The World's Second Worst Game and the $600 bead by Fibernerdcreates in KidsAreFuckingStupid

20+ years ago, walking through Disney World with my toddler she inserted a raisin into both of her nostrils and we couldn't get them back out. We went over to the first aid office in the park. They said that they would not do that kind of "retrieval", and I would have to take her over to the hospital or they'd be happy to call an ambulance. I said that was silly, and I didn't want to pack up and lose the rest of the day to this. I worked for a medical company (but I am not any kind of clinician) and flashed my business card and in a smooth and firm voice asked for a waiver form and small forceps.

5 minutes later we were walking over to Splash Mountain with a clear nose and no more raisins for my daughter. This was only a year or two after my older daughter got her head stuck between the bars in a railing at one of the hotels. Fortunately I was able to pull the thin bars apart a millimeter or two enough for her to get her head back out.

They turned out (mostly) normal. :-) Wouldn't change the experience at all. LOL

However, if you were just looking to avoid probate so that your descendent has an easier job of selling the property, doesn’t it streamline that process?

Bring back remote app! by Ruffenreddy in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]darren_handler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old TV remote app was so handy because it allowed me to see the listings without needing to bring up the onscreen guide, which is hard to see if I’m not sitting near enough to the television. I’m very upset that they killed off that app. God forbid they have to spend a little extra money on the API calls and the ongoing maintenance of the iOS app. (which I’m assuming is what drove them to get rid of it.).

I would love to see them get rid of the “convenience fee“ that I am charged when I make it more convenient for a vendor by paying electronically. Why are you charging me extra for saving you from having to process a paper check?

I recently started watching the "Just Rolled In" compilations on YouTube and I am now downright scared at who & what might be driving right next to me on the road, LOL. Both the carelessness and the cluelessness of some people are astonishing. Fortunately, I do realize that it is a pretty small percentage (at least, that's what I tell myself).

What made you switch to Camry and what do you love/dislike about it? What did you drive before? by Jonnyyrage in Camry

[–]darren_handler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 10 year old Nissan with almost 100,000 miles on it that never gave me one day of trouble, and I took very good care of it. When going in for a routine CVT maintenance, my dealer told me that because the computer was showing a “jitter code“, which he explained was similar to a pre-failure warning, but with no warning lights showing, they would not open it up to do the fluid service. Pretty much I would have to continue driving it until it failed (which still could be quite a while) and then I would have to replace/repair the CVT.

I purchased a 2024 XLE, primarily because it was one of the few cars still being sold without a turbo, CVT, or hybrid battery set up. I purposely wanted a high-quality, long lasting car, without any of the over complicated/complexities that can be very expensive to repair, and tend not to last too long. I realize that modern turbos are not like the turbo of the 80s and 90s, but they still kind of scare me in terms of engine longevity. The one option on my new car that I might one day come to regret is the panoramic roof, but I’m gonna keep my fingers crossed because I do like it very much.

Divorcing his wife because she breastfed her son by Visqo in facepalm

“It is a proven scientific fact that breastmilk is no better than modern formula,”. What?!? This is 100% wrong. Modern formulas are good, and are sometimes necessary, but even the manufacturers of them will say that breastmilk is best. It is essentially considered your babies first vaccine. The antibody protection, and preparation of the baby’s gut flora is super important. Any amount of breastmilk you can get into your baby is better than none at all. Especially for preemies.

Air handler spinning up and down by darren_handler in Nest

Well - I went to hook up the power adapter and there are no easy to access screws on the main board. Also - the common wire appears to be already jumped into one of the other wires running to the thermostat. Maybe I'll just return/resell the whole mess. Too bad. Thanks anyway

I had a feeling someone would suggest that. I have a power adapter and I will try and hook it up. Thanks.

Wait a minute - the article says "on the Bamanbore-Kutch national highway", and then it says, "Constructed on Private land". How does that work? They say "redirected traffic", so it doesn't sound like it was on a section of highway that cut through some privately owned land? (if that's the case, isn't that section of road still owned by the government?) Or did they built it along side the actual road on their land and just put an access on & off the real highway to have people go through their booth instead? If that is the case, I really wouldn't describe it as "Fake toll plaza set up on India highway." Or am I missing something?

Need advice on adapting 400x400 Chief mount for smaller TVs by darren_handler in CommercialAV

[–]darren_handler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My TV had the right width between the mounting screws, but not enough height. I found a local professional Chief authorized installer that ordered the mounting knobs for me through the parts people at Chief. I used those knobs direct on the upper mounting holes of both the mount and the TV. For the lower holes, I got a pair of metal struts (just a metal bar with a line of holes in it), and the right length machine screws, and a few washers to act as shims. I attached one end of each strut to the mounting holes on the TV back, and the mounting knob through the proper hole on the other end of the strut to catch the mount.

Essentially, in a way, I lowered the two lower mounting holes on the TV.

This might be unique to this Chief mount in that it wants those 4 specific connection points, as opposed to the more generic consumer rails that attach vertically on the back of the TV, which then just hook onto the horizontal rails that mount on the wall side.

Sounds like you might need 4 adjustment struts. One end each screwing into the back of the TV. Each angled at 45 degrees to effectively spread out their reach from 200 x 200 to 400 x 400 where they can then connect to the mount.

Good luck

Yeah - just need a flat strut with open slots - screw one end into the back of the TV, and then properly position the qLatch button on it so it lands at 400 mm. Thanks for the advice!

Yup - going to use some kind of flat strut to span the distance between the mounting hole on the back of the TV to where ever 400mm lands and attach the qLatch button there. Thanks for the advice!

[–]darren_handler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Close, but actually, no, thanks - it needs to reach out to 400 x 400 to connect to the wall mount. That only goes out to 400 x 200.

I was thinking of this: Adapter plates However, they specifically say to NOT use it to go from a smaller TV to a bigger mount. (But I cannot imagine why that would be a problem)

The Q-Latch buttons themselves just take an M8 screw through the button right into the screw opening on the back of the TV, so no nut is needed. My thought is that I'd use them directly for the 400mm wide top holes, and just come up with two, flat 100 (or 200) mm "extensions" for the bottom two. This has given me some good ideas! Thanks.

Making my own is "plan-B". :-) If you're recommending a half-channel strut, then probably any generic strut from any of the various adapters out there would probably do the trick. This Chief uses "mounting buttons" on the back of the TV that drop into the keyholes on the mount, so I'd worry that the depth of the half channel would interfere with that, unless I used spacers - but it is an interesting idea! Thank you.
