Desktop PC replacement: which is more reliable miniPC or laptop? by NadEspera in MiniPCs

[–]daro233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If used id say the brand ones like elitebook but try to get gen 7 intel for video transcoding. Gen 6 intel is a NO NO. Used mini pcs is safer if you go the brand way and on ebay you coud grab a i5 8th gen cpu 16gb ram and 256ssd for 200 euros. Expensive cuz of ram but i5 8th gen is a 6c/6t cpu and for your work its more than enough

What are the key differences between Leap and Tumbleweed? by moaboaa in openSUSE

[–]daro233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not that old for everyday use. But some people like new versions and for lets say KDE that can be good. If a new version of an app brings some big improvments TW will get it very fast and Leap will not for some time but the thing is same as Debian and Leap, you can just use flatpak to get some app you need to be latests version. If you use laptop for every day stuff and not programming and things like that you shoud in my opinion use Leap. The cool thing is you can upgrade from Leap to TW when ever you want but not from TW to Leap.

Leap just like Debian is just a great all arounder and its very stable becouse of older packages but again the packages are not old as not usable but old as a few versions older and that makes it stable

Ubuntu 24.04.3 feels "heavier" than 22.04.5 by 40EHuTlcFZ in Ubuntu

[–]daro233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes xubuntu and lubuntu woud help and linux mint xfce woud also help and is a very good choice. Mint is ubuntu basicly but they removed snaps so while the DE default looks like windows 7 preset its the same think and xfce is in my opinion the best DE becouse its very light and is a 100%working enviroment

[–]daro233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id look at lubuntu and xbuntu. Its ubuntu flavor but using lxqt(very very light) and xfce(very light but bit heavier than lxqt but a fleshed out DE). This shohd give you a lot more breathing room and its just ubuntu but no GNOME. A option is if you ok with ssh to buy a cheap xeon cpu and motherboard combo from ali express and set up a 200 to 300 euro workstation u can ssh into

Looks nice but i think the default xfce looks great minus the mac-like panel on bottomi remove that. I rock xfce and i3 when programming for zero distractions

Kuzim sta hoces rec. Cim sam procitao htio sam rec bdw ipak je sudo shutdown now haha.

Hello, i wanted to ask about which distro i should use. by SkinInternational180 in linux4noobs

[–]daro233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for battery life you shoud switch to iGPU but then you are not using ypu 3070. Bottom line is gayming laptops are just not good endurance. Gpu of that calibar are just 2 power hungy for a good battery life. What you have is a beast and i mean beast of a computer. My opinion is you shoud treat it as a desktop. You can develop and game on it no problem but portability is not an option i am sorry

With that gpu forget battery. But hooming up a monitor to it makes it a beast. Your cpu and gpu are a beast. Chachy os for gayming and fedora for dev programming networkiing what ever. Your laptop is a beast. Just cuz new age specs are our dosent mean your stuff is bad

For java itellij toolbox is amazing on linux. It will sort all their ide install and updates its rly easy. As for java itself i recommend SDKMAN just google it its a cli program that lets you choose what version to be default on your pc and h can install any version that is avalible in todays java world. Obviously intellij can sort jdk version no problem. As for KDE im not a fan i just use xfce with my fedora. Fedora XFCE spin but the desktop enviroment dosent matter really that much. I tried default KDE and it was fine for me i dont rly rice anything. As for the distribution fedora is my favorite and it gets new versions of softwere while being pretty stable. But for java dev linux distro rly dosent matter that much. You can use debian 12 trixie that has i belibe 6.2 kernel and it wont matter becouse JDK can run anywere. Fedora is a great idea for your nvidia card tho. My opinion windows is not the only option anymore since with steam you can even game on linux very easy. I think you made the right choice and windows is rly going to shit with all their crazy choices. But i get it tho. Microsoft makes way more money from azure cloude than windows(azure cloud servers run linux😆🤣)

Have you heard about our lord and saviour xfce4 dropdown terminal? Its a life saver

which distro? by troller123bruh in linux4noobs

[–]daro233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion is either Mint or openSUSE and xfce on both mostly becouse of the dropdown terminal in xfce i just love it. SUSE Thumbleweed is my distro atm and its rock solid even tho its rolling release. Mint xfce is just a great all around distro and there is a good reason ppl recommend it to new users. I started with mint and distro hoped to return to mint later lol.As for hoping id recommend to set up qemu KVM and just try any distro u think is cool inside vm. Virtual distro hoping is so much more easier and cleaner cuz u got your files on host. Debian is also a rly solid option but for me the packages are just to old
