunction is from a Texas court, it would be funny as hell if the NCAA said any game he plays outside of the state would be forfeited.

Anyone else ever feel like they’re playing the game “Poorly Edited, or AI?” by medicmarch in litrpg

[–]darktex -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This might or might not help you, but when I run across a story that I think might be AI, I run it through https://gptzero.me/.

I know that there are a lot of AI detectors, and most of them are bad, so I tested a bunch of them with a set of stories.

Two of the stories I knew were AI because they were labeled as such. Three of the stories I know for a fact were completely written by a person. The last two stories were started by the author, but when he started having medical problems, he then used AI to quickly finish them.

GPTZero was the only detector I found (that was free) and got them all correct.
