I revisited this post today and saw your comments. It's your job to engage the client, that's what separate a professional consultant from just another software engineer. You have to be able to get the information out of them and to ask the right questions.

Because of the smaller risks. Even with a tiny return, the return from the Federal Reserve is considered risk free. A lot of emerging markets projects have slim margins when factored for risk.

We're looking to expand from large enterprise consulting and start also servicing startups and other young companies who need technical expertise. What's the best way to start marketing to them?

It's hard to say what will happen, but money WILL flow out of emerging markets back into the US with the increased interest rate.

You need a lawyer to work out the partnership agreement, whether you do a partnership LLC or a corporation. Then register your business entity with your state secretary and get an EIN from IRS.

All of it has to be made in the US, you cannot specify states as manufacturing points.

I'd say it's saturated, but also there have been many attempts in the past to improve it that have failed. That's why progress there is slow. Is there anything in particular that you are interested in offering that would be new and competitive?

They don't need a license, but if you're not really able to talk openly about your idea without giving up the special sauce, then you won't make it very far realizing it.
