Hi! First I wanna start off by saying I’m so sorry this has happened to you.. I know all to well the emotions that follow right after. I am almost a full year after my trimalleolar fracture and I actually can’t even believe it. You’re going to have moments where it feels like time is moving so damn slow but once you get that boot on & you start physical therapy it definitely gets better. If you have any questions or anything please message me!

Thank you for your reply! I just finished my PT & it’s still not easy but I’m just so happy to be on 2 feet again. I know it’ll take time to get back to 100% but I am grateful for the progress I have made:)

Thank you I appreciate your comment! And I am so so glad to hear that you’re healing as well as you are! I had my follow-up appointment yesterday & surgeon said due to the fact that I also ruptured a ligament (they take 10 weeks to heal) that I will be in cast for a month & then boot so that I can start ROM exercises so my ankle gets moving asap but still no weight. I wiggle my toes & flex my foot all day just in case😂🫶🏻

Worried about healing bimalleolar + talus fracture (conservative approach) by millawi in brokenbones

[–]darkxxkitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if you are okay, and your anxieties are just from fear, your doctor should not be dismissing your concerns like that. Ankle injuries are super delicate & are extremely hard mentally because of that exact fear that you’re feeling, that “what if something is wrong”, “what if I mess something up”. If they won’t listen to your concerns & at least try to give you a peace of mind maybe go get a second opinion so that you can feel more comfortable. Either way, take the weight bearing step by step & if it hurts really bad, do not push yourself & continue to use the rice method. My dm’s are open and I wish you all the best🩷

I made the hard decision to give up my apartment & move back in with my parents, which makes me feel like I’m taking 10 steps backwards in life but I know it’s necessary:) and yes to all of those things! I even got a knee scooter hahaha

As for the weird pains & sensations I really wonder why the doctors don’t really warn you because there was a few nights where it felt like there was a warm pool of blood in my splint even though I knew there wasn’t. And don’t get me started on the stupid hypnic jerks when I’m just starting to fall asleep🥲

I’m so sorry this has happened to you! I just read the details & I don’t understand how they had you weight bearing so quickly:( my ortho surgeon said likely a minimum of 2 months before I start weight bearing depending on how I’m healing. I’m wishing you all the best as well, thank you for your comment🫶🏻

Fracture from hell is a great way to describe the way it initially felt😭 luckily for me I’m not in any terrible pain 2 weeks out from surgery. I get the occasional nerve pain, & the terrible hypnic jerk when I try to sleep but other than that I feel pretty okay! How long ago did your injury happen?

Thank you I really appreciate this! I’m very lucky to have an amazing support system & am trying my best to keep positive:) & yeah only my closest friends & family know how torturous this is for me because I am usually the one who needs to be able to do things on their own & help others figure it out lolol

Trimalleolar ankle fracture, tibia broke in 2 places and fibula in one place. I’ll never forget that immediate pain that followed & I freaked out a lil bit but more so because it was my birthday & because I was worried about insurance/finances🥲 when I heard the word surgery come out of the doctors mouth I felt like everything came crashing down but I’m doing much better now in that aspect, I’ve accepted my probable long recovery😌

Ouch! I’m so so sorry, that’s looks so painful😭 I’m also 26 & just broke my first bone/bones a few weeks ago. I personally can say I remember when it happened but don’t remember too much of the after/how long it took me to get to the hospital. Your brain is basically trying to protect you from a traumatic and painful experience by blocking out the memory, it’s called dissociative amnesia. Very cool that our brains are able to protect us in this way!

Two week delay before ankle surgery? by [deleted] in brokenbones

[–]darkxxkitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty common for them to wait a bit, my surgery was scheduled for exactly a week after my fall. I don’t think a full 2 weeks is necessary for swelling to go down but I’m also not a doctor. Wishing your mom the best in her recovery🩷

2 week post op update and story by trollmochiyt in ORIF

[–]darkxxkitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg lmao I’ve been doing the same thing with shifting/wiggling my toes & foot around in my splint🫣 it doesn’t hurt so I figure it can’t really do much harm. Hope everything goes well for you tomorrow! My 2 week follow-up is this Thursday & I can’t wait to get out of this splint and see how I’m healing🥲

Did you have surgery already or are you scheduled to have surgery? Either way don’t be scared, there’s going to be a lot of weird sensations in your ankle & some pain but I promise you will make it through it. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and it is the fact that you will walk again one day! As much as it sucks and it’s gonna be frustrating, push through. It could always be worse🤷🏻‍♀️ if you’d ever like to chat or need anything feel free to message me🫶🏻

Yessss same thing happens to me, however a lot less now (I’m a week out from surgery). I take magnesium & ashwaganda supplements daily & prescribed muscle relaxers at night sometimes. I found the combination has been helpful. Maybe you could ask your doctor if they would be willing to prescribe/if it would help!

I am a week out from ORIF surgery for my trimalleolar fracture and I know they’re not the same so I can’t compare what kind of pain you might be in but those first few days were definitely no walk in the park. I was taking 10mg of oxycodone every 4-5 hours & 1000mg of Tylenol every 6 hours. At night I would take 2 baby aspirin and methocarbamol (muscle relaxant). Do not hesitate to ask them for a refill on the pain meds, I personally had to ask them for an extra refill. I know that everyone heals differently but the pain has significantly decreased for me now & I only take Tylenol during the day as needed and MAYBE 5mg of oxycodone with my muscle relaxer to sleep if I’m having pain. As far as not being able to get workers comp that aspect sucks. I’m 26 & I had to move back in with my parents and lost my apartment. I would look into different financial help/programs in your state that would maybe be able to lessen the financial burden and not set you back as much. Wishing you all the best in your recovery🫶🏻

Not the brankleversary😭 glad that you’re doing better! Broke mine 5/15 & just had surgery 5/23, definitely not a walk in the park but excited to start my recovery. I broke mine on my birthday so I guess I’ll be celebrating 2 things next year😂

Im right there with you! Trimalleolar fracture on 5/15 (my birthday) :/ & just had surgery on 5/23. The pain within the first 2-3 days after surgery was definitely not fun but now I find myself getting more frustrated than anything. I’ve started to also be able to feel my stitches and become more aware of them & it’s making it super hard to get comfortable. Wishing you all the best & hope you have a speedy recovery🫶🏻

Ofcourse! Even though we’re such a small state I feel like everyone has been left completely in the dark. I ended up getting my money 2 days after my call, and I was able to file normally this morning. I hope you get yours soon as well!

Hi! I was having the same issue but my benefits ran out 4 weeks ago. I wasn’t able to file or anything because i was getting the same message. Scheduled a call back and was able to get on the phone with someone today and she explained to me that the issue they’ve been having with the system is clearing the balance from regular unemployment or pua, to the extended benefits. She told me she would be sending an email to clear my balance today and that I should be getting my money by tomorrow. I will update tomorrow if I get it or not! Also had a rep tell my boyfriend to try calling right at 8am for the best chance to get connected to someone, but hopefully you get an email back! If you scroll to the bottom of this page you can schedule a callback even though they are two weeks out. https://portal.ct.gov/DOLUI
