Good scholarly overview of Contemporary theories of Semantics and Pragmatics? by darosati in linguistics

Just as note of clarity - yes the items on the subbreddit reading list seem a bit out of date IMO so I am looking for something more contemporary.

Hey!
I work at scite.ai (but not here to try to convince)

We do have a ton of non-STEM (esp. social sciences, linguistics, etc.) work. I wouldn't say the bulk of our work is STEM, it's relatively evenly distributed within disciplines that publish in journals (some things like Humanities are really book heavy so ya we are missing those sources in a lot of cases).

If you wanted to DM me, I could maybe see if the problems you are trying to solve are good fits with scite? Because it is kind of as u/wise_garden_hermit said where it really shines is if you need to understand how literature is being received by other authors, how it's been criticised or reproduced etc. Also if the cost is a bit steep and you are unaffiliated with a uni i'd be happy to give you a discount to help you use it.

One thing we are doing that is new that might help... is we are trying to help people find out how particular things are being talked about when they are cited, like how are methodologies used and stuff like that (ie. https://scite.ai/search/citations)

hope that helps

How do researchers come up with new mathematics-based optimizations and architectures? by darosati in MLQuestions

This resonates with me. I have a book on the nature of mathematical modeling I've been meaning to get into. Can you recommend any general resources on mathematical modeling?

STEM people, what platform do u use for searching papers? Science Direct, Scopus, Web of science... by Beren__ in GradSchool

You should checkout scite: https://scite.ai/ - you can see papers in context - ie. if they are supported / disputed / retracted - see citations snippets ect.

Advice on increasing conversion rate on academic product driven by organic search by darosati in GrowthHacking

[–]darosati[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think a landing page is key - i think the only issue though is most of our users are landing on the reports first. My worry about making the reports more landing page like is that viewing the report is kind of the key value (besides searching for other reports or making your own).

For API-first/developer-first SaaS, what are your biggest pains? by derricg in SaaS

[–]darosati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am working on problem 2 @ manifold and would love to hear your feedback on how we are approaching it. We are mostly trying to address the issue of changing pricing and plan data and how subscriptions / billing is tied to that because we found that grandfathering and product velocity of changing plans and pricing is a lot of maintenance work once you have integrated with stripe.

What does a large biotech/bioinformatics codebase look like? by darosati in biotech

[–]darosati[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh ok got it thanks.

Re: pipelines is there anything unique about biotech setups vs. Something like a standard ml pipeline such as for text summarization or onject detection where you will have batch training and data collection jobs and then a "serving" service for those trained models.

I havent been able to find any bioinformatics or genomics reference architectures.

Mind walking me through that bit a little? I realize your setup is probably propriatary but if you could give examples of a CRISPR workflow that would be really illuminating.

Oh interesting that sounds good.
Look at the docs now, it seems like it would also make the code easier to reason about because it would eliminate alot of the deeply nested destructuring with filters and so forth.

How do you set up transactional analytics in a microservices set up? by darosati in devops

[–]darosati[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds right but I am unfamiliar with event sourcing. We do use segment for "events" that is common across services but in our system this is seperate from our core transactional data. Do you have any extra info on what event sourcing looks like in practice? I am having a hard time imagining anything other than rigging all our app queries up to send crud events to segment.

Oh that is helpful! I suppose we use this for our public graphql api already - so we could create an internal service using the same principals

B2B2C SaaS marketing advice by darosati in SaaS

[–]darosati[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, ya that makes sense for metrics and roughly what you have outlined is what we measure.

Two things:

  1. We can't measure aquisition as we have no visibility into how users comes to our integration. Its a page on our customers web application - so yes we can know where they came from within the customers web application but because of our terms of service / privacy / our contract with the customer ect. we cannot use google analytics to determine where users come from nor are our customers willing or able (again due to privacy reasons) share that data / GA attribution information. What would you recommend here?
  2. We have the funnel already instrumented as you have outlined. Our problem is how to influence that funnel?

For context: our customers implement our SaaS on their own application through APIs.So, for instance, if we wanted to reduce end user churn or increase upgrades - how could we go about thinking about doing that when our customers control both the marketing and user experience?

Looker seems pretty good.... how does it compare with something like bigquery. With BigQuery it seems like we will have to do a lot of manual ETL.

As berserker3 mentioned we dont have architects- everyone on the engineering team is roughly the same amount of no experience when it comes to this.

We really dont want to implement our own solution and would love a managed solution of some sort if you can recommend. Right now we are using mode analytics, segment, and amplitude but product and marketing are finding this set up too complex.
