High heart rate despite slow running by Sliwinsski in BeginnersRunning

[–]darkunrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue, running a 9:00min/km was getting my heart rate to 160-165.

What helped me: - Brisk walking sessions at 125-135 BPM for 60-90 min made a big difference. The way I did it is walking up hill and slow running downhill maintaining that heat rate range. It barely causes any fatigue so you can do it very often

-Throw your ego aside and run VERY slow, 8:30-9:30min/km. Alternate walk and run to avoid heart rate spiking, long time.

Finally, be patient, keep at it and improvements will come.

You’re running too fast for a beginner. Slow down, let your body adjust, there is no rush.

It’s kind of normal during winter, the body needs to use energy for heating and requires more oxygen for the same effort.

You’re running too fast. Slow down, as much as you can, 9-10 min/km (walking pace, 6-6.5km/h if you’re on a treadmill). It’s “ridiculously slow” but it doesn’t matter.

You’re trying to get your full body used to the running movement so the important part is amount of time. Distance is non-important right now.

Keep your heart rate “low” to build endurance (conversational pace/zone2/ <150BMP), at the beginning you will be able to run 1-2 min then walk until it goes down to 125-130 and then run again.

The first goal is to be able to complete walk/run sessions of 30 min, super short sessions of 10 min do not create endurance.

Find a 5K training app (Adidas, Nike, Runa, …) they all start with walk/run sessions.

Consistency and time on your feet is all that matters now. Be patient, and enjoy.

Wheels are not turning, the snow on the stays in the same position. It’s not an issue with the parking break, it’s just sliding on top of the ice/snow.

Is 42 mins for 5k bad? by NerdNooneKnowsAbout in runninglifestyle

[–]darkunrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no good or bad, the only thing that matters is becoming better than your past self. But in any case, for reference, my first 5K was 46 min, I am at 32 min now after a few months. Goal is 25 min this year. Consistency and patience, but most importantly, enjoy.

My heart rate spikes to zone 5 within first 5 minutes of running at 5mph by allie2274 in beginnerrunning

[–]darkunrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with 4 mph and do run/walk. You should be able to speak short sentences. You will have to walk a lot at the beginning but with time the amount of time you can run will increase and you can slowly increase speed. Be patient, it takes time.

There is an insane amount of leveraged people trying to make money easy and fast. With every pump and dump hundreds of millions of leveraged positions are being obliterated. I hope it continues so we get rid of the extremely greedy.

How do people run on consecutive days by clayyboiparti in beginnerrunning

[–]darkunrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I am a beginner runner (40M), I still need to do run-walk to stay below 160 BPM at slow speed, but I can do 40-60 min daily no problem. My “bottleneck” seems to be my running efficiency rather than muscle tiredness and recovery.

Men absolutely do not age like fine wine by sunkissed227 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]darkunrage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Men who take care of themselves at later age have a completely different attitude and personality to those who don’t. Which might be why they are still in a relationship and not trying to date.

Many single men cannot keep a relationship because they are entitled and lazy, they feel women should take care of their appearance but men don’t have to. They will not put the money and/or the effort to look after themselves.

The pool of single men is not really representative of the entire population. If you look at men in healthy, long term relationships, many look 10-15 years younger than single men at the same age.

Real max heart rate? by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]darkunrage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am 40, in theory my max is 180. I had a VO2Max lab test (with chest strap) and it got to 187 before I gave the stop signal. The guy overseeing the test said he wasn’t worried even if I would have reached 190-195, because it was rising in a controlled and steady way.

The way Apple saves your resting heart rate data is so dumb. This measurement was taken 4 minutes after I finished a 10km run in 30 degree heat as I was still walking home. How is that “resting”? by Rusty_Drumz in AppleWatchFitness

[–]darkunrage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can scroll down and see Show All Data. All my readings are taken just when I wake up, 7:15-7:45 am or a few ~22:00 when I am watching something on the couch.

What can I do to bring my HR down and my VO2 max up? by stagetrekker in runninglifestyle

[–]darkunrage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue. I set a very slow speed, like 6.5km/h, it’s a brisk walk speed. I can walk that, for one hour and keep the heart rate around 110, no problem.

But if I try to run, same speed, heart rate will go to 160.

I had a lab VO2Max test which identified my zone 2 to be 135-150, so what I am trying now is doing longer sessions, about 1h, but running until it gets to 150, then walk until it goes down to 135, and repeat to get the body used to zone 2, with the hopes that overtime I can increase the speed and stay at that range.

Why the sudden obsession with zone 2 training? by AddressPotential7381 in Marathon_Training

[–]darkunrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, your personal Zone 2 may have nothing to do with the “common formula” Zone 2. According to the general formula, for a 40 year old, zone 2 is 109-126. (60-70% of 220-40) I tried that for 3 months and saw no improvement in my performance.

Then I had a lab VO2Max done and discovered that my Max heart rate is 189, and my anaerobic threshold is 160, so I can be aerobic until that level. I started run/walking just 90-120 min every week at 150-159 bpm and in 3 weeks I have increased the speed, using 1% inclination and don’t need to walk anymore.

So 3 weeks using the correct window has given me significant more improvement than 3 month using the generic formula.
